Corrosion Protection
Inner cleaning of the tank with automated sand blasting (not chemically) resulting in a perfect adherence of the
enamel. Food grade enamel quality applied with a “double direct” method and baked at 850° C. Extra corrosion
protection is offered by magnesium rods that must be checked and replaced if necessary every 2 to 5 years, depending on the quality of the water

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
General Safety Information
WARNING! This appliance is capable of producing temperatures that exceed 50°C.
In certain circumstances safety valves could open to expel hot water and relieve pressure,
Never obstruct these valves and always leave them open to the atmosphere.
• This apparatus is intended for water heating only.
• Any and all work carried out in regards to the installation, commissioning and maintenance
of any SunScan Thermal heating system in its entirety is to be carried out by qualified and suitably trained
professionals.
Safety Considerations for Installation & Operation
All installations are to be carried out in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
requirements and any relevant local authority prescriptions.
General points to consider:
• Assess site specific risks and mitigate to an acceptable level prior to installation, if required consult a trained
professional.
• Water can reach Scalding temperatures!
• Handle Storage Tanks with care to avoid damage to property and personal injury.
• All safety gear must be worn at all times where relevant; these include but are not limited to safety goggles,
gloves, hard hats and safety shoes.
• Ensure installation personnel are competent and in suitable physical condition.
• Any scaffolding or specialized safety equipment must be installed by certified personnel.
• Installers must be trained and conversant with safety procedures
and relevant safety equipment.
• All personnel working on the installation of SunScan SunSilo tanks must be issued with the appropriate safety
equipment.
• Ensure that occupants are aware of all health and safety implications relevant to them.

INSTALLATION
Important!!!
SunScan SunSilo Tanks are not weatherproof and must be installed in a suitably protected area.
All aspects of the installation must be carried out by certified personnel. Fix the device depending on its type and make sure the surface (floor, wall, etc… ) can
withstand the weight by taking into account the weight of the device wh en full of water. Always leave a gap of at least 40cm from nearest wall and/or ceiling in order to be able to perform maintenance services.
Hydraulic Connections
Install the 400kpa Pressure reducing valve on the cold in-let. Make sure that if there is an
expansion valve that the evacuation side of the valve is directed outside and away from the building to a safe outlet point where leak-age will not cause damage to walls, floors, etc... If the P.R.V does not have an expansion valve, make sure that one is installed, in this instance if a non return valve is used the expansion valve must be installed between the geyser connection and non return valve (See diagram below)
A Temperature and pressure relief valve must be installed, SunScan recommends that a “banjo” type connection be made
A s hu t o ff ty p e “ d ra i n ” valve and an expansion pot of a volume equal to at least 5% of the tank volume must be installed.
Electrical Connections
Make sure that the operation tension of the device and the tension of the electric supply are compatible. Connect the device using the correct diameter cabling and fuses. Connect the L (phase), N (Neutral) and of course the ground connection. It is recommended the thermostat be placed between 5 0°C and 60 °C during winter months and between 45 °C and 50 °C during summer months. ATTENTION: before turning the electricity ON make sure
the device is full of water.
All electrical connections m ust be performed by a certified electrician.
9
10
MAINTENANCE
Routine Maintenance
(Maintenance must be performed by certified technicians).
For the correct function of the device, a periodical check of the anode and cleansing of the device from scale are recommende d. This periodical check mus t be performed every 2 to 4 years, de-pending on the hardness of the water, in order for the warranty to remain valid.
