Introduction
Tired of the hassle and inconvenience of connecting your favorite USB and FireWire device to the back of your PC? Then the StarTech.com 35BAYFWUSB FireWire/USB 3.5” internal bay hub device is the right product for you. It has a unique panel design that allows it to be simply inserted into a front 3.5" bay, giving easy access to four USB and two IEEE 1394 FireWire ports. Up to 127 USB devices (including mouse, keyboard, joystick, camera, scanner, printer etc) and up to 63 FireWire IEEE 1394 devices (including hard drive, DV camera, printer etc) may be connected from the front.

Getting Started
This section is designed to help you prepare the 35BAYFWUSB for installation. Please read through this section carefully before attempting to install the hub.
Unpacking the 35BAYFWUSB
This package should contain: 1 x 2 FireWire 4 USB 3.5 bay front panel hub 1 x IEEE 1394 A type cable 1 x USB A type cable 1 x Y power cable 1 x rear bay bracket 4 x small screws (for panel), 2 x medium screws (for cables) and 1 x large screw (for
attaching rear bracket)
2 x plastic cable holders
Software Requirements
• A PC running Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP
This product is not compatible with Macintosh computers!

Installation
Panel
1. Ensure that your computer is turned off.
2. Remove the computer case and remove a 3.5” front bay cover.
3. Insert the 35BAYFWUSB panel into the empty slot and secure it into place using the 4 small screws provided.
4. Follow the cable connection instructions listed below.

Cable Connection
Caution!!! Please take special care when inserting the cables onto the internal connectors at the back of the panel. It is very important that the instructions below are followed carefully. Incorrect insertion could lead to a device or motherboard short circuit.
Cable Color Diagram
1. Remove one of the brackets from the rear of the computer case. This will allow the cables to be passed through and connected to the rear USB and IEEE 1394 ports.
2. IEEE 1394 cable: Connect the cable to the internal IEEE 1394 connector on the panel. The connector fits on only one way, with the white wire to the right. Pass the cable to the rear of the computer case and out the empty bracket space. Connect it to an IEEE 1394 port on the back of the computer case.
3. USB cable: Connect the cable to the internal USB connector on the panel. The connector fits on only one way, with the red wire to the right. Pass the cable to the rear of the computer case and out the empty bracket space. Connect it to a USB port on the back of the computer case.
4. Y power cable: Connect the cable to the internal power connector on the panel. Be sure that the colored wires of the cable (from left to right) are yellow, black, black and red. Connect one end of the connector to the power supply and the other end can be used to attach another device.
5. Once the cables have been connected and passed through the computer case, put the cables into the cutout slots on the bracket. Insert the bracket using the large screw provided.
6. Once the cables have been connected to their respective rear ports, the cables can be fixed more securely onto the panel by using the supplied screws and plastic cable holders. Place the holder around the cable and fix it to the panel using the medium screws provided.
7. Replace the computer case and turn on the computer.
8. Follow the software instructions as below.

Software Installation
1. After you have turned on the computer, Windows will automatically detect that a Generic USB hub has been added and the Add New Hardware Wizard will appear. Press “Next.”
2. The Add New Hardware Wizard will suggest that it searches for the most suitable driver. Press “Next.”
3. Check the “Location” box C:\WINDOWS\system and press “Next.”
4. Windows will find the best driver for this device and install it automatically. Press “Next.”
5. When the installation is complete, press “Finish.”
6. Attach an IEEE 1394 device to one of the IEEE 1394 ports on the panel. The IEEE 1394 ports can only be installed after an IEEE 1394 device has been connected.
7. Windows will automatically detect that an IEEE 1394 device has been added, and the Add New Hardware Wizard will appear. Press “Next.”
8. The Add New Hardware Wizard will suggest that it searched for the most suitable driver. Press “Next” to agree.
9. Check the “Location” box C:WINDOWS\system and press “Next.”
10. Windows will find the best driver for this device and install it automatically.
Press “Next.”
11.After the installation is complete, press “Finish.”
12. Re-start Windows.
