Introduction

This guide describes the CRD270 0-42 00E (fou r-sl ot Ethern et cradle) set up a nd us e. The c radl e i s us ed w ith up to fo ur Symbol SPT 1700/SPT 1800 Series and/or PPT 2700/PPT 2800 Series terminals (simultaneously). Cradle features include:
provides terminal operating power
provides Ethernet network data communic ation between the terminal (up to four terminals) and a host computer
synchronizes information between the terminal and a host PC (with customized or third party software, it can also be used to synchronize the terminal with corporate databases)
simultaneously re-charges up to four terminals
up to four CRD2700-4000S or CRD1700-4000S serial cradles may be daisy-ch ained w ith this unit, providing a tot al of 20 slots available for host communications.
The cradle requires a 8VDC power supply, and provides 8VDC power to an inserted SPT 1700/SPT 1800 Series and/or PPT 2700/PPT 2800 Series terminals.
Note: Both the Palm HotSync Manager software and the
ActiveSync software will only support one Sync at a time between a single terminal and a single PC. If the application requires multiple devices to communicate simultaneous ly with a single host, t hen synchronization server software such as Scout MTS is required. This software may be purchased from Symbol.

Power and Ethernet Connections

Note: Use only a Symbol-approved power supply 50-14000-
109, output rated 8VDC and minimum 5A. The power supply is certified to EN60950 with SELV outputs.
To connect power and ethernet to the cradle:
1. Connect the power supply cable plug to the Power Port (labeled DC PWR) on the back of the cradle, (see Rear Vi ew, Parts on page 4).
2. Connect one end of a standard 10 Base-T network cable to the connector labelled Host on the back of the CRD27004200E (see Rear View, Parts on page 4). Co nnect the other end of the cable to the subnet hub/switch.
3. Connect the Power Supply AC plug to a standard electrical outlet.
Note: International customers must use a separate AC line
cord appropriate for their respective country.
4. The LED on each slot b links red the n green whil e the cr adle powers up. All LEDs flash green while the cradle attempts to obtain its IP address from the DHCP server. If the cradle is successful, the LEDs turn of f. If the cradle is una ble to obtain its IP address, the LEDs flash red, and the cradle retries in 10 minutes. See LED Indicators on page 8 for other indications.

WARNING
Each cradle must have its own power supply. Any other method of power hookup is unsafe.
Interconnecting cradles:
1. Connect the power supply to the second 4-slot cradle as described , see Power and Ethernet Connections on page 5.
Note: The 8V 5A power supply must be us ed on each seria l
cradle that is connected to an Ethernet cradle.
2. Plug one end of the cradle Interconnection Cable into the Expansion Connec tor modular jack labe led EXP on the back of the first cradle.

3. Plug the remaining end of the cradle Interconnection Cable into the modular j ack labeled Host on the back of t he second serial cradle.
4. Repeat the steps fo r any additional 4-slot s erial cradles to be connected.
Note: Interconnecting cradles only works with the
CRD 2x00-4000S and CRD1700-4000S 4-Slot Serial Cradles. It does not work with the single-slot cradle.

Terminal Battery Charging

1. Ensure the cradle is connected to a power source. See Power and Ethernet Connections on page 5.
2. Insert the terminal into the cradle. The terminal starts to charge automatically.
All of the CRD2700-4200E’s four slots can be used to simultaneously recharge the batteri es on four terminals . T o charge the battery, insert the terminal(s) in the slot(s) and the battery begins to recharge. Recharge time is approximately 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. After charg ing, remove the ter minal from the cradle and power it on. The battery charge indicator should appear to be full.
