SCOUTING TRAIL CAMERA EASY SETUP GUIDE
Model: S680M
Needed: 8xAA alkaline or 8xAA rechargeable batteries, see manual where to fit. important
note: you have to select the battery type you choose to use in the menu. you can also
choose to use a solar panel. if a solar panel will be used, please make sure there are no
batteries in the unit as this will cause permanent damage to the camera!
SIM Card: a micro SIM card is needed and not a standard or NANO SIM. please load with
airtime if you want to use mms and data bundle, if you want to use SMTP (email to email).
(note: mms bundles will not work and please ask the provider of the SIM card (Vodacom,
MTN, Cell C) to activate the mms function on the SIM card before you leave the shop.
Camera: you have 4x flip switches on the back of the camera: the left one is “on and off”,
next to it is “camera/video camera” (leave this one on camera). On the right you have
“19/40” (black led flash) for inside select 19 and outside or large areas use 40) the last one
on the right is the “GPRS on and off”
Start setup and use as indicated below:
Please follow the next settings as it will ensure the working of the camera. make sure that
the antennae is fastened and the GPRS switch is “on”.
Switch the camera “on”, allow 2 seconds and press the “ok button” once.
This will start up the display LCD screen of the camera.
Please wait until you can see what the camera is pointing at, and is displaying it on the LCD
screen.
You will find on the left side of the screen vertical stripes from short to long indicating signal
strength (if you have a working SIM card in the camera)
Now press the “m”(menu) button once. you will now have the menu open.

You can select with the “ok button” and exit with the “m” button. move up and down left
and right with the arrow buttons.
Set the camera to the following:
1. Cam ID: “on or off” you can decide to name it or not (this will also show on the
photo’s)
2. Cam Mode: this must be on “photo” to send mms or emails (if you want to record
video the camera will not send a mms or email when video is on)
3. Image Size: select 5mp- 12mp (remember that the photo sent to your phone is not
the quality selected here and will be a compressed file only, so 5mp is ok)
4. Night Mode: choose the one you need (“balanced” recommended)
5. Multi-Shot: to 1p – 5p (this is the number of photos taken per movement but only
the last one taken will be sent via mms or email. make sure you select the correct
setting. (for most applications select 1p)
6. Video Size: does not matter
7. Video Length: does not matter
(to move across to the next column PIR make sure the cam is highlighted in red and
press the right arrow)
8. Sensitivity: set to “middle”
9. Delay: must be “on” and set to min 15 sec (you can make the delay longer if too
many photo’s are sent or you need a longer time between photo’s)
10. Time Lapse: must be “off”
11. Timer: select “off” to work 24h (a full day), “on” if only part of a day and set the
time. (please note: the camera can send you a few pictures during the “off time” if
timer is on. this is only to confirm standby and battery life is still ok)
(to highlight PIR to move across to 3g press the up arrow if not in red) ( if you cannot
select the country set option in the menu your GPRS switch is off.... please switch “on”
and start the camera up again)
12. Country Set: select “South Africa” and then select your service provider (MTN,
Vodacom, Cell C) once selected you will need to press the “m” button once to exit.
13. # Mms Setup: confirm it is “on” if you want to use mms only. (do not change any
other settings in here) if you want to send email to email this must be “off”
14. # SMTP Setup: confirm it is “on” if you want to send email to email if you want to
send via mms this must be “off”
To setup SMTP for email to email: open SMTP and turn “on”
- Mail Server IP: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 587

- Mail Account: create an email account with Gmail... that you want to send
from (keep it short there is limited space to enter!)
- Mail Password: enter the password for the above email address that you
created.
- You have to set the security access to this email account on Gmail to allow
less secure devices to access this email account! this is in the security
setup of Gmail.
15. FTP Setup: confirm it is “off” if not set to “off” (do not change any other settings in
here)
16. Send To:
Phone: select phone 1 and enter number to which the photo must be sent (this is
only if you are using mms option). you can add 2 numbers in here. (note: please
enter number as 082 000 0000 and not as +2782 000 0000) you will be charged per
number you send the photo to.
Email: enter your email address that you want to receive the picture to. (this is for
SMTP option, email to email)
17. Sending Picture Size: select the size (this will only be applicable to email to email
sending.
18. Max Num/Day: ensure that this option is set to “unlimited” to ensure the camera
will send every picture taken
19. SMS Ctrl: select “by trigger” (this will give you the best battery life). if you need
SMS commands to be done immediately you can select “all the time” (please take
note: that you will only have battery life for a day or two as the modem is kept live
and is using a lot of power)
20. Daily Report: select “off”
(to highlight the 3g to move across to other column press the “m” button once)
21. Language: English
22. Date And Time: set the time and date. (this will be on the photos taken)
23. Stamp: set to “on” (so that the photo will have a time and date on it)
24. Battery Type: very important to select the type of battery if you want to use
rechargeable AA batteries (do not mix alkaline and rechargeable batteries)
25. Frequency: leave on “50hz”
26. SD Cycle Recording: select “on” (this will delete the oldest photo and keep the
newest one once the SD card is full only)
27. Reset: do not do anything in here.
28. Password: leave this “off” (if selected “on” and you lose your password it will be
blocked)
29. About: do not do anything in here.

When this setup is done you can exit by pressing the “m” button once, this will take the LCD
screen back to let you view what the camera is pointing at.
Switch off the camera using the “on/off” button. (this will now save the changes)
To switch on the camera you must follow the following step by step:
Please ensure that the antenna is screwed on and the backing of the camera is tied to where
you want the camera to operate
1. Switch “on” the GPRS switch first. (if mms or email must be sent)
2. Switch “on” the camera and connect the front and back units together and secure
the clips on the side. ensure that you can see the “red led” in the front flash 1-2 times
after the front and back parts are clipped together.
3. The camera is now on and ready to take the first picture and send this to your phone
or email as you did the setup.
Notes:
Leave the camera on for at least 15min to do a test on the first photo/email. if
you get 2 or more photos in shorter time you can switch off the camera and
move it to where you want to put the camera to use. (if you enabled the
timer, please make sure what time it is and it is in your working time...
otherwise the camera will not work till your set time comes)
The camera is only effective if the signal from cell phone provider is reliable.
the cell phone reception in South Africa is intermittent and this will affect the
consistency of the camera. the camera can only transmit a picture if the
network allows it in your area. inconsistent picture sending is in most cases
due to the network and not the camera. this can be tested by testing the
camera in town or other area and comparing the results.
