This lift was designed to be used with a remote control unit; either automatically or manually controlled and will function without any special training in the Show position. The lift is supplied with a key switch that can be placed in the Show, Auto, or Off position for normal operation. The Service position must be used only by trained technical personnel when the lift is lowered to the floor level for service or access. Normal safety requirements of handling heavy equipment must be followed.
REMOVE ALL OBSTRUCTIONS FROM THE LIFTS
PATH BEFORE LOWERING THE LIFT.
Page 5
1. PRELIMINARY INSTALLATION CHECKS:
§ The support structure should hold at least four (4) times the weight of the lift and projector
combined. Always follow the local building codes.
§ Required space, lift support, necessary cable (signal, control, and power), and Show position adjustment should be considered and/or installed prior to the lift installation.
§ Do not install the projector on the lift until the lift, hardware, and any other accessories have been properly installed and operational.
§ This lift has been factory adjusted with the steel cables tightly packed on the cable drum and leveled for precise tracking prior to being shipped from SVS Factory.
§ DO NOT remove the lifts shipping blocks until instructed to do so in Section 4-6.
§ SVS scissor lifts are shipped in a slight open position to prevent damage to the limit switches
and to maintain a tight cable pack on the drum. If physical height measurements are taken before the shipping blocks are removed from the lift, the measurements may not accurately reflect the actual lift height in the closed position.
§ All weight attached to the lift must be centered between the lifts cables. The balance point of the projector (also called center of gravity or lens face to base box center) should be placed inline with the cables (+/- 1-inch).
§ For ease of installation, lift can be hoisted into its ceiling location with block and tackle or a ratchet puller.
§ Clear ALL PERSON & OBSTRUCTIONS from the lifts path during operation. Keep fingers and other objects away from the scissors and other moving parts. Technical Personnel should always be present whenever the lift is in Service mode.
Page 6
2. CONSIDERATIONS FOR LIFT PLACEMENT:
Before beginning the installation, check the dimensions of the projector to be mounted against the available space within the lift. Be sure to include the lens and/or any accessories that may add to the overall dimensions of the projector. The Mini 7EX Series lift can handle projectors up to 32.5inches (82.5cm) wide. See Figure 1 below.
Figure 1 Mini 7EX-4 Front & Side Views
Preliminary measurements should also be made to layout the orientation of the projector to the screen and projector to lift. If the projector lens is offset from the center of the projector, the lift position may need to be offset accordingly to align the lift and projector with the center of the screen
3. LIFT SUPPORT STRUCTURE:
The Mini 7EX can be mounted from four ½inch threaded rods spaced at 34 ¾-inches Wide (880.3cm) by 23-inches (584cm) Deep. See Figure 2. The threaded rods must be supported by a rigid support structure and should not extend more than 2-feet (0.6m). If the length of the rods exceed 2-feet (0.6m) from the support structure to the lift’s top frame cross bracing should be installed between the rods to increase the stability of the installation. See Figure 3.
Figure 2
Page 7
Figure 3
If ceiling clearance allows, an “X-Y” or a cross-supporting structure is strongly suggested as shown in Figure 4a & Figure 4b. This will allow front-to-back or side-to-side adjustments to center the lift and projector to the screen.
Figure 4 Mounting Structure for Beam Ceiling
Page 8
Figure 4b Mounting Structure for Flat Ceiling
Important note for concrete ceiling installations: When attaching the lift to a flat ceiling, SVS
suggest two (2) pieces of P1000T Unistrut (approx. 10-feet (3.04m) long) to be installed on the ceiling first. Proper spacing between the 2 pieces will be base on the distance between the top four (4) mounting holes of the lift. See Figure 1.
You should use at least four (4) ½-inch bolts and anchors evenly spaced on each piece of P1000T Unistrut to distribute the weight of the Lift and supporting structure. Attach ½-inch threaded rods to the P1000T Unistrut using Unistrut P3010-1/2-inch channel nuts in the channel along with a locking washer and nut below the channel to lock the threaded rods into place.

IMPORTANT: IF AN ACCESSORY #2 PLENUM SHROUD OR ACCESSORY #12
DECORATIVE COVER ARE TO BE INSTALLED WITH THE MINI 7EX LIFT. PLEASE
READ THE ACCESSORY INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING.
THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE WILL NEED TO ALLOW ENOUGH SPACE TO INSTALL
THE MOUNTING HARDWARE FOR THE PLENUM SHROUD AND/OR DECORATIVE
COVER.
4. LIFT INSTALLATION:
a. Preparation:
1) The lift is shipped in a wood crate. Open crate by removing the hexnuts and Philip screws from the top lid.
2) Unbolt the lift from the bottom panel of the crate to remove the lift from the crate.
3) DO NOT remove the lifts shipping block until the lift is properly installed in the ceiling.
4) The installation instructions, warranty, and wall plate low voltage controller are located in the white box attached to the inside of the crate top.
b. Installing the lift in the ceiling:
1) Make sure that there is a top hexnut and a flat washer on each support structure threaded rod before the lift is mounted. See Figure 5.
2) Raise the lift into the ceiling and line-up the four (4) mounting holes of the lifts top frame to the four (4) ½-inch threaded rods of the support structure. Figure 5
3) Once the lifts top frame has been inserted, add a ½-inch hexnut to each threaded rod to secure the lift to the threaded rods. Always leave the top hexnut loose to allow adjustments until the lift is leveled.
4) Check that the lifts top frame is level front-to-back and side-to-side. Level the top frame by adjusting the bottom hexnuts.
5) Once the top frame is level, tighten the top hexnuts. Do not over tighten the hexnuts before the top frame is leveled as this could distort the top frame.
6) If the Accessory #4 or #5 Power Sensor is used, please refer to the Power Sensor instructions. Otherwise, plug the 12-pin connector of the Wall Plate Low Voltage Controller into the 12-pin socket on the lifts gray electrical box.
7) Make sure that the lifts path is clear of cables and obstructions. Plug the lift into AC power.
8) Before lowering the lift, you should have some weight attached to the bottom of the lift in order to keep the cables tight until the projector is mounted. Both steel cables are placed on the cable drum so that they start unwinding from the outside to the inside of the cable drum. The cables are vertical to the eye bolts on the lifts bottom frame in the closed position and slightly angled toward the outside of the cable drum the outside of the lift in the lowered position.
9) Remove the four (4) shipping blocks from the lift by lowering the lift slightly.
TO AVOID CABLE SPILLS:
§ Do not push the lifts bottom frame upwards once the lift has been installed.
§ Make sure that there are no obstructions in the lifts path. If the bottom frame is
lowered onto an obstruction the cable will slack and spill over the cable drum.

7. MOUNTING THE PROJECTOR
1) After checking the lift operation and all clearance, the projector can be installed. The projector can be mounted either inverted or non-inverted using the Accessory #13 Platform.
2) Mount the projector inverted to the lift using the Accessory #9 Projector Mount or equivalent. The #9 Projector Mount is the actual hardware that attaches the projector to the lift. The projector mount base box will need to be bolted to the lifts saddle (the “U” shaped cross member attached to the lifts bottom frame.) You may need to drill holes into the base box to mount it to the lift saddle. Mounting hardware was installed on the saddle at the SVS factory. See the SVS 7 & 12 Series Projector Mount Location drawing.
3) If the projector is not being inverted, it can be placed on a SVS Accessory #13 Platform. The Accessory #13 Platform is a metal shelf attached to the lift with threaded rods.
4) All weight attached to the lift must be centered between the steel lift cables. The balance point of the projector should be placed in line with the cables +/- 1-inch. The projector balance point is also called projector center of gravity or lens face to base box center.
8. CABLE MANAGEMENT
The SVS Mini 7EX Series Lift all feature cable retainers installed on the scissors extensions in the rear of the lift. These retainers are used to keep the projector cables securely clear of the lift during operation. It is not recommended that cables be attached to the lift scissors as they may be pinched when the lift raises and lowers. To keep projector cables clear of the scissors, please attach the projector cables as shown in Figure 8.
Page 13

9. SETTING THE SHOW POSITION:
The Show position is adjusted by loosening the thumbscrew on the Show Microswitch Bracket, located on the lifts top frame as shown in Figure 9.
1) In Service mode lower the lift to the desired Show position.
2) Loosen the thumbscrew and slide the Show Microswitch Bracket along the roller guide until the large retainer washer compresses the Show Microswitch. (You should hear a slight click when the microswitch is depressed.)
3) Make sure that the microswitch is not too close to the washer because the washer must by pass the microswitch when the lift lowers to Service position.
4) The Show Position is now set. Raise the lift back to the closed position, turn the key switch to “Show” and press the toggle switch down. The lift should lower to the Show position and stop. The Show position is adjustable with an accuracy of +/- 1/8inch.
Figure 9
MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENTS
Inspect the lift occasionally for any loose bolts, cables, or cable clamps. Check the steel lift cables for unusual wear or damage. The pillow block bearings are pre-lubricated. The motor does not require any attention. If the magnetic brake does not hold properly, it must be replaced immediately.
Level corrections are to be made (with projector mounted) after confirming that the steel lift cables are packed tightly and straight on the cable drum. All adjustments should be made with the projector lowered to the Show position. To adjust the lift, place a level across the front of the projector. Adjust the nuts on the bottom of the cable eyebolts for fine lift adjustments. After adjustments are complete, check all bolts and clamps for tightness.
Check the drum lock solenoid occasionally, ensure that the drum lock arm raises during down travel, at all other times is should stay down in a locked position. If the solenoid does not energize, drum lock the microswitch will not allow the motor to start in the down mode. Check the drum lock pawl located on the cable drum, it should move freely and drop when it reaches the top of the drum rotation avoiding contact with the drum lock arm. If the drum rotates too fast, the drum lock pawl will engage the drum lock arm and stop the lift.
Scissor bolts are adjusted for no slack, but not too tight. To adjust tighten to approximately 151 lbs torque, and then back off 1/8-inch. The bolts have nylon-locking nuts and should stay at this position.
