Quick-Start Guide
Thank you for purchasing the CalMAN VPS-2000
Video Pattern Set USB Drive. The VPS-2000 is
designed to use with a Western Digital media player
that you already own or purchase locally to
assemble your own digital pattern generator.
The VPS-2000 set of over 2400 patterns was
designed to support to the new features in CalMAN
5, including its Dynamic Range control and
luminance and saturation sweeps.
The VPS-2000 patterns include:
Grayscale luminance patterns at 5% increments.
Grayscale pattern levels to 109%, for above-white testing with CalMAN 5
Dynamic Range control.
Color luminance patterns at 25% increments.
Color saturation patterns at 20% and 25% increments.
Digital Pattern Generator
To use the VPS-2000 Video Pattern Set USB Drive with a media player, simply insert the
drive into an open USB port on the player before powering up the player.
A Western Digital media player with the VPS-2000 USB Drive attached can be controlled
automatically by CalMAN using a USB-UIRT USB to IR interface, available from
SpectraCal and other sources.
Note: Automated CalMAN control of a media player with the VPS-2000 USB Drive
requires a CalMAN 5 Control, Enthusiast, or business license.
Digital Media Streaming
The VPS-2000 video patterns can also be imported to a media stream with fixed
durations per pattern to create an automated test and evaluation sequence.

VPS-2000 USB Drive File Structure
The VPS-2000 Video Pattern Set contains patterns at the four major consumer video
resolutions, 480, 576, 720, and 1080, at both SMPTE video levels and full range PC
levels. It contains grayscale and color patterns at 5% luminance increments, color
patterns at 20% and 25% saturation increments, and a full range of visual evaluation
patterns.
The VPS-2000 USB Drive file structure is outlined below for the 1080 resolution. Though
not shown, the same selection of patterns is also available at each of the other video
resolutions.
