Quick-Start Guide

1. Identifying the parts

The small box with a USB cable is your CalMAN IR

Controller. It is an InfraRed transceiver that plugs into
your computer. CalMAN uses the IR Controller to
communicate with the DPG-1400 remotely. The
larger black box is the DPG-1400 itself. The USB
drive and the power supply attach to the DPG-1400, as
explained below. The remote control is used for setup.

2. Make sure that you have the most current CalMAN Device Driver Kit

If you have not downloaded and installed version 1.3 of the CalMAN Device Driver Kit
(required for IR Controller support), download it now from www.spectracal.com. (From
the Downloads menu, choose “Other Downloads” and select the Device Driver Kit from
the list. Run the MSI to install the Device Driver Kit on your system.

3. Install the CalMAN IR Controller Driver

Plug the IR Controller into a USB port on your system. Windows will pop up a Found
New Hardware Wizard. To the prompt "What do you want the Wizard to do," select the
option, "Install from a list or specific location."
Use the Browse button to locate the directory where you installed the Device Driver Kit.
The default driver files are listed below.
C:\Program Files\SpectraCal\Drivers\USB-UIRT
Or with a 64bit Windows PC the locations will be
C:\Program Files (x86)\SpectraCal\Drivers\USB-UIRT

Windows7 does not prompt for driver installation when a device is first attached. In
order to install the drivers, go to Start/Control Panel, choose System and then choose
Device Manager on the left hand side of the System Properties window. Find your
device in the list. Your device should be listed with a yellow exclamation point on its
icon. Right click on the device and choose Update Driver Software. Choose Search my
computer for driver software and then continue following the directions for installing the
driver as listed above.

4. Place the USB drive into the USB port on the DPG-1400

5. Connect the power

Plug the DPG-1400 into its power supply and plug in the power supply.

6. Connect the output of your DPG-1400 to your display

You can use the HDMI cable provided.

7. Select the display resolution

To set the display type in the DPG-1400, use the DPG-1400 remote control to select
Settings, Audio Video, Display Resolution Make sure that Output levels are set to RGB
High.

8. Select the DPG

In CalMAN’s Source settings page, select the DPG-1400 as your pattern source. Click
connect.

9. Calibrate

When you enter a CalMAN calibration session, CalMAN will prompt you to set the
DPG-1400 to the photos, then “01 Patterns” directory. Thereafter, CalMAN will
automatically set the correct pattern for the required task. If for any reason CalMAN and
the DPG-1400 get out of synchronization, use the Sync button (located next to the pattern
source indicator on the top of the screen) to re-sync. The software will prompt you to go
back to Photo, and have the cursor on “01 Patterns”.

10. Set the display resolution for every device you calibrate

Use the DPG-1400 remote control to select Settings, Audio Video, Display Resolution.
Do not select “Auto,” but specify the resolution of the device you are calibrating. If you
omit this step, the patterns your DPG-1400 displays may not be in the proper format or
employ the appropriate color standards.

11. Useful Settings for the WD Media Player:
You shouldn’t need to adjust these, but if they have been changed they can adversely

affect the interactions between the DPG-1400 and CalMAN.

Audio / Video

 Video output = HDMI - specify the correct resolution and refresh rate for the

display being calibrated – RGB High (Do not select Auto)

 Aspect ratio = Widescreen
 Audio output = stereo
