Compile the Kernel
To successfully install a Gator Architecture library (Spectra 12K, Spectra 20K, or Spectra 64K library) on a Linux server, you must first compile the kernel to handle the Qlogic driver.
1. Run make mrproper prior to running make xconfig. This will give you a clean
starting point.
2. Set the options in xconfig.
• Set SCSI generic support to on.
• Load the qla2xxx driver statically (force it on–not set as a module).
• Set probe all luns on each SCSI target to on.
• Add SCSI tape support (not on by default).
3. Compile the kernel (2.2.14 or newer only).
•Modify /etc/lilo.conf to reflect the new kernel
•Run lilo
• Reboot into your new kernel.
The controller should now be configured and ready to run.
4. Cable the library as normal.
5. Create the partition. Upon a final reboot, the system should find the library and
drives.
6. Install the preferred backup software package.
Install Legato Networker
Installing Legato Networker and Gator library in the Linux/Legato Networker environment requires the following steps:
1. Download the Networker binaries from Legato's Web site, or mount the CD-ROM
and copy the .tgz file to the /networker directory on the local machine.
2. Uncompress and untar the file in the /networker subdirectory.
3. Run the setup.sh shell script.
4. For server installations, install everything. Make sure that you have set the Gator
library’s partition up as either a Spectra 215 (Treefrog or Spectra 2000) or as a Spectra 10K (Bullfrog or Spectra 10000).
5. Run a file called jbconfig.

6. Select Install auto-detected SCSI jukebox. It should show you that the Gator library is configured as either a Spectra 10K or a Spectra 215, depending on how you set up the partition.
7. The script will ask you about device files (/dev/nstX in Linux) for the drives. These are critical, so verify them with mt commands prior to running the script.
8. The script will ask if a bar code reader will be used, how to label tapes, and if auto-clean will be used. These site-specific options and should be set once the script completes.
The library is set up and ready for use.
