Such software products, as well as associated media, printed materials and “online” or electronic documentation (“SOFTWARE”) are protected by copyright laws and international copyright treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties. If you do not agree to this end user license agreement (EULA), do not use the Spectra library; instead, promptly contact Spectra Logic for instructions on return of the Spectra library for a refund. Any use of the Software, including but not limited to use on the Spectra library, will constitute your agreement to this EULA (or ratification of any previous consent). Grant of License. The Software is licensed on a non-exclusive basis, not sold. This EULA grants you the following rights to the Software:
• You may use the Software only on the Spectra library.
Not Fault Tolerant. The Software is not fault tolerant. Spectra Logic has independently determined how to use the Software in the Spectra library, and suppliers have relied upon Spectra Logic to conduct sufficient testing to determine that the Software is suitable for such use.
No Warranties for the SOFTWARE. The Software is provided “AS IS” and with all faults. The entire risk as to satisfactory quality, performance, accuracy, and effort (including lack of negligence) is with you. Also, there is no warranty against interference with your enjoyment of the Software or against infringement. If you have received any warranties regarding the SOFTWARE, those warranties do not originate from, and are not binding on Software suppliers.
Note on Java Support. The Software may contain support for programs written in Java. Java technology is not fault tolerant and is not designed, manufactured, or intended for use of resale as online control equipment in hazardous environments requiring fail-safe performance, such as in the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communications systems, air traffic control, direct life support machines, or weapons systems, in which the failure of Java technology could lead directly to death, personal injury, or severe physical or environmental damage.
No Liability for Certain Damages. Except as prohibited by law, Software suppliers shall have no liability for any indirect, special, consequential or incidental damages arising from or in connection with the use or performance of the Software. This limitation shall apply even if any remedy fails of its essential purpose. 2 Preparing and Rack-Mounting the T24
This chapter review preparation for installing the T24 library, including Items Shipped with the Library, below, and Mounting the Library in the Rack on page 10.
Items Shipped with the Library
The following items are shipped with Spectra T24 libraries:
•One SCSI terminator
•Power cable
•SCSI cable
• Documentation CD
•LAN cable
•This guide
• Rack mount kit
Note that your Spectra T24 library arrives configured according to your order, with 12 or 24 slots and 1 or 2 half-height LTO drives.
Unpacking
Clear a work surface for the T24 components you unpack. Note how items are packaged; if for any reason the T24 needs to be shipped, you must use this packaging and pack the library securely, or the warranty is void.
• Right and left mounting brackets
• Right and left slide assemblies
• Screws (two sizes; use the size appropriate for your rack)
• Torx screwdriver
• Mounting bracket and screws

Removing the Shipping Lock
C
Caution: Remove the shipping lock prior to library power on, or risk damage
to the T24. The shipping lock prevents the robotic transport mechanism from moving during shipment, protecting the robotics from damage.
The shipping lock is located on top of the library, help in place with a label. Remove the label and the shipping lock, and store them on the back panel of the library in case you need to ship the T24.

Mounting the Library in the Rack
Warning: The Spectra 24 weights about 34 lb. / 16 kg. To reduce the risk of
personal injury, obtain adequate assistance when lifting and stabilizing the library.
Caution: Select a rack location that is low enough so that rack will not tip
over if the library is installed (for example, if the rack is empty and you place the library high in the rack, you risk having the rack tip).
Caution: Install the library in a level rack.
1. In a 19-inch rack, attach the rails on either side. Secure the front and back of each rail to
the rack. The rails extend to fit a variety of racks.

4 Items to Have On Hand
This chapter covers items that are helpful to have on hand for the optimal operation of the Spectra T24 library.
Certified Media
Media with a Guarantee
Spectra Logic certifies only the highest quality data cartridges received directly from the manufacturer and provides a lifetime guarantee on all Certified Media. Each order includes five cartridges and a 10-slot storage TeraPack container.
Every Certified Media cartridge and storage TeraPack container is uniquely numbered with pre-applied sequential color bar code labels. The standard Certified Media pack has uniquely sequenced bar code labels; the custom pack has user-specified bar code label sequences. Either way, you will never have to deal with a duplicate bar code problem.
Certified Media from Spectra Logic comes with a guarantee, plain and simple. Spectra Logic’s bar codes carry the same lifetime guarantee that protects each Certified Media cartridge. The Spectra Logic guarantee reduces your risk in data protection.
4. Items to Have On Hand
18
Media Accessories
Cleaning Cartridges
Drive head cleaning is necessary for optimal drive operation. Spectra Logic offers certified cleaning cartridges for Spectra T24 library tape drives, in bar-coded and non-bar-coded formats.
Bar Code Labels
Spectra Logic offers high-contrast, high-resolution labels for reliable operation. Labels can be ordered in standard or custom formats. For bar code label specifications, see the library’s User Guide.
Storage TeraPack Containers
Each storage TeraPack container (Figure 4-1) holds 10 LTO cartridges. These containers are portable and self-contained for easy media handling and stacking, and are compatible with off-site archival facilities such as Iron Mountain. Each storage TeraPack container is bar-coded with a unique label that can be easily and rapidly scanned for the identification and tracking of data.
Iron Mountain Carrying Cases
Spectra Logic offers Certified Media carrying cases (Figure 4-2) for storage TeraPack containers. These cases, built to Iron Mountain specifications, store TeraPack containers for ready storage and transport. The cases are fire-resistant and lightweight, and contain a custom insert to keep storage TeraPack containers secure.
