Ultra SCSI Cable Kit
ULTRA SCSI CABLE KIT
The Data Silo Ultra SCSI Cable Kit (part number DCULTRA-KIT), designed to fit the rear panel of KingstonĀ®'s 9-bay Data Silo rack mount or tower chassis, permits an extended external SCSI cable length beyond the 1.5 meter limit imposed by the SCSI 3 protocol (see figure below).
With the DCULTRA-KIT installed, a maximum Host-to-Data Silo external SCSI cable length of 3 meters (9.84 ft) is permitted. The supplied internal ribbon cable supports up to seven (7) internal SCSI 3 devices. Additionally, up to 3 Data Silo chassis may be daisy-chained together, provided that each chassis is equipped with a DCULTRA-KIT and the total external cable length does not exceed 3 meters. Note that external SCSI cable(s) must meet the SCSI 3 (40 MBytes/sec) Specification.
An internal SCSI 3 active terminator is included with the DCULTRA-KIT. All drives installed within the chassis must have onboard termination disabled. (Refer to the device manufacturer's instructions for termination information). This configuration allows LVD compatibility, but will not support maximum Ultra2 (LVD) transfer rates (of up to 80 MBytes/sec).
The DCULTRA-KIT includes the Ultra SCSI repeater board with internal and external SCSI connectors, internal power splitting cable, terminator, internal SCSI 3 ribbon cable, and rear panel mounting screws.

INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect all power and remove cables from the Data Silo chassis.
2. Open the Data Silo chassis to gain access to the internal cables and rear panel I/O connectors. Refer to the Data Silo User's Guide if necessary for information on this procedure.
3. Remove existing internal SCSI ribbon cable if installed.
4. Verify that ALL devices within the Data Silo chassis have termination disabled.
5. Remove existing chassis rear panel connector(s) if necessary.
6. Unfasten the fan power cable bracket from inside the Data Silo panel by removing bracket screw. Remove bracket from fan power cable assembly and discard (see Figure 1).
NOTE: The fan power cable bracket must be removed before the
DCULTRA-KIT can be installed.
7. Attach one end of the power cable to the Ultra SCSI board, attach the other end to the Data Silo power strip. The position of existing device power cables may need to be adjusted to accommodate the Ultra SCSI power cable.
8. Attach the Ultra SCSI repeater board to the Data Silo rear panel with the two (2) provided screws, component-side facing away from the Data Silo panel (see Figure 2).
9. Connect the internal SCSI ribbon cable to the Ultra SCSI board and installed devices.
10. Reinstall the Data Silo covers and cables removed earlier.
11. If using a SCSI daisy-chain with multiple Data Silo chassis, verify that the external SCSI cable meets the SCSI 3 (40 MBytes/sec) Specification and that the cable does not exceed 3 meters (9.84 ft) in length.
NOTE: Ultra2 (LVD) devices can be installed with the
DCULTRA-KIT, but will only operate in Single-Ended mode (maximum transfer rate of 40 MBytes/sec).
