Dana Aftermarket Groups is announcing the discontinuation of threaded bearing cups and cones and the
corresponding bearing kits for select axle model carriers and the introduction of new kits to service the
same select models.
Affected Models: First Generation D/R/S170, D/R/S190 & D/R/S590 made before June 10, 2013.

Repairing First Generation D/R/S170, D/R/S190 & D/R/S590 made before June 10 2013, requires
upgrading the diff bearings, adjusters and diff case components to those used in the current, second
generation D/R/S170, D/R/S190 & D/R/S590 carriers.

Upgrading older carriers to the more durable, and service-friendly three-piece adjuster-cup-cone
eliminates the potential of failure to the welded-on adjuster rings. When replacing the highlighted items
(as shown below) you essentially have upgraded the carriers to the current production design.
Note: The replacement parts included in all “Bearing Retrofit” kits or “Complete Diff Case & Bearing
Retrofit” kits must be used together when retrofitting the carrier. Failure to replace any of the older design
parts or install the required thrust washers to the wheel diff when rebuilding the carrier could lead to
reassembly issues or a non- working carrier or premature carrier failure.
To support the repair and upgrade of the first-generation carriers, we are pleased to announce the
release of new COMPLETE kits that contain all the necessary bearings, hardware, thrust washers, shift
fork, and clutches along with the proper diff cases to perform a complete rebuild.
