Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a StarTech.com PEX1S952/PEX2S952 Dual
Profile PCI Express 16C950 UART Serial Card. This dual profile Serial
card converts a PCI Express slot into two available RS-232 (DB9) serial
connections, while relying on a native, single-chip design for optimal
performance and reliability.

Conguration
The card is specially designed to allow power output from the ninth pin of
the connector to enable power up of the connected devices without power
adapter. The card allows user to set each individual port with 5V, 12V, or
RI (no power). The user may also choose to draw the needed power from
the external system power supply.
Hardware Installation
Turn Off the power to your computer.1.
Unplug the power cord and remove your computer’s cover.2.
Remove the slot bracket from an available PCIe slot.3.3.
To install the card, carefully align the card’s bus connector with the 4.
selected PCIe slot on the motherboard. Push the board down firmly.
Connect the system power source to the board’s power connector.5.
Replace the slot backet’s holding screw to secure the card.6.
Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord.7.

Installing the Software Drivers
This section provides information regarding the installation of the Super
PCI-E I/O drivers for the following operating systems:
Windows 2000 Driver installation
At the Add New Hardware Wizard window, click “Next”1.
Select the option “Search for the best driver for your devices (Recom- 2.
mended)” and click “Next”
Select the option “Specify the location” and type in d:\Uart (CD-ROM) 3.
then click “Next”
Click “Next” and then “Finish” respectively.4.
Remove the disc, then select “Yes” to restart the computer for the 5.
setup to take effect.

To verify successful installation on Windows 2000:
From the main desktop, double-click on My Computer, then double- 1.
click on Control Panel, System, and Device Manager.
Double-click on either Ports (COM & LPT) or Serial port device options. 2.
PCI I/O Board should be displayed when successfully installed. The
port is ready to connect new device.
Windows XP Driver Installation
At the Add New Hardware Wizard window, click on “Next.”1.

Insert the drivers CD into your CD-ROM.1.
Click on “Locate and install driver software (recommended).”2.
Install the software from the disc included with your PCI Serial Port and 3.
then click “Next.”
A notification will appear informing you that Windows has encountered 4.
a problem installing the driver software for your device. Click “close” to
continue.
Install the software from the disc included with your 16C95x Serial Port 5.
and then click “Next.”

A notification will appear informing you that Windows has encountered 6.
a problem installing the driver software for your device. Click “close” to
continue.
Click the “Device Manager” click on “Device Manager” to either Ports 7.
(COM & LPT) device options. 16C95x Serial Port should be displayed
when successfully installed. The port is ready to connect new device.
