1.2. Ex pla na tions and in for ma tion
Var i ous terms and des ig na tions are used fre quently in these op er at ing in struc ­tions to en sure clar ity. There fore please note that the terms used in the text stand for the cor re spond ing ex pla na tions listed be low.
Equip ment
·
“Equip ment” can mean an in di vid ual unit, a ma chine or an in stal la tion.
Op er ating per son nel
·
The “op er at ing per son nel” are per sons op er at ing the equip ment on their own re ­spon si bil ity or ac cord ing to in struc tions (min i mum age: 16).
Op er a tor
·
The “op er a tor” of the equip ment (pro duc tion man ager, fore man, etc.) is the per ­son re spon si ble for all pro duc tion se quences. The op er a tor in structs the op er at ­ing per son nel of what is to be done.
Op er ating in struc tions
·
The “plant op er at ing in struc tions” de scribe the in ter ac tion of the equip ment, pro ­duc tion se quences or meth ods. The plant op er at ing in struc tions must be com ­piled by the op er a tor of the equip ment.
Equip ment fore man
·
When sev eral op er at ing per son nel work on one ma chine, the “equip ment fore ­man” co or di nates the se quences. The equip ment fore man must be ap pointed by the op er a tor.
Trained per son nel
·
“Trained per son nel” are per sons who, due to their train ing, are au tho rized to carry out the re quired work in good prac tice.

1.3. For your safety
It is ab so lutely nec es sary that you ob serve the op er at ing in struc tions for the cor -

The de vice is in tended ex clu sively for con vey ing plas tic gran ules and regrind.

Any other us age is not per mit ted.
This de vice is not suit able for pro cess ing foods.
·
Be fore be gin ning main te nance work, set all com pressed air pip ing on the de vice

at zero pres sure. Dan ger of ac ci dents!
The de vice may only be op er ated if all cor re spond ing com po nents have been

prop erly con nected and are in ac cor dance with the rel e vant reg u la tions.

1.4. For the safety of the equip ment
It is ab so lutely nec es sary that you ob serve the op er at ing in struc tions for the cor -

re spond ing con vey ing sys tem.
For the op er a tion of the hop pers, a com pressed-air sup ply is nec es sary.
·
Never set the op er at ing pres sure of the hop pers at more than 6 bar (87.02 PSI)
·
(sys tem overpressure).
In stall the hop pers in such a way that the out let flap is hinged in a right an gle to the
·
di rec tion of move ment of the ma chine.
Make sure that all plugs are con nected prop erly.
·
Ob serve the car ry ing ca pac ity of the ma chine flange.

Ob serve safety reg u la tions with re gard to lift ing gear han dling
All in stal la tion work must be car ried out with the equip ment dis ­con nected from elec tri cal power and com pressed air sup ply.

For in stal la tion work tak ing place at heights of over approx.1829mm (6 ft.), use only lad ders or sim i lar equip ­ment and work ing plat forms in tended for this pur pose. At greater heights, the proper equip ment for pro tec tion against fall ing must be worn.
Use only suit able lift ing gear which is in proper work ing or der and load sus pen sion de vices with suf fi cient car ry ing ca pac ­ity. Do not stand or work un der sus pended loads!
Use suit able work shop equip ment.

For trans port, only the ap pro pri ate lift ing gear should be used (e.g. fork lift or work shop crane).

2.2. Set-up
The ar range ment of the hop per load ers may vary de pend ing on the type of de ­vice to be con veyed on and the ma te rial used. Fas ten ing onto fixed ma chine throats is pro vided by means of strap re tain ers. How ever, ad di tional sup port of the hop per loader is nec es sary if the de vices are not suf fi ciently ca pa ble of bear ­ing the load.
Mount the hop per loader in such a way that the out let flap swings in a right-hand an gle to the di rec tion of ma chine move ment. Please check dur ing as sem bly that the ad mis si ble bear ing loads are not ex ceeded.
Please check that all con nect ing points are tight to en sure that the con vey ing per ­for mance is not im paired.
It should more over be ob served, par tic u larly if cus tom pro duced con nect ing parts are used, that the ma te rial dis charged from the hop per loader must nei ther get into the open nor must it clog the fil ter sur faces (ob serve an gle of re pose!).
Do not ex ces sively load in let noz zle of hop per loader, re move hose sep a rately, if nec es sary!

2.3. Com pressed-air sup ply
For op er at ing the con trol valves and the clean ing unit, a com pressed-air sup ply is nec es sary.

Check com pressed-air pip ing for cor rect in stal la tion and as sem bly.
Check fit tings, length and qual ity of the hose con nec tions for agree ment with re ­quire ments.
The op er at ing pres sure is 5-6 bar (72.52-87.02 PSI) (sys tem overpressure).
Depressurize com pressed-air sup ply lines which must be opened.
Com pressed air must be dewatered, dustfree and oilfree.
In stall a main te nance unit if re quired.
Ad just pres sure to a max. value of 6 bar (87.02 PSI) (sys tem overpressure).
Check the com pressed-air sup plied by the plant’s sup ply net work.
Ad just com pressed-air pres sure to 5-6 bar (72.52-87.02 PSI) (sys tem overpressure).
Con nect the unit to the plant’s sup ply net work by means of a hose.

2.4. Elec tri cal con nec tion
The elec tri cal con nec tion may only be car ried out by trained per -
»
son nel.
Other per sons are not per mit ted to carry out the elec tri cal con ­nec tion.
The rules of the lo cal elec tric ity board must be ob served.
Be fore be gin ning the elec tri cal con nec tion, make sure that the mains volt age and the power fre quency are in ac cor dance with the data on the name plate of the de vice.
All work may only be car ried out when the unit is at zero volt age and at zero pres sure.

3.1. Gen eral
The con veyor hop per is used for the au to matic con vey ance of freely flow ing plas ­tic gran ules, regrind and pow der. The hop per can only func tion in con nec tion with a multi-sta tion vac uum con vey ing sys tem.
The con veyor hop per func tions ac cord ing to the prin ci ple of suc tion con vey ance. A high-per for mance tur bine pro vides for the vac uum that is re quired to con vey the ma te rial into the sep a ra tor.
In the sep a ra tor the ma te rial is sep a rated from air by sev eral fil ter car tridges. Af ­ter the con vey ing time is fin ished the tur bine is switched off and the ma te rial emp ­tied.
The au to matic fil ter clean ing takes place by ad just able com pressed-air shocks (pulse du ra tion).
On the hop per, there is a sep a rate on/off switch (A) and a func tion con ­trol ling de vice which in di cates the fol ­low ing op er a tional modes:
(B): lamp on - hop per switched on at the on/off switch (A); lamp flashes ­the hop per is con vey ing
(C): lamp flashes - er ror
(D): lamp is on - hop per sig nals lack of ma te rial

The fil ter-clean ing pro cess takes place dur ing the con vey ing pro cess.
The fil ter car tridges are cleaned in ad just able in ter vals (time in ter val).

3.2. Con trol ler SSP
The set ting for the con vey ing time and the line clear time are made via the keys (A1: “change-over” key, A2: “ar row key”) on the front of the con trol sys tem. The val ues which have been set will be dis played on the dis play (B). The val ues which have been set are main tained af ter the ma chine has been shut off.

The pulse du ra tion can be set to 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 sec onds.
The time in ter val can be set from 5 to 20 sec onds.
When the unit is switched on all LEDs blink and the soft ware ver sion is dis played.

It is only pos si ble to set the pulse du ra tion / time in ter val when the unit is not con vey ing any ma te rial.
The pulse du ra tion (= du ra tion of a clean ing pulse) which was last se lected ap pears in the dis play.
0.5, 1.0 or 1.5 sec onds may be set for the pulse du ra tion.
Press the “ar row key” and
the “change-over” key.

If a dis tur bance oc curs in the unit, an alarm mes sage will be is sued.

Be fore start ing main te nance work, clean the equip ment of oil, fuel or lu bri cants.
En sure that ma te ri als and in ci den tals re quired for op er a tion as well as spare parts are dis posed of prop erly and in an en ­vi ron men tally sound man ner.
Use only orig i nal Ster ling spare parts.

Weekly: check the main te nance unit
check the op er at ing pres sure in the fac tory ductwork sys tem (max. 6 bar sys tem overpressure)
Monthly: check the sealings on the fil ter car tridges
(ac cord ing to the ac cu mu la tion of dust)
Ev ery six months: check fil ter con tam i na tion, if nec es sary clean or
re place the fil ter car tridges

check the set tings of the level probes (if avail able)

5.2. Re placing the nonreturn valve seal ing ring
Stop the con vey ing pro ce dure.

Switch off the hop per by means of the on/off switch on the con ­nec tion hous ing.
Switch off the con vey ing con trol by means of the main switch.
Dis con nect the unit from mains sup ply.
Depressurize all sys tem sec tions of the equip ment.
Open the ten sion ring (A).
Re move the hop per lid.
Draw the old seal ing ring off the noz zle.
In stall the new seal ing ring. Ob ­serve the di rec tion of in stal la tion (B).
Mount the hop per lid.
Close the ten sion ring (A).
In stall the hop per loader.

Re move the ten sion ring (A).
Re move the up per part of the hop per loader with hop per lid.
Draw the old seal ing ring off the noz zle of the ma te rial out let.
In stall the new seal ing ring.

5.3.1. Ad just the flap switch
Re move the con nect ing plug “flap switch” from the con nec tion hous ing of the hop per.
Con nect an ohm me ter to PINS 2 and 3 of the con nect ing plug “flap switch”.
Re lease the nuts (A) of the flap switch (B) un til the sup port can be dis placed.
Open the out let flap (C) so far that the front tip of the out let flap is approx. 30 mm (1.28 in.) away from the seal ing sur face.
Dis place the flap switch (B) un til the con tact of the mag net switch is closed.
Tighten the nuts (A) of the flap switch.
Check the ad just ment: In case of free hang ing out let flap

(empty hop per loader) the con tact of the mag net switch must be closed.
Out let flap
If the out let flap can not be prop erly ad justed, re place the flap switch or the out let flap with mag net.

5.4. Cleaning the hop per loader
Stop the con vey ing pro ce dure.

Switch off the hop per by means of the on/off switch on the con ­nec tion hous ing.
Switch off the con vey ing con trol by means of the main switch.
Dis con nect the unit from mains sup ply.
Depressurize all sys tem sec tions of the equip ment.
Open the ten sion ring (A).
Re move the hop per loader lid.

Clean the hop per loader by means of a vac uum cleaner.
In stall the up per part of the hop per loader.
Close the ten sion ring (B).
Mount the clean ing unit.
Mount the hop per loader lid.
Close the ten sion ring (A).

Stop the con vey ing pro ce dure.

Switch off the hop per by means of the on/off switch on the con ­nec tion hous ing.
Switch off the con vey ing con trol by means of the main switch.
Dis con nect the unit from mains sup ply.
Depressurize all sys tem sec tions of the equip ment.
Clean the sep a ra tor hop per each time you are chang ing the ma te ri als.
Use only clean ing agents which ful fil the cor re spond ing re ­quire ments.
Only clean the sep a ra tor hop per with com pressed-air and/or a brush.
