64/32-bit PCI 1000/100/10Mbps
Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
User's Guide
431320GTX1Z2
This User's Guide is used for the 64/32-bit PCI 1000/100/10Mbps Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. It is targeted at high performance adapter cards and motherboards. It implements the PCI Rev. 2.1/2.2, 66/33 MHz, 64/32-bit PCI bus interface for host communications with power management support. Packet descriptors and data are transfered via busmastering, reducing the burden on the host CPU. It is a Full-Duplex adapter connected to an Ethernet net- work with a single connection over unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable or fiber cable connection. It can auto-sense either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps by full auto-detection.
Features
*Compliant with PCI 2.1/2.2, 33/66MHz, 32bit/64bit *Fully compliant with IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u, IEEE802.3x *Supports data rates from 10 Mbps to 1000 Mbps *Embedded with 32K cache buffer *Supports wake-on-LAN and remote wake-up * Fully compliant with Microsoft NDIS5 (IP, TCP, UDP) Checksum and Segmentation Task-offload to lowering CPU utilization * Supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging
*Auto-Negotiation supported for Auto-Detect 10/100/1000Mbps data rate and Full/Half-Duplex operation mode * Supports ACPI, PCI power management

Installation Procedures
Discharge any static electricity from your body before handling the sensitive board of the card. Handle the card by its edges, and be careful not to twist or flex it. Follow the steps below to install the card:
Unpack the card package.
Switch off your computer's power.
Note: To prevent equipment damage and injury, never apply the power when installing. Turn off any
devices that you may attach to the computer.
Remove your computer's unit cover.
Locate a free PCI local bus master slot.
Remove the slot cover and screw.
Insert the card into the chosen and correct slot
carefully.
Put the computer's unit cover back.
Making Network Connection
Make sure the power to your computer is off to avoid damage to both the computer and the network interface card. Using the RJ-45 plug and twisted-pair cable, connect the network interface card to a 10BASE-T or 100 BASE-TX or 1000 BASE-X HUB (concentrator). Note that the maximum cable length between a hub and any computer is 100 meters (328 feet).
Note: Make sure you have the correct wiring. To reliably operate your network at 1000/100Mbps, you must use unshielded twisted pair (UTP) Category 5 or better Data Grade wire. While Category 3 or 4 wire may initially seem to work, it will soon cause data loss. The higher speed needs higher quality wire. For 10 Mbps operation, you can use either UTP Category 3, 4, or 5 Data Grade wire.
