SWAN 250 TRANCEIVER
THE SWAN 250
The Swan 250 is a 6 meter transceiver which was first introduced in the spring of 1965. With two 6146B tubes as the PA, this radio is rated at 240 watts PEP on SSB, 180 watts CW, and 75 watts on AM. Band coverage is 50 to 54 Mc, and the pi network coupling provides for a wide range of antenna impedances. The 250, which was later upgraded to the 250C in 1968, could be used as a base, mobile, or portable unit with the optional 117-XC matching AC supply with speaker, or the 14-117 12 volt DC adapter. A 500 kc crystal calibrator could have been purchased as a kit for $19.95 US, as was the the plug in VOX unit, the VX-1, for another $35.00 US. The original selling price of the 250 was shown as $325.00 US, with the 250C selling for $420.00 US. The 250C had the following improvements; Selectible USB / LSB, "S" meter, built-in 250 Kc crystal calibrator and improved frequency readout. You can use the internal VFO, or have split frequency operation with the optional 210 remote VFO. A review of the 250 appears in the July 1967 issue of CQ.
