Installing an output reactor or  lter can
increase motor life and performance in
many applications.
APPLICATION
Variable frequency drives produce voltage spikes that are a function of voltage rise time and length of motor cable. In extreme cases, peak voltages may exceed three times nominal operating voltage. Ideal for use with PENTEK PPC3 and PPC5 Pump Controllers.
A reactor is a resistance and inductance device that reduces the voltage spikes. This is accomplished both by increasing the voltage rise time as well as by improving the impedance match of the motor and cable.
A  lter combines a reactor with a capacitor network. The capacitor network absorbs a portion of the voltage spike, further reducing the peak voltage seen by the motor.

WHEN TO USE A REACTOR AND FILTER
The chart below will provide some guidelines as to when to use a reactor or  lter. Careful considerations should be given when:
Long motor lead lengths are used
Using NEMA standard, premium efficiency, submersible motors
Quality and age of the motor are unknown
Using a submersible motor over 230V
The cost of replacing the motor is prohibitive
Consistency of environment and/or power quality is unknown
