Updates to the User Guide
The information presented in this section represents the most up-to-date information
for the RXT product user guides—information that will be added to the user guides in
the next revision.
Note: For the latest version of these release notes, check the electronic
version on the Spectra Logic Web site at
http://www.spectralogic.com/support/docs.cfm.
These release notes include updates to the chapters that describe the following
information in Revision A of the Spectra RXT350 User Guide and Revision C of the
SpectraRXT150 User Guide:
• Achieving Appropriate Transfer Speeds, covered below
• Regulatory and Safety Standards on page 6
• Specifications on page 6
User Interface Change
In the previous RXT releases, the Tools menu item of the RXT Web interface was called
“Diagnostics” and the RXT Utilities screen was named the RXT Diagnostic screen.
Achieving Appropriate Transfer Speeds
The RXT150 is designed to achieve transfer rates of up to 110 MB/sec when configured
as RAID 0 in an optimal environment (that is, with an optimal data source and optimal
performance from the server connected to the RXT150).
Test have shown that speeds up to 110MB/sec are achievable in optimized
environments

Specifications
The RXT150 has been designed to achieve native transfer rates of 110MB/sec with
uncompressed data in optimal environments.
The RAID level on the RXT150, its network configuration, and the use of data
compression will affect the transfer rate of the drive.

Important Information
The information presented here represents the most up-to-date information that
Spectra Logic can provide you to supplement the product user guides and other
printed material.
Running on Solaris 9.0
To run RXT Firmware Version 1.1.0.63 on SUN Solaris 9.0, you must update to the
Solaris 9 Recommended Patch Cluster (177.3M), which is available at:
RXT drives use Ultra-320 SCSI. To avoid problems, ensure that your HBA supports
Ultra-320 SCSI connectivity.
Compression Issues
Data is not compressed if you are using the following combination of products:
• BlueScale Encryption Professional Edition
•RXT
• NetVault and Backup Exec, which don’t accept variable block size
Time Changes
The RXT drive does not automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time; it is up to the
user to manually change the time.
Logging Out of the RXT Web Interface
You can log out of the Web interface or switch users by clicking the User link at the
bottom of the Web interface.

Spectra RXT Firmware
Updates
Check Spectra Logic’s web site for the latest RXT firmware information, located at
www.spectralogic.com/firmware.
User Firmware vs. Auto Firmware
User Firmware
User Firmware is the firmware image that has been placed on the RXT media by a user
through the web interface (or front display interface). With RXT media loaded in a RXT
drive, a user can save the RXT drive’s operating firmware to a partition on the RXT
media. The user can then update the firmware in other RXT drives by loading that RXT
media into other drives and using the firmware upgrade function of the web interface
(or front display interface).
Auto Firmware
Auto Firmware automatically protects data from firmware mismatches that may prevent
the data from being read or written. As with any removable media, there is a risk over
time that the data format of the media will not match the data format of the drive. Auto
Firmware assists the user in preventing this from happening.
An Auto Firmware file is automatically written to RXT media when it is first written to
in a RXT drive. Following that, whenever RXT media is placed into a RXT drive, the
RXT drive checks the data format of the RXT media to make sure that the levels match.
In the event that the RXT drive’s operating firmware is a lower format version than the
RXT media’s Auto Firmware, the user is notified and asked to update the RXT drive to
the latest level.

Spectra RXT Firmware
Release of RXT Firmware 1.5.0.9
December 2007
Enhancements
• Higher data transfer rate of 110MB/sec for uncompressed data in optimal
environments
• Additional capacity option of 2TBs (2 x 3.5” at 1TB per drive) for Silver RXT media
packs
Known Issues
• While rebuilding the RAID array on RXT media for the RXT350 and RXT150, the
progress bar for the operation might reflect an incorrect percentage number (that
is, over 100%) before completing. Unless an error message indicates otherwise,
the RAID array is successfully rebuilt after the operation finishes.
Release of RXT Firmware 1.4.0.33
November 2006
Enhancements
• Improved diagnostics
• Improved error handling
• Improved Web interface
• Added availability of different trace levels and types
• Added support of Read Buffer Command
• Works with Adaptec HBAs under Linux (except two; see Known Issues, below)
• Added drive temperature fault feature
• Web interface logs out when password is changed
• Added new diagnostic to change pack serial number and EC level
• Host name now appears in the bottom toolbar of the Web interface
9
Spectra RXT Firmware
Fixes
• Added fault recovery in for RXT in Spectra T950 libraries
• The Web interface now reports the correct bar code label
• Obstructed move failure now reports 4,53,0 instead of 2,4,0
• Failure to read EEPROM now displays a valid message on the LC
Known Issues
• RXT drives running at this firmware level do not support the Adaptec 29360 HBA
or the Adaptec 39320 HBA
Release of RXT Firmware 1.1.0.63
January 2006
• Initial Release
