Safety Information and Warnings 100TS
Safety Information
STANLEY tow behind mowers are designed to give
safe and dependable service if operated according
to instructions. Read and understand this owner's
manual before operating your mower.
Emission Control System Information
The U.S. and California Clean Air Acts
EPA and California regulations require all
manufacturers to furnish written instructions
describing the operation and maintenance of
emission control systems. The following instructions
and procedures must be followed in order to keep
the emissions from your engine within the emission
standards.
Safety Label Locations
Safety labels are located on your mower to warn
you of potential hazards. Read them carefully. If a
label comes off or becomes hard to read, contact
your GXi Parts & Service, LLCfor a replacement.
Operator Responsibility
Be sure that anyone who operates the mower
receives proper instruction. Know howto stop the
mower quickly in case of emergency. Understand
the use of all controls and components. Children
should not operate the mower without parental
supervision.
Mower Inspection
For your safety, inspect the lawn mower before each
use. Before you begin your inspection, be sure the
following conditions are met: the lawn mower should
be on a flat and level surface, with the ignition switch
off, the key removed, and the blades disengaged. Also,
disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs
and ground them against the engine to prevent
inadvertent starting.
1. Walk around the mower and look for any fluid
spills or leaks on or underneath the mower.
Remove any and all excessive debris, dirt, and
fluids.
2. Look for signs of damage or excessive wear.
Check the tightness of all nuts, bolts, pins, and
screws. Tighten any that may be loose and
replace any that are missing.
3. Be sure the remote shut-down switch works
correctly.
4. Check the mower blades for any damage or
abnormal wear. Replace in sets so that they are
balanced.
5. Check the tire pressure on all four tires. Do not
exceed the recommended maximum indicated
on the tire.
6. Check the belts for proper wear and correct
tension. See page 19 for instructions.
7. Check engine oil and air filters as recommended
in the engine manufacturer's manual.
WARNING! Do not use your STANLEY mower to carry
passengers. Keep bystanders, helpers, pets and
children at a safe distance from the machine while it is
in operation since rotating blades can throw rocks and
other items, causing serious injury. Check the area
before you begin mowing for stones, sticks, wire, and
other foreign objects. These objects may become
projectiles when struck by the mower.
WARNING! Wear protective clothing while mowing.
Long pants and safety glasses help reduce the risk of
injury from thrown objects. Adequate footwear, such as
steel toe shoes with aggressive soles, is recommended
to help protect your feet and maintain traction on slopes
or uneven grounds. Always wear hearing protection.

_DANGER IA
I
DANGER! GASOLINE IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND
EXPLOSIVE. Do not add fuel while the engine is
running or is hot. Keep open flames, sparks, and heat
away from the fuel and store fuel in containers
specifically designed for that purpose. ADD FUEL
OUTDOORS ONLY AND IF THE FUEL IS SPILLED, DO
NOT START THE ENGINE. Manually push the mower
away from the spill and wipe up immediately.

Operation Safety Precautions 100TS
Equipment Operation--Safety Precautions
1. Do not operate the engine in a confined space
where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can
collect. Carbon monoxide isodorless,
tasteless, and can be fatal.
2. Mow only in daylight.
3. Make sure the mower is parked on a level
surface. The mower should either be
connected to a towing vehicle or the wheels
should be chocked. Make certain the blades
are disengaged before attempting to start the
engine.
4. Be extremely careful when operating the
mower on a slope or when the grass is damp
or wet. Reduced traction could cause sliding.
Never mow close to ditches as the implement
could slip dragging the towing vehicle and
operator in with it.
5. Do not stop or start suddenly when going
uphill. Use extreme caution when changing
directions while operating on a slope.
6. Avoid steeps slopes.
7. Watch for pedestrian or vehicular traffic when
moving the mower while not in use (i.e., loading,
unloading or transporting).
8. Never operate the mower with defective guards
or shields, or without the safety devices
securely mounted in place.
9. Never direct discharge of material toward
bystanders nor allow anyone near the mower
during operation.
10. Do not change the governor settings or over
speed the engine.
11. Always stop the engine when you leave the
towing vehicle, even for a moment.
12. To help reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine
and the area around the engine free of grass,
leaves or any other type of foreign material.
13. Beware of cutting edges. Always wear gloves
for safety when performing blade maintenance
activities. Beware of multiple blade units since
the rotation of one blade may cause the rotation
of the other blade(s).
14. Do not operate without blade baffles or guards
in place.

Step 6: Engine Connections
1. Check the wiring harness
connections to make
certain all connections are
secure from the key
switch to the engine plug.
.
Route the smaller, white, 2-pin
connector through a hole in the
chassis and connect itto the
blade activation safety switch
2-pin connector.
.
Connect the larger, 5-pin
connector to the mating
connector atthe rear of the
engine.
.
Connect the black wire to
a ground lug located on
the back or side of the
engine.
.
If equipped, attach the
yellow wire to the bottom
of the starter motor solenoid on the engine, with
the positive (red) battery cable.
Attach the positive (red) and ground (black) battery
terminal wires to the battery to provide power to the
electric starter. Note: Battery ground should be to the
engine block.
.
Verify that the throttle and choke connections
allow full travel of both levers on the control
panel. If adjustments are needed, see connection
instructions in the Engine
Owner's Manual.
.
Inspect ALL fuel lines and
fuel line connections from
the tank to the engine.
Step 7: Remote Shut-Down Switch
The most important safety system
on your STANLEY tow behind
mower is the operator. The mower
is equipped with a remote shut-
down switch. Connect this switch
harness to the mower under the
control panel. Use the provided
wire ties to secure the switch
within easy reach of the towing
vehicle operator during mower
operation.
The operator is responsible to be
aware of the surroundings, focus on
safe operation of the mower and be prepared to shut the
engine down immediately, if necessary.
Use the remote shut-down switch to stop the blades if any
emergency situation or serious operating issue arises. The
following are examples of occurrences when the shut-down
switch should be used:
• Any unusual noise or excessive vibration coming from
the mower. Unexpected noise or vibration are usually a
sign of an oncoming problem.
• Any person, child, animal, or personal property is in the
mowing area.
• The mower begins to slide down a slope or into a ditch.
• The mower becomes jack-knifed during towing.
• There is a loss of braking power on the towing vehicle.
• The towing vehicle or the mower becomes stuck in mud
or any other obstacle.
• If any part of the mower becomes entangled in any type
of obstacle.
If there is a situation you are uncertain is safe, D0 NOT
attempt operating the mower in the area.
ALWAYS inspect the area to be mowed for any stones,
sticks, wire, and other foreign objects. These objects may
become projectiles that can cause serious injury and/or
death when struck by the mower.

Mowing in Reverse
1. ALWAYS watch where you are going, and make
certain the area is clear before backing up.
2. Back up slowly and carefully. Do not allow the
mower to jackknife.
3. If the hitch is in an offset configuration, use
EXTREME CAUTION in reverse to prevent jack-
knifing.
NEVER BACK THE MOWER TOWARDS DITCHES OR
OVERRIDGES ONTO SLOPES.THE WEIGHT OFTHE
MOWER CAN PULL YOUAND YOURTOWING VEHICLE
INTO A DITCH ORDOWN A HILL CAUSING SERIOUS
INJURY ORDEATH.
NOTE: Be sure to add fresh unleaded gasoline and fill
the engine with manufacturers recommended motor oil
before starting your mower.
, Make sure the shut off
valve, located at the
bottom of the tank, is in
the ON position.
2. Make sure the blade
control lever is in the OFFposition. NOTE:The
safety interlock system prevents the engine from
being started if the blade control lever is not in the
OFFposition.
3. Pull CHOKE if necessary.
4. Turn the key clockwise to the START position and
allow itto return to the ON position when the
engine starts.
5. When the engine starts to run and the key returns
to the ON position, push CHOKEoff.
Stopping the Mower
To stop your STANLEY mower, turn the remote toggle
switch to the OFFposition or turn the mower off atthe
main control panel on the back corner of the chassis.
Make certain the blades are turned to the OFFposition
before attempting the restart. Note: The key must be in
the OFFposition, even if the remote shut-down switch is
on OFF,to prevent drain on the battery.
Executing Turns with the Tow Behind Mower
1. ALWAYS reduce speed to make turns of any kind.
2. The turning radius of your STANLEY mower is
limited by the design of the towing vehicle. The
hitch can come into contact with the towing vehicle
during turns, and the radius of the turn must be
limited to prevent this contact.
3. Use EXTREMECAUTION when executing turns on
hills and slopes.
4. Tow behind models equipped with wing mowers
can potentially execute a zero turn about the tip of
one of the wings. Use EXTREME CAUTION due to
the potential to for the mower to jack-knife.
Braking distances for the towing vehicle will be
increased because of the weight of the Tow Behind
mower. Use caution until you are comfortable with the
abilities of the towing vehicle to stop the mower.

Connecting the Tow Behind Mower to a Vehicle
1. Refer to the vehicle owner's manual for
recommendations and proper connections to the
vehicle used to tow the mower. Make certain the
vehicle can handle towing attachments. Note:
Some vehicles require a strengthened draw bar to
tow your STANLEYtow behind
mower.
.
Back the vehicle straight in line
with the mower hitch. Note: You
may pull the offset selection pin at
the connecting point to gain some
flexibility while connecting the
mower, but that pin must be
returned before towing the mower.
3. Place the vehicle in park, remove the wheel chocks,
and followthe remaining procedures for mowing
grass.
NEVER STOP THE MOWER ON SLOPES OR
INCLINES. THEWEI6HT OF THE MOWER CAN PULL
THE VEHICLE WITH IT DOWN HILLS OR RAMPS.

pin from the hitch
connection end closest to
the STANLEY tow behind
mower. Swing the hitch in
the opposite direction of
the desired offset, and
insert the pin in the hole
for the desired offset angle.
.
Pull the offset selection pin from the hitch closest to
the vehicle connection end. Rotate the hitch to the
hole corresponding the angle used in Step 1,and
return the pin.
.
For more offset,
remove the two hitch
retaining pins, shift the
hitch assembly to the
hitch connecting
position on either side
of the tow behind
mower frame and
reinsert the pins.
.
If even more offset is
necessary, fasten the offset
extension tube to the frame
of the tow behind mower so
it overhangs away from the
main deck. Attach the hitch
to the connection holes in
the offset extension tube.
Towing the Tow Behind Mower Offset to One Side
Your STANLEYtow behind mower has three (3) hitch
connecting positions on the frame of the mower so the
mower can be pulled offset to either side of the towing
vehicle. In any of these three (3) connecting positions,
the mower offset can be increased using the offset
hitch.
If the towing vehicle is a lawn mower, the offset allows
the lawn mower and your STANLEY tow behind mower
to engage uncut grass, greatly increasing the total
cutting width. Offset your STANLEY tow behind
mower to the side opposite the discharge chute of
the lawn mower so the discharged grass from the
lawn mower does not overload the mower. If the
lawn mower is in a mulching configuration, your
STANLEY tow behind mower can be offset to either
side.

General Maintenance 100TS
The Importance of Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure your
mower continues to deliver safe and high-quality
performance.
To help you properly care for your mower, the
following pages include a recommended maintenance
schedule, routine inspection procedures, and simple
maintenance procedures using basic hand tools.
Maintenance is the responsibility of the owner and
must be performed regularly. More difficult service
tasks or tasks that require special tools are best
handled by a recommended service technician or
other qualified mechanic.
The maintenance schedule described on page 15
applies to mowers used under normal operating
conditions. If you operate your mower under severe
conditions, such as sustained prolonged use or high-
temperature operations, or use it in unusually wet,
dusty or rocky conditions, consult your servicing
dealer for recommendations applicable to your
individual needs and use.
Be sure to use genuine STANLEY mower replacement
parts when servicing your mower to assure the best
quality, safety and performance for your mower.

Fuel
I DANGER
DANGER! Gasoline is highly flammable and
explosive. Do not add fuel while the engine is
running or is hot. Keep open flames, sparks, and
heat away from the fuel and store fuel in containers
specifically designed for that purpose. Add fuel
outdoors only and if the fuel is spilled, do not start
the engine. Manually push the mower away from the
spill and wipe up immediately.
Refer to the Engine Owner's Manual for the type of fuel
to use.
A fuel shut off valve is located on
the bottom of the fuel tank. It is
recommended that the fuel be shut
off when transporting between job
sites and when storing the mower
for the extended periods of time.
Engine Oil
CHECKENGINE 01L BEFOREEACH USE. Refer to the
Engine Owner's Manual for the type of oil to use, oil
change intervals, and the proper procedures to check
and change oil.
Blades
I CAUTION I
CAUTION! Always wear work gloves when performing
blade maintenance and beware ofthe cutting edges.
Be sure the engine is off, the key removed, and the
spark plugwires are disconnected from the spark
plugs to prevent inadvertent starting.
If adjustment or maintenance is being performed after
operation of the mower, allowthe unit to cool since
heat build up could cause severe burns.
Tire Pressure
Incorrect tire pressure may cause the mower to pull to
one side and/or result in uneven cut. Always use
caution when filling the tires. NEVERexceed the
recommended tire pressure.
Air Filter
Refer to the Engine Owner's Manual for the
recommended maintenance.

Inspect blades on a daily basis for nicks, bends, and
excessive wear. If the blades are worn, cracked, bent,
or damaged, replace them before using the mower.
Choose genuine STANLEY mower replacement blades
to ensure quality and performance. (See page 13for
blade removal instructions.)
When sharpening the blades, sharpen onlythe cutting
edges and try to maintain the original angle of the blade.
Do not make the cutting edge razor sharp. Remove the
same amount from each side of the blade so that
balance in maintained.

Safety System
The most important safety system on a tow behind mower is the operator. Your STANLEY tow behind mower is
equipped with a remote shut-down switch. The operator is responsible to be aware of the surroundings, focus on safe
operation of the mower and be prepared to shut the engine down immediately, if necessary.
Use the remote shut-down switch to stop the blades if:
• Any unusual noise or excessive vibration coming from the mower. Unexpected noise or vibration are usually a sign of
an oncoming problem.
• Any person, child, animal, or personal property is in the mowing area.
• The mower begins to slide down a slope or into a ditch.
• The mower becomes jack-knifed during towing.
• There is a loss of braking power on the towing vehicle.
• The towing vehicle or the mower becomes stuck in mud or any other obstacle.
• If any part of the mower becomes entangled in any type of obstacle.
If there is a situation you are uncertain is safe, D0 NOT attempt operating the STANLEY tow behind mower inthe area.
ALWAYS inspect the area to be mowed for any stones, sticks, wire, and other foreign objects. These objects may
become projectiles that can cause serious injury and/or death when struck bythe mower.

Lubrication Points 100TS
To ensure proper lubrication of moving parts, GXi recommends that you lubricate the following components with a high-
quality, EP2 high-temperature-based grease or equivalent. Should the conditions of operation be more severe than
normal, the lubrication interval may need to be shortened. GTR/0PE grease is the recommended lubricant.
Lubrication Point Locations
Your STANLEYtow behind mower had fourteen (14)
lubrication points.
Lubricate after every 50 hours of usage
1. Front wheels (4 locations, 1 on each
wheel shaft and 1on each wheel axle
2. Rearwheels (2 locations, 1 each wheel
axle)
.
Spindles (4 locations). Note: The
lower spindle bearing is sealed
on the bottom and open on the
top. The upper spindle bearing is
sealed on both sides. Failure to
frequently replenish grease will
cause premature lower bearing
failure. Frequent application of grease to this bearing is
critical to achieving long spindle life in harsh duty
environments.
