Installation Instruction and Torque Requirements For Axle Housing Hardware Kit – Thick Flange Design Carriers

Shown below are the torque and installation information for the axle housing hardware parts included in this kit. These parts and procedures are specific to the models listed below. The capscrews are designed for use on carriers designed with “Thick Mounting Flange”.

AXLE HOUSING HARDWARE KIT - USE WITH THICK FLANGE CARRIERS ONLY. Dana Models: 23105, 26105, 30105S/D

Installation Instructions:

1. Block vehicle tires and disconnect driveline

2. Drain lube and remove axle shafts

3. Remove old carrier fasteners and carrier assembly.

4. Before installing the carrier assembly or new fastener hardware, the axle housing should be visually inspected for cracks, nicks or burrs on all machined surfaces. Clean the threaded boltholes in the axle housing, removing any paint, old sealant or oil from the housing and carrier mounting surfaces.

5. Apply a bead of approved RTV sealant (supplied in service kit) to the housing surface. It is important to apply the sealant around (make a loop) all of the threaded boltholes. Reinstall the carrier assembly.

6. Install new fasteners supplied in kit.

7. Torque the capscrew or nut to the correct specification listed in the chart below.

Important! Dana does not recommend mixing old and new carrier fasteners on the same carrier. If reusing old fasteners, use Loctite® 277

or 271 (which is red in color) on the threads of the old fastener and torque to correct specification. Final torque values of hardware fasteners must be measured using a calibrated torque wrench.
