EQUIPMENT SAFETY
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, observe the following:
• Use this unit only in the manner intended by the
manufacture r. If you have any questions, contact
the manufacturer.
• Before servicing or cleaning unit, switch power off at
service panel and lock service disconnecting means
to prevent power from being switched on
accidentally. When the service disconnecting means
cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent
warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
• Installation work and electrical wiring must be done
by qualified person(s) in accordance with all
applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated
construction.
• Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and
exhaustion of gases through the flue (chimney) of
fuel burning equipment to prevent back drafting.
Follow the heating equipment manufacturer’s
guideline and safety standards such as those
published by the National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA), and the American Society for Heating,
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE), and the local code authorities.
• When cutting or drilling into a wall or ceiling, do not
damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.
• Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.

Cooking Safety Information
1. Never leave the range hood unattended when in
use.
2. Never cook over open flames under the range
hood.
3. Always turn the range hood on when cooking at
high heat or when cooking flaming foods.
4. The minimum installation distance above the
range (D) is 18 in. (458 mm). Use extra caution
as the surface of the range hood may become
extremely hot to the touch if the range is
operated on high power for an extended amount
of time.
5. Use caution when cooking with oil or with deep
fryers. Overheating may cause oil to reach its
flash point and ignite. Used oil will ignite at lower
temperatures than fresh oil. Heat oils slowly on
low to medium setting.
6. Avoid boil overs, as they may cause smoking
and greasy spillovers that could ignite.
7. To prevent burns or fires, always use cookware
appropriate to the size of the heating element
that you are using.
8. In the event of fire, observe the following:
a. Be careful to avoid burns.
b. Smother flames with a close-fitting lid,
cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the
burner. If the flames do not go out
immediately, evacuate and call the fire
department.
c. Never pick up a flaming pan.
d. Do not use water, including wet dishcloths or
towels, as you could cause a steam
explosion.
e. Use an extinguisher only if: (a) you have a
class ABC extinguisher and you know how
to operate it, (b) the fire is small and
contained in the area where it started, (c)
the fire department is being called, and (d)
you can fight the fire with your back to the
exit.
Cleaning Safety Information
1. The fan and filter must be cleaning periodically and kept free from accumulation of cooking. Old,
worn, or broken filter must be replaced immediately.
2. Never disassemble parts to clean. Parts should be disassembled by qualified persons only.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: Before beginning the installation, switch the power off at the circuit breaker and lock the
service, disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally.
When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent
warning device, such as a tag, to the breaker.
Ductwork Requirements
NOTE: Read the ductwork sections only if you do not have existing ductwork. If you have existing
ductwork, skip to the Damage section, and proceed.
The venting system must exhaust to the outside. This hood can be vented vertically through upper
cabinets or horizontally into an outside wall. Ductwork is not included.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and to properly exhaust air, be sure to duct the air outside. Do
NOT vent exhaust air into spaces within walls or into ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or
garages.
Exhaust Connection
The hood exhaust has been designed to mate with a standard 3 ¼” x 10” rectangular ducting or a 7”
diameter transition adaptor must be used. If a rectangular-to-round transition adaptor is used, the
bottom corners of the damper will have to be cut to fit, using tin snips, in order to allow free
movement of the damper. Equivalent lengths of duct pieces are based on actual tests and reflect
requirements for good venting performance with any hood. Do NOT use less than a 6” diameter
duct.
Maximum Duct Length
For satisfactory air movement, the total duct length of a 3 ¼” x 10” rectangular, or 6” or 7” diameter
round duct should not exceed 65 equivalent feet. See the Worksheet – Calculate Total Equivalent
Ductwork Length section.
NOTE: It is important that ducting be installed using the most direct route and with as few elbows as
possible. This ensures clear venting of exhaust and helps prevent blockages. Also, make
sure dampers swing freely and nothing is blocking the ducts. When applicable, install any
makeup (replacement) air system in accordance with local building code requirements.
Elbows, transitions, wall, and roof caps present additional resistance to airflow and are equivalent to
a section of straight duct longer than their actual physical size. When calculating the total duct
length, add the equivalent lengths of all transitions and adaptors plus the length of all straight duct
sections. The charts on the following pages show you how to calculate total equivalent ductwork
length using the approximate feet of equivalent length of some typical ducts.
Damage
• If the unit is damaged in shipment, return the unit to the store in which it was bought for repair or
replacement.
• If the unit is damaged by the customer, repair or replacement is the responsibility of the
customer.
• If the unit is damaged by the installer (if other than the customer), repair or replacement must be
made by arrangement between customer and installer.

Wiring Connection
Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by a qualified person(s) in accordance with all
applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction.
• Electrical grounding is required for this range hood. Check with a qualified electrician if you are
not sure whether the range hood is properly grounded. A fuse in the neutral or grounding circuit
could result in electrical shock.
• Failure to follow electrical requirements may result in a fire.
• If the hot/cold water pipe is interrupted

NOTE: It is the customer's responsibility to contact a qualified electrical installer and assure that the
electrical installation is adequate and complies with the National Electrical Code, or CSA

• If codes permit and a separate ground wire is used, it is recommended that a qualified e

1. Use the power supply cable to connect the range hood
(A) directly to the junction box or circuit
breaker box. Use a flexible, armored, or nonmetallic sheathed copper cable only. Never use an

2. Connect a UL-listed or CSA-approved conduit connector to each end of the power supply cable
(at the range hood and at the junction box).
Connect the 2 colored wires from the range hood

Choosing a Vent Option
Determine the vent option that your installation will require and that is available for your model from
the below choices.
NOTE: If the hood is to be installed in a recirculating, non-vented, ductless manner, do not knock out
any vent openings in the hood.
WARNING: Always wear safety goggles and
gloves during installation.

Duct Installation
Remove the Filter
Take out filters from the accessory bag. Tear off film from grease filter. Put charcoal filter on grease
filter. Slip the back edge of the filter into the retaining slot. Rotate the filter block pin to fix the filters
into place.
If you are venting indoors, unscrew the 2 screws holding baffle in place and remove the baffle.
DO NOT REMOVE ANY OTHER VENTING HOLE COVER. If the hood is to be recirculated, skip to
the Cut Holes step.
Remove the Duct Knockout
Using a flat-blade screwdriver, remove the appropriate duct knockout from the top or back of the
hood.

For 3 ¼” x 10” Rectangular Ducted Installation
1. Remove tape from damper flap.
2. Attach exhaust adaptor/damper over the appropriate knockout opening (for vertical or horizontal,
depending on installation) with six exhaust adaptor screws. Make sure damper pivot is nearest to
top/back edge of hood.
For 7” Round Vertical Ducted Discharge Installation
1. 7" round duct plate is not included. You should purchase from the dealer.
2. On 7" round installations, attach the 7" duct with five mounting screws through the holes in the 7"
round duct.
For Recessed-Bottom Cabinets
If the cabinets have front, side or back trim, make 2 wood shims a minimum of 3/8” thick and cut to
fit the width of the inner recessed cabinet bottom. Attach them to the cabinet bottom recess on both
sides. See Step 9 for marking locations.

Cut Holes
• Cut holes at marked locations for duct.
• For the vertical duct, cut out ¾” extra toward the front of the cabinet so you can move the duct
freely when installing the hood. It may also ease installation by cutting the hole 10 ½” instead of
10”.

Secure the Hood
Slide the hood back against the wall. Tighten the mounting screws. Be sure the screw heads are in
the narrow neck of the keyhole slot.
NOTE: DO NOT push the fan blade. Pushing on the blade may cause it to interfere with other hood
parts.
Connect the Ductwork to the Hood (Ducted Installations Only)
• 7" round duct plate is not included. You should purchase from the dealer.
• On 7" round installations, attach the 7" duct with five mounting screws through the holes in the 7"
round duct.
• Use duct tape to make joints secure and tight.

Replace the Filter
Make sure fan blade turns freely and replace the filter.
NOTE: Install the metal grease filter if ducted or the charcoal filter if recirculated.
The installation is complete. Turn on the power at the breaker box and test the hood for proper
operation.
WARNING: Failure to replace worn out or
WARNING: Light bulbs can become hot when
turned on. Do not touch bulbs until they are switched
off and cooled. Touching hot bulbs could cause
serious burns.

CLEANING AND CARE
CAUTION: Be sure the range hood is disconnected from the power supply and all surfaces are cool
before cleaning any part of the vent hood.
Reusable Metal Grease Filter – Ducted Installations Only
The efficiency of your hood depends on a clean filter. Frequency of cleaning depends on hood use
and the type of cooking you do. However, the grease filter should be cleaned at least once a month.
To Remove
Rotate the filter block pin to slip the filters out of the hood.
To Clean
Soak and then agitate the filter in a solution of hot water and a mild detergent. Light brushing can be
used to remove any embedded dirt. Rinse, shake and let it dry before replacing.
To Replace
Insert the back edge of the filter into the retaining slot and push the front edge up until the filter close
against main body. Rotate filter block pin to fix the filter into place.
NOTE: NEVER OPERATE THE HOOD WITHOUT THE FILTER IN PLACE. With careful handling,
the metal filter will last for years. If a new replacement filter becomes necessary, order the
part from your dealer.
Charcoal Filter – Recirculating Installations Only
NOTE: DO NOT rinse or put charcoal filters in an automatic dishwasher.
• The charcoal filter cannot be cleaned. It
must be replaced. Replacement filters can
be ordered from your supplier.
• If the hood is not vented to the outside, the
air will be recirculated through a disposable
charcoal filter that helps remove smoke and
odors.
• The charcoal filter should be replaced after 6
to 12 months (depending on hood usage).
(SKIP THIS STEP IF YOU ARE USING
EXTERIOR VENTING)
NOTE: The charcoal filter should only be
installed if you are not using an external venting
system.
• Turn the filter clip to either side and lift the
aluminum filter.
• Place the charcoal filter in place, ensure
that it covers the air outlet entirely.
• Turn the filter clip so that the end of the
clip holds the filter firmly in place.

Surfaces
CAUTION: When cleaning the hood surfaces, be certain that you do not touch the light bulb with
moist hands or cloth. A warm or hot light bulb may break if touched with a moist surface.
Always let the light bulb cool completely before cleaning around it.
• Stainless Steel Surfaces (on some models) Do not use a steel-wool pad; it will scratch the
surface.
• To clean the stainless steel surface, use warm sudsy water or a stainless steel cleaner or polish.
Always wipe the surface in the direction of the grain. Follow the cleaner instructions for cleaning
the stainless steel surface.
NOTE: When cleaning, take care not to come in contact with filters and other non- enameled
surfaces.
• Do not use steel-wool pads or other abrasive cleaners on painted surfaces. They will scratch the
surface.
• Clean grease-laden surfaces of the hood frequently. To clean the hood surface, use a hot, damp
cloth with a mild detergent suitable for painted surfaces. About one tablespoon of ammonia may
be added to the water. Use a clean, hot, damp cloth to remove soap. Dry with a dry, clean cloth.
TROUBLESHOOTING
You can solve many common problems easily, possibly saving you the cost of a service call. Try the
suggestions below to see if you can solve the problem before calling the servicer.
If the hood seems to be operating at high speed when the control is not set on high, or if ventilation
seems inadequate, check the following:
• Knockouts not removed from hood. Damper blade not opening.
• Reduced airflow because the duct is too small, or the duct length is too long.
• The duct is blocked.
• Undersized or restrictive wall or roof cap.
If the hood seems to make excessive noise:
• Fan may be hitting the filter. Turn off the fan and remove the filter. Bend the filter down
slightly in the center (into a dome shape) to allow fan clearance. Reinstall and adjust as
needed.
The fan does not work but the lights do:
•
Switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to
prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting
means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag,
to the service panel.
• Check the wiring connections. See the CONNECT WIRING section in these
Installation Instructions.

LIMITED WARRANTY
Within the 48 contiguous United States, for one year from the date of purchase, when this appliance is operated
and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, warrantor will pay for factoryspecified parts and repair labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship. Service must be provided by a
designated service company. Outside the 48 states, all parts are warranted for one year from manufacturing
defects. Plastic parts, shelves and cabinets are warranted to be manufactured to commercially acceptable
standards and are not covered from damage during handling or breakage.
ITEMS WARRANTOR WILL NOT PAY FOR:
1. Service calls to correct the installation of your appliance, to instruct you how to use your appliance, to replace
or repair fuses or to correct wiring or plumbing.
2. Service calls to repair or replace appliance light bulbs or broken glass shelves. Consumable parts (such as
filters) are excluded from warranty coverage.
3. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God, improper installation,
installation not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes, or use of products not approved by warrantor.
4. Replacement parts or repair labor costs for units operated outside the United States.
5. Repairs to parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to the appliance.
6. The removal and reinstallation of your appliance if it is installed in an inaccessible location or is not installed in
accordance with published installation instructions.
