Installation
WARNING: Hard drives require careful handling, especially when being transported. If you are not careful with your hard disk, lost data may result. Always handle your hard drive and storage device with caution.
Hardware Installation
1. Make sure the power switch on the enclosure is set to OFF and the power adapter is unplugged from the enclosure.
2. Unlock the drive bay doors by turning the twist lock clockwise with the provided keys.
3. Open the drive bay doors by pulling on the metal door latch forward.
4. Slide a bare 2.5” SATA hard drive into the drive bay and close the door behind it, making sure it latches properly.
5. Lock the drive bay doors by turning the twist lock counter-clockwise with the provided keys.
6. Set the enclosure to the proper RAID mode via the selection switch on the rear.
7. Connect the power adapter from an electrical outlet to the enclosure.
8. Power on the enclosure by setting the power switch to ON.

How to Congure
Operating Modes
Mode Description
RAID 0 (Striping)
Striping combines multiple disks into a single large disk array. The data is split evenly across each disk simultaneously. Read/ write performance is increased as a result, but failure of any one disk will make the entire array unusable.
RAID 1 (Mirror)
Mirroring writes the same data across multiple disks, creating exact mirror copies. This provides redundancy in case one drive fails.
JBOD (Single)
JBOD enables each hard drive to be seen as separate independent drives. If only a single hard drive is installed, ensure this mode is enabled.
NOTE: When using eSATA, this mode should only be used if the eSATA host controller provides Port Multiplier (PM) support. If a host is not PM-aware, only a single drive will be visible. No such limitation exists if using the USB connection.
BIG (Concat)
BIG concatenates multiple hard drives into a single large disk. Provides no performance or redundancy benets.

Using the Storage Device
Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
If you are using a brand new hard drive that does not contain any data, then you will rst need to prepare the hard drive for use. From the main desktop, right-click on “My Computer” (“Computer” in Vista/7), then select Manage. In the new Computer Management window, select Disk Management from the left window panel.
Locate the Disk that says it is “Unallocated” (check hard drive capacity to conrm it’s the correct hard drive) and then right-click in the section that says “Unallocated” and select “New Partition”.

The New Partition Wizard will appear. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete setting up the drive. Once complete, the Disk should show up as “Healthy” with a drive letter assigned (i.e. E:). This drive letter should now appear within My Computer.
If you are installing a hard drive that already has data on it, then after plugging it in, the drive should automatically show up with a drive letter assigned within My Computer.
