Figure 1: DE400 Receiving Frame and Carriers
This User's Guide describes the steps required to install the DE400 removable enclosure inside a computer peripheral bay or external expansion chassis. This guide supplements documentation provided with the host computer system, operating system, and the drive to be installed within the carrier.
GeneralDescription
NOTES: For Serial ATA (1.5Gbps) operation, a Serial ATA controller and appropriate
Serial ATA cable are required.
A mounting bracket (not included) may be required for the installation of the DE400. Refer to your chassis manufacturers documentation for further information.
The StorCase Technology Data Express® DE400 is composed of a receiving frame which supports Serial ATA interfaces and fits within 5.25" full-height peripheral slots. The receiving frame contains four (4) removable drive carriers designed to provide durable and reliable mounting for 3.5" form factor, low-profile 1" high Serial ATA and/or Parallel ATA drives (Figure
1).
A fan module on the rear of the receiving frame provides enhanced heat dissipation (23.7 CFM).
The DE400 allows a drive to be removed and transported to another DE400-equipped computer or expansion chassis, and also provides the ability to secure sensitive data by removing and storing the drive safely for future use. The DE400 is particularly well suited for PCI-based RAID controller applications.

A mounting bracket (not included) may be required for the installation of the DE400. Refer to your chassis manufacturers documentation for further information.
InstallingtheDriveintheCarrier
Preparation
While performing the steps in this section, work on a soft surface to prevent excessive shock to the drive being installed. Also refer to the manufacturer's documentation provided with the
drive.
NOTE: A #2 Phillips screwdriver will be required during this procedure.
SATA Drives
 Remove the drive from its protective packaging.
 If the drive came equipped with a plastic front bezel, it must be removed.
PATA Drives
 Remove the drive from its protective packaging.
 If the drive came equipped with a plastic front bezel, it must be removed.
 Configure the drive jumper setting to Cable Select before installing into PATA
DE400 carrier.
In most cases, the drive will be factory-configured as a Master Drive using a jumper option on the drive itself. StorCase however, recommends reconfiguring the drive to Cable Select instead. This can be done by configuring the jumper option on the drive itself (refer to the drive manufacturer's documentation for further information).
