Requirements
• PC running Windows Vista or later.
• USB A to B cable (USB printer cable).
• Internet connection or pre-downloaded copy of the Swisson Firmware Update Tool installer.
Installing the Firmware Update Tool
After downloading the installer of the Swisson Firmware Update Tool from the product’s web page on the Swisson
website, execute the installer and follow the instructions. Make sure that both, the driver and the Firmware Update
Tool are selected when the installer asks you to select the components to install. The Firmware Update Tool on the
product’s web page contains the latest firmware for the XPD-28.
Updating the Firmware
Remove the mains supply from your XPD-28 shortly, then keep [Cancel] pressed when reconnecting the XPD-28 to
the mains. Once the XPD-28 is powered, keep [Cancel] pressed for about a second. This interrupts the boot process,
and the message “BOOTING INTERRUPTED” is displayed on the screen of the device.
Connect the XPD-28 to your computer using a USB A to B cable. Launch the Swisson Firmware Update Tool. If the
drop-down box next to the “Discover Devices” button is empty, hit the “Discover Devices” button. Use the drop-
down box next to the “Discover Devices” button to select your XPD-28. Then press the “Update Firmware” button
and wait for the firmware update to complete.
Using an Alternative Firmware
If you wish to install a different firmware image than the one included with the Swisson Firmware Update Tool, you
may do so by clicking “alternative”. This is the red, underlined text which is also shown in the screenshot below.
Now you may click the “Load Update File” button and select the firmware image that you would like to install on
your XPD-28. The firmware update image is a file ending in “.sw2”.

Then use the “Update Firmware” button to proceed with the firmware update.
