SVS Plasma One 4 Lift Installation InstructionsPage 4 of 16
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR INSTALLATION.
This Lift is designed to be used with a Wall Plate Controller, either automatically or manually controlled.
The Wall Plate Controller features a key switch which can be placed in the “ON” or “OFF” positions for
normal operation. The “Off” position disables the Lift. The “ON” position allows the lift to be lowered
and raised using the Up/Down toggle switch.
WARNING
To prevent personal injury and property damage when servicing any part of the Lift drive system
(electric motor/brake, drive chain/sprockets, steel lift cables, and/or drum lock assembly) the screen must
be removed and the Lift's boom supported by straps, chain, or cable to prevent it from lowering
unexpectedly while the drive system is being serviced.
IMPORTANT
Please read all Accessory Installation Instructions before beginning your installation. If an Accessory
PSS-1 Plenum Shroud is to be installed with the Lift. Please read the Accessory Installation Instructions
before beginning your installation. The Lift support structure will need to allow enough space to install
the mounting hardware for the Plenum Shroud.
TO AVOID CABLE SPILLS
•Do not push the lift boom upwards once the Lift has been installed.
•Make sure that there are no obstructions in the Lift's path. If the boom is lowered onto an
obstruction the cable will slack and spill over the cable drum.
4. PRELIMINARY INSTALLATION CHECKS
•SVS recommends that the Lift support structure holds at least four (4) times the weight of the Lift and
screen combined. The rear support structure should hold three (3) times this amount due to the up thrust
caused as the lift pivots down from the ceiling. The rear threaded rods should be reinforced
approximately 12-inches up from the lift to avoid buckling under the up thrust. Always follow your local building codes.
•Required space for the Lift, screen, and accessories should be considered prior to installation. Check for
obstructions that may prevent the Lift or accessories from being installed or operated.
•Plan for necessary Lift low voltage control cabling, screen audio/video/control cabling, and power
connections.
•Do not install the screen on the Lift until the Lift, hardware, and any accessories have been properly
installed and are operational.
•This Lift has been adjusted with cables tightly packed on the cable drum and leveled for precise tracking
prior to being shipped from the factory. Do not remove the lift's shipping blocks until instructed to do so in Section 7.
•All weight attached to the Lift must be centered on the lift's boom.
•As a reminder, clear all persons and obstructions from the Lift's path during its operation. Keep fingers
and other objects away all moving parts. Technical personnel should always be present when the Lift is
being serviced.

5. CONSIDERATIONS FOR LIFT PLACEMENT
•Vertical Clearance:
•Once the location of the Lift is determined, please verify that there is sufficient space above the
ceiling to accommodate the Lift, screen, and any accessories that you might be installing.
•Ensure that nothing will interfere with the Lift operation.
•The Lift needs a minimum clearance of 14-inches [35.6cm] of vertical height in the ceiling [the
Lift support structure and accessories not included. With this arrangement there will be 7-inches
[17.8cm] of clearance for the screen and screen mount. The PCC-2 Ceiling Closure adds 3-inches
[7.6cm] and the PPS-1 Plenum Shroud adds 2-inches [5cm] to the height of the application. See
Figure 2 below.
Figure 2. SVS Plasma One 4 Side View
(shown with screen and PCC-2 Ceiling Closure)
•Horizontal Clearance: Because the screen is stored horizontally, it may be necessary for the installer to
cut and re-support the main or load bearing beams. If so, please make sure that the ceiling will be
appropriately modified to meet installation requirements and that the modifications will maintain the
structural integrity of the ceiling. Always follow local and national codes in the modification of any
structure. Please keep in mind that the ceiling opening will vary with the size of the screen. See Figure 3
for horizontal layout and Figure 9 to calculate the horizontal space required for the screen and lift.

6. LIFT SUPPORTING STRUCTURE
•Top Mounting: The Plasma One 4 can be mounted from the top by using four 3/8” threaded rods spaced
at 12 3/8 -inches [31.4 cm] wide by 23-inches [58.4 cm] deep. See Figure 4. The threaded rod must be
supported by a rigid mount and should not exceed more than 12-inches [30.4 cm]from the supporting
structure without cross bracing between the rods. If clearance allows, a “X-Y” or cross-supporting grid
structure is strongly recommended as shown in Figure 5a & b. The “X-Y” structure allows the lift
position to be adjusted side-to-side and front-to-back.
Figure 4. SVS Plasma One Mounting Locations
•Side Mounting: The Plasma One 4 lift can be mounted from the sides by using the four (4) 3/8” - 16
bolts to attach the lift to the adjacent ceiling joist (or support structure). The lift top frame is designed to
fit within a standard 16-inch [40.6 cm] space between the floor joist. Spacers should be added to the side
of the lift top frame to avoid expanding the top frame when the bolts are tightened. The 14-inch outside
dimension of the lift top frame should always be maintained. See Figure 4.

Important
When attaching the Lift to a flat concrete ceiling, SVS suggest two (2) pieces of P1000T Unistrut (or
equivalent) approx. 10-feet (3.04 m) long, to be installed on the ceiling first. Proper spacing between the two
pieces will be based on the distance between the four (4) mounting holes located on the top of the Lift as shown
in Figure 4.
You should use at least four (4) 1/2” bolts and anchors evenly spaced on each piece of Unistrut to distribute the
weight of the supporting structure. Attach the two lower pieces of Unistrut to the upper two pieces of Unistrut
using 1/2” threaded rods to the Unistrut, using Unistrut P3010 1/2” channel nuts in the channel, along with a
locking washer and nut below the channel to lock into place.
IMPORTANT
If you are installing an PPS-1 Plenum Shroud with the Lift, please read the Accessory Installation
Instructions before beginning your installation. The Lift support structure will need to allow enough
space for the Plenum Shroud mounting hardware
7. LIFT INSTALLATION
a. Preparation:
•The Lift is shipped in a wooden crate in an inverted position.
•Do not remove the Lift from the crate until you are ready to install it.
•The Installation Instructions and Wall Plate Controller with control cable are located in a cardboard
box inside the crate.
•Unbolt the Lift from the bottom of the crate to remove the lift from the crate and turn the lift upright.
b. Top Mounting
•To prepare the ceiling opening for installing the Lift refer to the PCC-1/2 Ceiling Closure
Installation Instructions and Figure 9 to determine the size of the ceiling opening.
•Raise the Lift into the ceiling and line up the four (4) mounting holes in the Lift's top frame with the
3
/8-inch threaded rods of the supporting structure. Make sure that there is a top nut and a flat washer
on each threaded rod before the Lift is mounted. (Plenum Shrouds require additional hardware on the
threaded rods before the Lift.)
•Once the Lift's top frame has been inserted, add a hexnut to each threaded rod below the Lift frame.
Always leave the top nut loose to allow adjustments until the Lift is leveled.
•Level the Lift's top frame side-to-side and front-to-back using the lower hexnuts on the threaded
rods.
•Once the Lift is leveled, secure the Lift to the threaded rods by tightening the upper hexnuts. Do not
over tighten the fasteners as it could distort the Lifts top frame.
•Plug the 12-pin connector of the Wall Plate Controller into the 12-pin socket on the Lift's gray
electrical box mounted on the Lifts top frame. The Wall Plate Controller includes 75-feet of cable
and is shipped with the Lift. It is located in the cardboard box attached to the lid of the Lift's
shipping crate.
•Once the Lift is properly installed in the ceiling and leveled, you can remove the shipping blocks.
Remove the blocks by removing the screws and tie-raps holding them in place.
SVS Plasma One 4 Lift Installation InstructionsPage 9 of 16
c. Side Mounting
•The vertical placement of the lift must be very accurate when the lift is side mounted. Raise the lift into
the proper position.. The top of the lift should be 14-inches [35.5 cm]up from the ceiling without a
ceiling closure and 15-inches up from the ceiling with a ceiling closure.
•Make sure that the lift is in the proper position and level (side-to-side and front-to-back). Mark the four
(4) mounting hole locations (two (2) per side) onto the supporting structure. Remove the lift and drill
four (4) 3/8-inch holes.
•Important: Spacers should be inserted between the ceiling support structure and the lift top frame if the
gap between the support structure and the lifts top frame exceed 1/8-inch.
•Once the supporting structure is ready, raise the lift back up into the ceiling and secure each mounting
hole with a 3/8-inch-16 fastener. Plug the 12-pin connector of the Wall Plate Controller into the 12-pin
socket on the Lift's gray electrical box mounted on the Lifts top frame. The Wall Plate Controller
includes 75-feet of cable and is shipped with the Lift. It is located in the cardboard box attached to the
lid of the Lift's shipping crate.
•Once the Lift is properly installed in the ceiling and leveled, you can remove the shipping blocks.
Remove the blocks by removing the screws and tie-raps holding them in place.
TO AVOID CABLE SPILLS
•Do not push the lift boom upwards once the Lift has been installed.
•Make sure that there are no obstructions in the Lifts path. If the boom is lowered onto an
obstruction the cable will slack and spill over the cable drum. If the cable spills over the cable
drum and the Lift is not stopped the cable will back-wind onto the cable drum causing severe
damage to the Lift and accessories.
8. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Electrical connections should be made at this time. The SVS Plasma One 4 Lift requires 110V/60Hz at 2.3
Amps and is supplied with a six foot power cord. The SVS Plasma One 4 Lift is controlled with a 24VAC Low
Voltage Controller called the Wall Plate Controller. This controller can easily be connected to external
controllers like Crestron, AMX, Extron, etc. The Wall Plate Controller is supplied with 75-feet of cable (22
AWG, 9 conductor).

1. To lower the Lift, turn the key switch to the ON position and press the toggle switch down. The Lift will
lower as long as you hold the toggle switch down, the Lift will stop when it reaches the full down
position and compresses the Down Limit microswitch.
2. To raise the lift, urn the key switch to the ON position and press the toggle switch up. The Lift will rise
until the UpLimit microswitches are compressed. The Lift will rise as long as you hold the toggle
switch up.
3. The Off position on the key switch disables the Lift.
4. The Power light on the Wall Plate Controller only comes on when the
Lift is raising or lowering (Lift motor turning), not when power is
applied to the Lift.
Important: The toggles switch on the Wall Plate Controller must be pressed to
raise or lower the Lift, releasing the toggle switch stops the Lift. This is designed
as a safety feature. The key switch is an extra precaution, when the key is
removed, the Lift is secure.
b. Connecting a Touch Screen Controller (External Controller)
The simplest external controller connections are to use the White wire (pin 1) as
the common and the Green wire (pin 4) for down and the Red wire (pin 2) for
up. See Figure 9. Also:
1. Program a release of relays to stop the Lift on up and down positions
2. Program a time out after the normal runtime, 2 seconds max.
3. Program an exclusive lockout on up and down so that both cannot be
activated at the same time. (Note: SVS Lifts have a lockout function that
disables the Lift when it receives a up and down command at the same
Figure 6. Wall Plate
Controller
time. Removing one of the two commands
releases the lockout condition.)
4. Hold relays on to raise/lower the Lift.
5. Never leave voltage on the up and down.
Always program a release after the travel
time has been achieved.
If you have any questions please contact SVS for
proper wiring.
9. ACCESSORY INSTALLATION
Please refer to the accessory installation
instructions located in the accessory shipping
crates for specific instructions for each accessory.
The Accessory PPS-1 Plenum Shroud require that

•After checking the Lift operation and all
clearances you can install the screen on the Lift.
A screen mount is required to attach the screen to
the Lift.
•You can use an Accessory PMT-9 Screen Mount
from SVS or a standard wall type screen mount.
For custom mounting option please contact SVS,
Inc.
•The Plasma One 4 boom features a plate used to
attach the screen mounting bracket and must be
drilled to accommodate at least four (4) 3/8-inch16 nuts and bolts. The screen, screen mount,
and boom mounting plate must be centered in
the ceiling opening.
Figure 8. Touch Screen Controller Wiring
Figure 9. PCC-1 & PCC-2 Ceiling Closure Sizing
SVS Plasma One 4 Lift Installation InstructionsPage 12 of 16
a. Positioning the Boom Mounting Plate
•The plate is attached to the boom by three (3) 3/8-inch-16 flathead Allen bolts and Unistrut nuts. The
rectangle nuts are set into the slot of the boom with their locking grooves set into the edges of the slot.
Anytime that the nuts are loosened they must be checked to see that they are properly positioned with
their locking grooves set into the edges of the slot.
•To calculate the position of the boom mounting plate center divide the height of the screen in half and
add 3-inches [7.6 cm]. Measure down from the Up Limit Switch Reinforcement Plate on the boom and
place the center of the screen mounting plate at this location. Tighten all three (3) 3/8-inch-16 flathead
Allen bolts. See Figure 10.
b. Attaching the Screen Mount to the Boom Mounting Plate
•Attach the screen mount (centered side-to-side and top-to-bottom) to the boom mounting plate by
drilling four (4) 3/8-inch-16 holes in the boom mounting plate and screen mount. You may use existing
holes in the screen mount if they will allow the attaching the screen mount to the boom mounting plate.
•Secure the screen mount to the boom mounting plate by tightening all mounting hardware.
c. Installing the Screen on the Screen Mount
•Install the screen onto the screen mount using the manufacturers instructions. Ensure that the screen is
level and balanced. There should be appropriately 2-inches [5 cm] of clearance all the way around the
screen.
•Failure to maintain proper clearance could damage the screen, lift and/or ceiling.
•Using the Wall Plate Controller, raise the lift toward the up position, stopping frequently to check all
clearances (screen, lift, and ceiling closure). Make sure that there are no obstructions in the path of the
lift or in the ceiling cavity where the screen will be stored.
•Screen cabling can be attached either to the boom or ceiling
closure.
11. Lift Tilt Adjustment
•The boom tilt is factory set to zero degrees. The screen will need
to be installed first on the screen to determine the exact amount of
tilt required. The tilt is adjusted by loosening the top 3/8-inch-16
bolt screwed on the microswitch bracket. The microswitch bracket
is connected to a limit switch, when in contact with the boom
stops the lift. There must be positive weight forward of the boom
to achieve tilt. See Figure 11.
a. To Adjust Tilt:
•Lower the lift.
•Set the key switch to the OFF position.
•Loosen the 3/8-inch-16 bolt and Unistrut nut on the down limit
microswitch bracket. See Figure 11.
•Slide the down limit microswitch bracket forward to increase the
boom tilt and backwards to decrease the tilt. The stop bolt will
contact the boom.
SVS Plasma One 4 Lift Installation InstructionsPage 13 of 16
•When the tilt has been adjusted, tighten the 3/8-inch-16 bolt. Figure 10. Mounting Plate Center
•Caution: If the tilt is set to more than 3 degrees and the boom does not compress the limit
microswitch, the motor will not stop which could cause the lift cable to slack or unwind from the
cable drum and damage the screen and/or lift.
Figure 11. Lift Tilt Adjustment
12. MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENTS
a. Maintenance
•Inspect the Lift occasionally for any loose bolts or cable clamps.
•Check the Drum Lock Assembly to see if the Drum Lock solenoid energizes and raises the Drum Lock
arm when you press the Down toggle switch to lower the Lift. At all other times the Drum Lock
solenoid is de-energized and the Drum Lock arm stays in its down position. If the solenoid does not pull
up, the microswitch will not allow the motor to turn when to lowering the Lift.
•Check the Drum Lock pawl (white nylon piece) located on the Cable Drum. The pawl should move
freely and drop when when it reaches the top of the Cable Drum's rotation, avoiding contact with the
Drum Lock arm. If the drum rotates too fast, the pawl will swing out and catch the arm, locking the
drum.
•The Cable Drum Bearings (pillow block bearings) are pre-lubricated and do not require attention.
•The Lift motor does not require attention. If the magnetic brake (part of the Lift motor) does not
hold properly, it should be replaced immediately.
WARNING
To prevent personal injury and property damage when servicing any part of the lift drive system (electric
motor/brake, drive chain/sprockets, steel lift cables, and/or drum lock assembly) the screen must be
removed and the lift's lower frame supported by straps, chain, or cable to prevent it from lowering
unexpectedly while the drive system is being serviced.
