BASIC OPERATION GUIDE
Introduction
Congratulations on choosing SUMO Technologies ST360. A sub-1kg package that features a compact and robust magnesium alloy enclosure, the SUMO ST360 is equipped with a bright 8.4” TFT touch screen interface and is powered by the AMD Geode LX800; that provides increased performance and good battery life. With an external hot swap battery option fitted, the SUMO ST360 can operate for up to 6 hours of mobile use.

Precautions
u Please take care when operating and handling the SUMO ST360. u Remember the SUMO ST360’s screen is breakable and excessive pressure should
not be applied.
u Use the stylus whenever you are able, this will help maintain clarity and cleanliness of
the device.
u Prolonged exposure of the screen to direct sunlight is not recommended, when using
the SUMO ST360 outside, face the unit away from the sun to reduce glare.
u Do not use any other power supply other than the one supplied with the unit. u If smoke, strange odour or abnormal noise are present, power the unit off and
disconnect from all power sources and isolate the battery (switch provided on rear). Then contact the device supplier as disassembly of the unit will immediately void any warranty.
u Operate the fingerprint scanner with clean fingers this avoids damaging the surface of
the sensor.
The SUMO ST360
Basic Features
The SUMO ST360 comes equipped with a bright and responsive touch display, a USB port, a CompactFlash slot and embedded networking equipment such as wireless LAN and Bluetooth. The basic features of the SUMO ST360 are complimented by a large range of optional accessories, these include: battery expansion, docking cradles and carrying cases that allow for a complete user experience.
SUMO ST360's typically have integrated 802.11b/g or 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN adapter. If the unit does not come with the typical adapter, consult your device provider to establish the desired network connectivity.
Operation
Internal Battery Switch
During transit and storage, the internal battery is switched off, this is to eliminate battery drain. For the unit to function this switch must be in the on position (up), even when using an external battery pack

Powering ON and OFF
To power the SUMO ST360 on, simply press and release the power button located on the left hand side of the unit. The display may take a few seconds to come on. To place the SUMO ST360 into standby mode press and release the power button. To power off the SUMO ST360 for extended storage power off the device using the operating systems “shut down/power off” feature.
NOTE: Batteries shipped with your unit may be low in power, please ensure the SUMO ST360 is given a full charge before every day’s operation is started. External battery packs may be charged whilst attached to the SUMO ST360 or in the optional external charging pack.
NOTE: When the battery pack is charging, the battery LED should blink slowly, should this not be the case then the batteries may have been drained completely. To remedy this, try plugging / unplugging the power to the SUMO St360 a few times to activate the charging process.
NOTE: To conserve power, place the unit into standby mode by pressing the power button briefly. To resume repeat the action.
NOTE: Avoid using the power button (press and hold feature) to power the unit off. This is designed for recovery of locked systems and should not be used on a regular basis.
Start Up
After a successful start up, the software interface will be displayed after the boot sequence. Wireless LAN may take 10 to 15 seconds longer to establish a connection.
Configuring the SUMO ST360
The device can be configured using the standard controls of the installed operating systems.

Calibration
Touch screen input is calibrated before shipping. If re-calibration is necessary please use PenMount (PM) application (in the system tray) to calibrate the interface using the stylus or USB mouse.
NOTE: For Microsoft Windows CE calibration tools are found in “Stylus application” in the control panel.
Wireless Networking
Wireless LAN The SUMO ST360 is delivered with an embedded 802.11a/b/g WLAN adapter as standard this is coupled with a custom integrated antenna. The embedded WLAN is supplemented with a user accessible PCMCIA slot for other WLAN/peripherals.
u The SUMO ST360 should be able to detect all 802.11x access points for user
selection and connection.
u SSID and WEP parameters on the SUMO ST360 and the access point have to match.
SSID is case sensitive and it is recommended that WEP is enabled for secure access.
u When WEP is enabled you may need to consult your network administrator or refer to
the network equipment documentation. This is to ensure associated settings such as Authentication mode are correct.
u Refer to the access point documentation to setup 802.11 x accesses.
Bluetooth
The SUMO ST360 features an integrated Bluetooth adapter that uses the Microsoft Windows Bluetooth protocol. You can access the configuration application from the System tray or the Control panel under Microsoft Windows XP. Under Microsoft Windows CE configuration is accessed via the Control panel, follow the instructions and options in these utilities to attain Bluetooth connectivity.
NOTE: Bluetooth devices that are not compatible with Microsoft Windows Bluetooth protocol may not work on the SUMO ST360.

Button Management
Where there is compatible software, many of the physical buttons on the SUMO ST360 are programmable. There are only two exceptions to this, the power button and the SAS button. To re-assign a button launch the Button Agent application located in the System Tray.
NOTE: For Microsoft Windows CE the Button Agent is located in the Control Panel.
Biometric Fingerprint Reader
This feature gives a fast and secure method to manage your SUMO ST360. The sensor application serves as a security and protection control panel. Your SUMO ST360 may come with an application that facilitates the use of this reader. Consult your device provider if you do not have access to such an application.
Brightness Control
A physical button may be used to alter the display brightness, press “Button 5” on the front of the SUMO ST360 to access the on-screen controls.
NOTE: For Microsoft Windows CE, select the Brightness icon in the control panel.
Battery and Power Management
The internal battery supplied with the SUMO ST360 supports approximately 1.5 – 2 hours of continuous operation. This can be extended by approximately 3 - 4 hours with the external battery pack (hot-swappable) that clips onto the back of the SUMO ST360. To lengthen battery life, use standby mode when not in active use.

Desktop Cradle
The SUMO ST360 is complemented with the addition of the (optional) desktop cradle, this supplies a comfortable platform for desk usage, Ethernet connections, USB ports and a charging station. The cradle will charge any battery attached to the SUMO ST360 whilst it is in the dock. For the charging, Ethernet and USB functions to work, the cradle must be powered with the AC/DC adapter.
Using the SUMO ST360
Memory Configuration
The SUMO ST360 is available with various memory configurations. These range from: 64MB to 1GB of flash memory and 256MB, 512MB or 1GB of RAM (1GB Memory option only on HDD versions).
NOTE: Storage space may be increased with the addition of: compact flash storage cards, USB flash drives, USB disk drives...etc. (No CF slot is available on HDD versions).
Peripherals Support
The SUMO ST360 can support a wide range of USB/PCMCIA accessories from keyboards, mice and USB disk drives to barcode scanners. The (optional) desktop cradle and securable/mountable VESA compatible cradle options can also expand on this connectivity.
Remote Management
Depending on software configuration the SUMO ST360 can be centrally managed for purposes such as asset monitoring and software control. Please consult your device supplier.
