Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a StarTech.com combination USB 2.0/IEEE-1394a external drive enclosure for 2.5” IDE hard drives. The USB 2.0 port provides up to 480 Mbits/sec of data transfer. Using the FireWire port, you get data transfer rates of up to 400 Mbits/sec. The IDECASE25U2F supports both FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces. A fast and easy way to store data for both desktop and laptop computers, the portable IDECASE25U2F is perfect for users who want maximum storage in minimum space.

Before You Begin
To ensure a quick and easy installation, please read through this section carefully before attempting to use the external drive case.
WARNING! Hard drives, like all computer equipment, can be severely damaged by static electricity. Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your external case or touching your drive. StarTech.com recommends that you wear an anti-static strap when installing any computer component. If an anti-static strap is unavailable, discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a large grounded metal surface (such as the computer case) for several seconds.

•1 x combination IEEE-1394 and USB 2.0 external drive case for 2.5” drives
•1 x USB 2.0 cable (Type A to Type Mini-B)
•1 x IEEE-1394 cable (6 pin to 6 pin)
•1 x PS/2 bypass power adapter
•1 x vinyl pouch
Installation
This section will guide you through the installation of your external storage enclosure. Please read through the instructions carefully and complete each step in the order listed.
Note: Your hard drive should be set to Master mode. Check with your hard drive manufacturer for details.
1. Turn your hard drive case upside down and remove the four screws from the bottom of the drive case. Remove the cover..
2. Remove the two screws that hold the green circuit board in place.
3. Gently place your hard drive into the case and connect it to the IDE connector on the circuit board. Pin 1 on the circuit board is marked by a square solder on the reverse of the board.
4. Line up the holes on the circuit board with the holes on your hard drive. Use four screws to go through the holes in the board into the holes in your hard drive.
5. Screw the board back to the drive case.
6. Snap the bottom of the hard drive case back into place and use the screws to close the drive case.
7. Plug your drive case into your computer using either the FireWire or USB 2.0 port. You can use the PS/2 port for extra power, when required.
You can now access the drive from your computer.
