Important Safety Instructions
Save These Instructions
1. Read all instructions before using the unit.
2. Refer to the GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS in the INSTALLATION manual for the proper grounding of the unit.
3. Do not wash or dry articles that have been previously cleaned in, washed in, soaked in, or spotted with gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances as they give off vapors that could ignite or explode.
4. Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a hot water system that has not been used for two weeks or more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot water system has not been used for such a period, before using a washing machine or combination washer-dryer, turn on all hot water faucets and let the water flow from each for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. The gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.
5. Do not allow children to play on or in the unit. Close supervision of children is necessary when the unit is used near children. This is a safety rule for all appliances.
6. Before the unit is removed from service or discarded, remove the doors to the washing and drying compartments.

Safety Information
7. Do not reach into the washer or dryer if the cylinders are revolving.
8. Do not install or store the unit where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.
9. Do not tamper with the controls.
10. Do not repair or replace any part of the unit, or attempt any servicing unless specifically recommended in the User-Maintenance instructions or in published user-repair instructions that you understand and have the skills to carry out.
11. Do not add gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances to the wash water. These substances give off vapors that could ignite or explode.
12. Do not use fabric softeners or products to eliminate static unless recommended by the manufacturer of the fabric softener or product.
13. To reduce the risk of an electric shock or fire, DO NOT use an adapter to connect the unit to the electrical power source.
14. To reduce the risk of fire, DO NOT DRY plastics or articles containing foam rubber or similarly textured rubberlike materials.
15. ALWAYS clean the lint filter after every load. A layer of lint in the filter reduces drying efficiency and prolongs drying time.
16. Keep area around the exhaust opening and adjacent surrounding area free from the accumulation of lint, dust and dirt.
17. The interior of the dryer and the exhaust duct should be cleaned periodically by qualified service personnel.
18. If not installed, operated and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions or if there is damage to or mishandling of this product’s components, use of this product could expose you to substances in the fuel or from fuel combustion which can cause death or serious illness and which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
19. Washer and dryer will not operate with the loading door open. DO NOT bypass the door safety switches by permitting the washer or dryer to operate with the doors open. The washer and dryer will stop tumbling when the doors are opened. Do not use the washer or dryer if they do not stop tumbling when the doors are opened or start tumbling without pressing the START mechanisms. Remove the unit from use and call the service person.
20. Do not put articles soiled with vegetable or cooking oil in the washer or dryer. Due to the oil, the fabric may catch on fire by itself.
21. To reduce the risk of fire, DO NOT put clothes which have traces of any flammable substances such as machine oil, flammable chemicals, thinner, etc., or anything containing wax or chemicals such as in mops and cleaning cloths, or anything dry-cleaned at home with a drycleaning solvent in the dryer.
22. Use your washer only for its intended purpose, washing clothes.
23. Use the dryer only for its intended purpose, drying clothes.
24. Always disconnect the electrical power to the washer and dryer before attempting service to either unit. Disconnect the power cords by grasping the plug, not the cord.
25. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a special cord or assembly available from the manufacturer or its service agent.
26. Install this unit according to the INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. All connections for electrical power, grounding and gas supply must comply with local codes and be made by licensed personnel when required. Do not do it yourself unless you know how!

Installing the Unit
Step 1: Position Unit Near Installation Area
Move unit so that it is within 4 feet (1.2 meters) of the desired area of installation.
NOTE: For best performance and to minimize vibration or movement, install unit on a solid, sturdy and level floor. Some floors may need to be reinforced, especially on a second floor or over a basement. DO NOT install the unit on carpeting, soft tile, pedestal, a platform or other weakly supported structures.
Water pressure must be a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 120 pounds per square inch (138 to 827 kPa) static pressure measured at the faucet.
NOTE: Water pressure under 20 pounds per square inch (138 kPa) will cause an extended fill time in the washer and may not properly flush out the detergent dispenser.
Turn on the water faucets and flush the lines for approximately two minutes to remove any foreign material that could clog the screens in the water mixing valve.
Step 2: Connect Fill Hoses
Water Supply
Water supply faucets must fit standard 3/4 inch (19.1 mm) female garden hose couplings. DO NOT USE SLIP-ON OR CLAMP-ON CONNECTIONS.
Water supply faucets should be readily accessible to permit turning them off when washer is not being used.
Recommended cold water temperature is 60 80 maximum hot water temperature is 125 (51 water. Warm water temperature is dependent upon water temperature and pressure of both the hot and cold water supply lines.

IMPORTANT: Hoses and other natural rubber parts deteriorate after extended use. Hoses may develop cracks, blisters or material wear from the temperature and constant high pressure they are subject to.
All hoses should be checked on a monthly basis for any visible signs of deterioration. Any hose showing the signs of deterioration listed above should be replaced immediately. All hoses should be replaced every five years.
Figure 3
IMPORTANT: Turn off water supply faucets after checkout and demonstration. Turn off water supply whenever there will be an extended period of nonuse.
NOTE: Longer fill hoses are available (as optional equipment at extra cost) if the hoses (supplied with the washer) are not long enough for the installation. Order hoses as follows:
No. 20617 Fill Hose (8 feet) (2.44 m) No. 20618 Fill Hose (10 feet) (3.05 m)
Risers
Risers (or air cushions) may have to be installed if the pipes knock or pound when flow of water stops. The risers are more efficient when installed as close as possible to the water supply faucets (refer to Figure 4).

Step 3: (Non-Gravity Drain Models Only) Connect Drain Hose to Drain Receptacle
Remove the drain hose from its shipping position on the rear of the washer by removing the shipping tape.
IMPORTANT: Drain receptacle must be capable of handling a minimum of 1 3/8 inch (3.5 cm) outside diameter drain hose.
Standpipe Installation:
Place the drain hose into the standpipe.
Remove the beaded strap from accessories bag and place around standpipe and drain hose and tighten strap to hold hose to standpipe. Refer to Figure 5. This will prevent the drain hose from dislodging from drain receptacle during use.
Step 4: (Gravity Drain Models Only) Connect Drain Outlet to Drain System
Remove drain fitting (four inches long) and hose clamp from accessories bag. Insert drain fitting into drain outlet hose. Clamp hose and fitting.
Connect the drain fitting to a vented drain system using a flexible connection (obtain locally). Inside diameter of fitting is 1.53 in. (3.89 cm) and outside diameter is 1.66 in. (4.22 cm). The drain system must be vented to prevent an air lock or siphoning.
IMPORTANT: Increasing the drain hose length, installing elbows, or causing bends will decrease drain flow rates and increase drain times, impairing machine performance.

Locate dryer so exhaust duct is as short as
possible.
Be certain old ducts are cleaned before installing
your new dryer.
Use 4 inch (102 mm) diameter rigid or flexible
metal duct.
The male end of each section of duct must point
away from the dryer.
Use as few elbows as possible.
Use duct tape or pop-rivets on all duct joints. DO
NOT use sheet metal screws or fasteners on exhaust pipe joints which extend into the duct and catch lint.
Ductwork that runs through unheated areas must
be insulated to help reduce condensation and lint build-up on pipe walls.
Install backdraft dampers in multi-dryer
installations.
In mobile home installations, dryer exhaust duct
must be secured to mobile home structure.
Dryer exhaust duct MUST NOT terminate under
mobile home.
802957

Installation
Dryer exhausts 220 cfm (measured at back of
dryer).
DO NOT install flexible duct in concealed
spaces, such as a wall or ceiling.
Static pressure in exhaust duct should not be
greater than .6 inches water column (1.5 cm), measured with manometer placed on exhaust duct two feet (61 cm) from dryer (check with dryer running and no load). In multi-dryer installations, all dryers connected to the main collector duct should be operating when pressure is checked.
Exhausting dryer in hard-to-reach locations can
be done by installing 521P3 Flexible Metal Vent Kit (available as optional equipment at extra cost).
Sufficient make-up air must be supplied to
replace the air exhausted by the dryer. The free area of any opening for outside air must be at
2
least 40 in
(260 cm2).
Energy efficient buildings with low air
infiltration rates should be equipped with an air exchanger that can accommodate on demand make-up air needs in the laundry room. These devices can be obtained through your building contractor or building material suppliers.
Do not draw make-up air from a room containing
a gas fired water heater, a dry cleaner or a hair salon.
Failure to exhaust dryer properly will void
warranty.
NOTE: Venting materials are not supplied with the dryer (obtain locally).
IMPORTANT: DO NOT block the airflow at the bottom of the dryer’s front panel with laundry, rugs, etc. Blockage will decrease airflow through the dryer, thus reducing the efficiency of the dryer.

Maintenance
User-Maintenance Instructions
Lubrication
All moving parts are sealed in a permanent supply of lubricant or are equipped with oilless bearings. Additional lubrication will not be necessary.
Cold Weather Care
If the unit is delivered on a cold day (below freezing), or is stored in an unheated room or area during the cold months, do not attempt to operate it until the washer has had a chance to warm up.
Vacations and Extended Non-Use
IMPORTANT: To avoid possible property damage due to flooding, turn off the water supply to the washer whenever there will be an extended period of non-use.
Leave the loading door open during extended periods of non-use to allow the wash drum to dry out and avoid a musty smell.
Care of Your Washer
Use only a damp or sudsy cloth for cleaning the control panel. Some cleaning product sprays may harm the finish on the control panel or damage the interior.
Wipe the washer cabinet as needed. If detergent, bleach or other washing products are spilled on the cabinet, wipe immediately. Some products will cause permanent damage if spilled on the cabinet.
Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleansers.
The wash drum will need no particular care although it may need rinsing or wiping after an unusual load has been washed.
The outside of the door window can be cleaned with household window cleaner.
Running an occasional rinse cycle with bleach will help to avoid a musty smell in the wash drum.
Cleaning Glass Sealing Area
In order to assure that the door properly seals against water leaks, the following surfaces should be wiped off periodically:
The outside perimeter of the door glass where the
seal contacts the glass.
Usually a mild soap solution will work. If there is an extreme build-up of minerals from a hard water supply, the surfaces may need to be cleaned with a lime removal chemical.
Replacing Hoses
Hoses and other natural rubber parts deteriorate after extended use. Hoses may develop cracks, blisters or material wear from the temperature and constant high pressure they are subjected to.
All hoses should be checked on a monthly basis for any visible signs of deterioration. Any hose showing the signs of deterioration listed above should be replaced immediately. All hoses should be replaced every five years.
Cleaning Foreign Object Trap
The washer’s pump has a trap that may collect foreign objects. The trap may need to be cleaned if water is draining slower than usual. To clean:
Disconnect washer from electrical supply.
While supporting the front access panel, remove
two screws from the bottom edge of the panel.
Gently lower the panel to remove it from the
washer.
NOTE: The pump may have some water in it. Use a rag or a container to catch water. If the wash drum is full of water, use a wet/dry shop vacuum to catch the water.
With rag or vacuum ready, unscrew the cap on
the left side of the pump and remove trap.
Clean the debris from the trap.
Reinstall the trap and access panel.
Reconnect washer to electrical supply.
Filter Screen
Check the filter screens in the fill hoses for debris or damage annually. Clean or replace them if necessary.
If the washer is filling with water slower than normal, check the filter screens. Clean or replace them if necessary.
Order filter screen Part No. F270300 from the nearest authorized parts distributor.
The front surface of the door seal lip.

Care of Your Dryer
Dryer Interior
Wipe the surfaces using a soft cloth and household cleaner or a non-abrasive paste of powdered laundry detergent and hot water, followed by a short heat cycle with a load of rags.
To remove crayon or ball point ink off the dryer drum, put the heat on high and use old rags in the dryer to absorb the crayon or ink. If unsuccessful, contact the appliance dealer. DO NOT use any chemicals in the dryer.
IMPORTANT: The use of chlorine bleach for removing any discolorations should be avoided because bleach could damage the finish.
Cabinet
Wipe the dryer cabinet as needed. If detergent, bleach or other washing products have been spilled on the dryer, wipe immediately. Some products will cause permanent damage if spilled on the cabinet.
Control Panel
Use only a damp or sudsy cloth for cleaning the control panel. Some spray pretreat products may harm the finish on the control panel.
NOTE: The wiring diagram is located inside the control panel.
Exhaust System
The exhaust duct should be inspected after one year of use and cleaned if necessary by a qualified service person to remove any lint build-up. Inspect and clean exhaust duct every one to two years as required thereafter.
The weather hood should be checked frequently to make sure the dampers move freely, dampers are not pushed in and that nothing has been set against them.
Keep dryer area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other flammable vapors and liquids.
Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air.
NOTE: Verify proper operation after servicing.
Lint Filter
CLEAN THE LINT FILTER BEFORE DRYING EACH LOAD. (Refer to Figure 51 for lint filter location.) Cleaning the lint filter is important because a layer or pad of lint on the filter will block the flow of air through the dryer, thus reducing the efficiency of the dryer. The clothes will take longer to dry and energy will be wasted.
The lint filter may be washed if needed. Annually remove lint filter and screw to vacuum the duct under it.

Reinstallation of Shipping Materials
To prevent damage while moving the unit, the shipping materials MUST be reinstalled.
Disconnect washer from electrical supply.
While supporting the front access panel, remove
two screws from the bottom edge of the panel.
Gently lower the panel to remove it from the
washer.
Place the shock sleeves on all four shock
absorbers. Refer to Figure 52.
Insert hooked end of shipping brace into the open
slot of the motor mount.
Attach the brace with the five bolts and washers.
Refer to Figure 52.
Reinstall front access panel.
Motor Overload Protector
The dryer’s motor overload protector stops the motor automatically in the event of an overload. After cooling, the overload protector will reset itself. Dryer can be restarted by pressing the START pad. If overload protector cycles again, remove the dryer from use and call the service person to correct the problem.
For Energy Conservation
Make sure the lint filter is always clean.
Do not overload dryer.
Do not overdry clothes.
Remove items to be ironed while still damp.
Large loads of similar fabrics dry the most
efficiently. However, dry permanent press in smaller loads to prevent wrinkling.
Use the correct temperature FABRIC
SELECTOR setting for the type of fabric being dried.
Locate your dryer so the exhaust duct is as short
and straight as possible.
Do not open the door during the drying cycle.
Plan to do your laundry on low humidity days;
your clothes will dry faster.
Should you plan to dry several loads, do them
one after another, then you do not have to reheat the dryer unit’s interior parts each time.
