STLink Upgrade User Guide
Introduction
The ST-LINK is an in-circuit debugger and programmer for the STM8 and STM32
microcontroller families.The SWIM and JTAG/SWD interface is used to communicate with the
STM8 or STM32 microcontroller located on your own application board.
On the PC side, the USB full speed interface is used to communicate with:
ST Visual Develop (STVD) and ST Visual Program (STVP) : these are the software from
STMicroelectronic's for the STM8,
ATOLLIC, IAR and KEIL: these are 3rd party softwares for the STM32 (to get information
or support on these IDEs please contact the 3rd party directly)

How to upgrade STLink
The 1st step is to upgrade STLink is to run the program ST-LinkUpgrade.exe provided
into the Package. You will see the following screen
Connect the STLink via USB to your computer only, no need to connect the STLink to a
target board. Then click on the “device connect” button.
If your debugger is properly connected on you PC, but you get the message, below, then
your device does not support firmware upgrade.

If your device supports firmware upgrade, the application will successfully connect to the
STLink. It will display the current firmware version of your device and the version to
download as shown below :
Then you just need to click “Yes >>>>” to start the upgrade process.
Once the update is completed you will see an “upgrade is successful” dialog box

When you click OK, the “ST-Link Upgrade” application will check the Firmware
version :
