Tire Pressure Control System AX-296
Component Repair Procedure
Pneumatic Control Unit - Solenoid Cover Replacement Kit 218733
The following procedures describe the necessary work required for removal and replacement of the Dana Tire Pressure
Control System Pneumatic Control Unit (PCU) solenoid cover. Work can be conducted with pneumatic control unit
installed in vehicle if accessible. If removal of unit is required, follow removal procedures in Dana TPCS Service
Manual (AXSM-0010).
1. If pneumatic control unit is installed in vehicle, remove 10 wire and 3 wire electrical connectors from unit.
2. Remove 6 solenoid cover screws (3c) and 4 trailer module solenoid cover screws, if 3 channel system (7c).
3. Lift solenoid cover (3a) and trailer module cover (7a) together to clear solenoids.
4. To remove wires from cover, use small screw driver or object such as paper clip to push on tab within electrical
pin while pulling on wire. See detail reverse side. Remove all wires from cover.
5. Install new gasket provided on new solenoid cover by removing adhesive cover and “sticking” to base of
cover.
6. Install wires into new solenoid cover per wiring schematic on reverse side. Verify that each pin “snaps” into
cover and does not easily pull out. If pin does not snap into cover, bend tab on pin and reinsert. Note: If unit
has trailer module, ensure that 2 wires from trailer solenoid are routed through hole in solenoid cover prior to
clipping into position.
7. Carefully tuck solenoid wires in area between transducer and solenoids while reinstalling the solenoid covers.
Note: lt is necessary to install both covers at the same time.
8. Carefully tighten cover screws ensuring that wires are not pinched between cover and body. Torque spec = 40
to 50 in-lb.
9. Reinstall pneumatic control unit in vehicle or reinstall electrical connectors to solenoid cover if unit is already
in vehicle.
10. Conduct system checkout to verify integrity of repairs. NOTE: If service codes indicating electrical faults (i.e.
SC, 8C...) are evident after cover replacement and trouble shooting procedures indicate no shorted wires:
verify proper fitup of harness connectors.
