Stone Deaf PDF-1X Instruction Manual

Its been 10 years since we presented our first offering the PDF-1 to the world and weve decided by popular demand to bring it back but to keep the features of the PDF-2 as well as add some new things to the circuit.
As one of the lucky few we present to you the Ltd Edition PDF-1X. This is a combination of the original PDF-1 and PDF-2 with 800 units being manufactured world wide.x
The PDF-1X takes the best bits of both units and combines them for a set and forget pedal board staple as well as a studio recording tool to bring life to dead tone and bland amps.
As many of you already know, if you have owned a PDF-2 or PDF-1 its lacked a volume knob which we have added. Weve also tucked away the gain knob to an internal trim pot which is a set and forget feature. The volume knob however opens up a variety of tonal options on both channels being able to drive clean amps into overdrive or manage tone at lower levels.
The soft clipping circuit is set to PDF-1 territory from manufacture so adjust accordingly to get PDF-2 gain by using the internal gain trim pot.
The PDF-1X is our most versatile offering combining boost, cut, Parametric EQ, Distortion, Overdrive and Fuzz Tones as well as Expression. It will also work on bass, synth or other instruments should you wish to experiment so it is quite possibly one of the most versatile analog pedals on the market today.
.
Height Knob: controls how much cut or boost by + /
- 20dB. Unity gain moves position with the frequency shift , Q Position and amount of
volume.
5 Position Bandwidth: sets the Q of the boost or cut. From thin (left positions) to fat (right positions) which is a standard pedal
response.
Clean and Dirty Footswitch: switches the distortion circuit in or out for clean boost or distorted boost.
Vol Knob: allows you to control volume from 15+ dB to zero volume.
Freq Knob: allows you to set the frequency you want to boost or cut. Ranges from 35hz to
Back Front
6khz.
On / Off:
• Parametric EQ with adjustable volume can boost the clean channel of an amp into distortion and clipping with the option of additional clipping from the gain circuit.
• (IMPORTANT: ADJUSTABLE GAIN IS AVAILABLE WITH THE INTERNAL TRIM POT. UNSCREW THE CHASSIS BASE AND SET AND FORGET. THIS WILL CAUSE OSCILLATION AND DISTORTION COMPRESSION WHEN TOO HIGH!!!) The gain is set to original PDF-1 settings but can be adjusted with a small screwdriver to increase to PDF-2 and beyond.
• Frequency response from 35hz to 6hz. (WILL WORK ON BASS AND GUITAR aswell as other instruments!)
• Frequency sweep control via dedicated expression input and expression pedal (Only compatible with the Stone Deaf Expression EP-1 pedal!) Allows for Phaser, Wah and Tone control Settings;
• Wah Setting: Set Q to thin, Height to Maximum
• Phaser Setting: Set Q to thin, Height to Minimum
• Tone Control: Set Q to Middle position, Height to suit.
• 9v Power supply centre negative 2.1mm Boss Style (use isolated power supply to reduce noise) Current Draw is 50ma)
• Foot-switchable dual channel, clean and dirty parametric EQ
• Hand Built in Manchester, United Kingdom.
turns the pedal from bypass to on.
Please note unity gain will move with different frequency positions and you need to adjust all controls to suit. Ideal position is to place at the end of your overdrive / fuzz chain and before modulation. It will add additional noise on the gain circuit and by increasing the volume in your effects chain. Id recommend our noise-gate to eliminate this.
