AX/4000
IP (Layer 3) Gigabit Ethernet SFP Interface
Product Overview
The AX/4000 IP Gigabit Ethernet SFP Interface allows users to connect their mAX or mAX-IP test module to a Gigabit Ethernet for Layer 3 IP testing.
AX/4000 Installation
The interface plugs into the mating connectors on the mAX or mAX-IP test module. Two screws firmly attach the faceplate to the front of the AX/4000 Mainframe or XLP Portable Chassis. The test module supplies power to the port interface.
LED Indicator
The faceplate has eight LED indicators. Refer to the faceplate photo for a description of each LED.
Software Control
The port interface may be controlled via the AX/4000 System Software running on a Microsoft Windows-based PC or a Sun Solaris-based workstation. Users can also control the interface using the AX/4000 Tcl/C Function Library Software package. See the other side of this sheet for a list of software-controlled interface functions.
Setup
The interface’s operation mode determines the data path for AX/4000 generated and analyzed traffic. In Normal Mode the AX/4000 generates outgoing traffic to the transmit port and analyzes incoming traffic from the receive port. In Line Monitor Mode the port analyzes
oming traffic and transmits the same traffic back out
inc through the transmit connector with no modifications. In Diagnostic Loopback Mode the interface provides an

ernal transmit-to-receive loopback path to analyze
int AX/4000 generated traffic without requiring an external loopback cable.
ation
Oper
The Gigabit Ethernet SFP Interface module supports 19 interface-specific counters such as transmitted and received broadcast and unicast frames. The full interfacespecific counter set is detailed in the Indicators and Statistics section of the data sheet. A different set of statistics is also maintained by the mAX and mAX-IP test module.
