INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on purchasing SpeakerCraft’s TIME Mini Amp/Controller. The TIME Mini Amp/Controller allows control of your TIME
Mini Series Loudspeakers and provides a 150W Subwoofer Amplier for use with In-wall or In-Ceiling Subwoofers. This allows the user to
control when the TIME Mini Series Loudspeakers are brought into the room and how much bass is supplied to the Subwoofer, all in one
convenient chassis. This Amplier does not amplify or modify the audio signal going to the TIME Mini Series Loudspeakers. The amplier that each TIME Mini Loudspeaker is attached to, controls this sound level and quality. The TIME Mini Amp/Controller only supplies
power to the TIME Mini loudspeaker’s motors and controls when the TIME Mini Loudspeakers are lowered into the room or retracted into the ceiling. Note: All TIME Series Loudspeakers and electronics are a very sophisticated, customizable, and programmable. These
attributes add to the value of this system. However, due to this sophistication and exibility, SpeakerCraft highly recommends the use of a qualied custom installation specialist when installing your TIME Loudspeakers and Electronics. If you need assistance in locating
an installer, please contact SpeakerCraft at 1-800-448-0976.

ELECTRONICS PLACEMENT
Placing the TIME Mini Amp/Controller depends on the overall system architecture and the equipment that you will attach to it. A general rule of thumb is to place the electronics near the location of the amplier which will power most of the TIME Mini Loudspeakers. This allows the installer to run speaker wire and Cat 5 cable from the TIME Mini loudspeakers to the same location. However, many variations and options exist for installing this equipment. For instance, if the area that the electronics will be installed is remote to the
listening area, you may need to attach a SmartPath™ IR Receiver or a remote IR repeating system to the amplier to use the remote
in the listening area. Please contact an authorized SpeakerCraft dealer if you need assistance with choosing the proper location for your TIME Mini Amp/Controller and peripherals that need to be attached to it.
If you are going to rack mount the electronics, attach the supplied rack mount ears to the chassis. Unscrew the two screws on each
side of the chassis (just behind the faceplate) and screw the ear to the chassis using these screws. Do this for each ear on either side
of the chassis.
Run all TIME Mini Loudspeaker Control Cables from the loudspeaker locations to this location. If you are going to attach a Trigger Input, Trigger Output, IR Receiver or External IR input to the unit, run these cables to this location.
PRE-INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
There are some items to consider before installing the TIME Mini Amp/Controller.
1. AC VOLTAGE SETTING
If you are going to plug the TIME Mini Amp/Controller into a wall socket that supplies 220VAC power, replace the current 4A fuse
with one rated for 2A and place the AC Input Voltage Selection Switch (Item 16) to the 220V position. If you are using the TIME Mini
Amp/Controller with 110VAC power input, leave the unit in its shipped condition. If replacing the fuse, use one rated for 4A Amps
and put the AC Input Voltage Selection Switch (Item 16) to the 110-120V position. CAUTION: Choosing the 110VAC Switch position but plugging the unit into a 220VAC socket can result in permanent damage to the amplier. Make sure you set the proper voltage
prior to plugging the unit into the wall.
3
2. USING AUTO SENSE OR TRIGGERED INPUTS
Auto sense is the ability of the TIME Mini Amp/Controller to sense audio being played into the Subwoofer Amplier.
When Audio is sensed at the input of the Subwoofer Amplier, all TIME Mini Loudspeakers attached to it will be lowered into the room, regardless of the trigger voltage being present or not. When audio is removed from the input to the Subwoofer Amplier and the voltage trigger is not present, the speakers will retract into the ceiling after a period of time (approximately 7 minutes).
There is no switch that disables the auto sense function. TIME Mini Speakers must be lowed into the room when audio is being played through them.
If you would like to trigger the speakers to lower into the room, then you would attach a device to the Time Mini Amp/Controller which would apply a voltage between 12-30VAC or DC. When the trigger voltage is removed and no audio is detected at the
amplier inputs, the speakers will retract into the ceiling. If audio is present, the speakers will remain lowered into the room until audio is removed from the amplier and the delay time has elapsed since the removal of the audio.
3. BRINGING THE SPEAKERS INTO THE ROOM
When setting up the TIME Mini Amp/Controller for the TIME Mini Speakers. There are three options for lowering the speakers into the
room. It can be done automatically using the built in Auto Sense Function (as described in Step 2 of this section), by a 12-30V AC/
DC trigger voltage, also described above, or by IR commands from a remote control or IR system. All of these options are available and need to be setup during the installation of the system. Consult an Authorized SpeakerCraft Installer to determine the correct method for setting up the system properly.
CONNECTING THE TIME MINI AMP/CONTROLLER
CAUTION: Do not power on the Controller until all TIME Mini speakers are connected to it and any peripheral control systems are plugged into the Controller. Serious damage could occur if you plug or unplug the Cat 5 connectors when power is applied to the Controller. Make sure that the Controller’s power supply is not connected to the unit while plugging in the speakers’ Control Cables
(Cat 5 with RJ45 connectors).
Attach all Control Cables (Cat 5 cable with RJ45 connectors) to the TIME Mini speakers and to the Controller. All speakers connected
to this Controller will move in unison.
When connecting the audio source to the amplier, use either the LFE input or the Line Level L/R inputs. This decision is based on the outputs available on your audio amplier/receiver and what is convenient to this particular installation of the controller.
CONNECTING THE LFE OR LINE LEVEL AUDIO INPUTS & OUTPUTS
If your surround receiver or pre-amplier has a single subwoofer (LFE) output, plug it into the LFE input jack on the TIME Mini Amp/ Controller. If your surround receiver or pre-amplier only has stereo line level outputs, plug them into the L & R Line Level Input jacks
on the TIME Mini Amp/Controller.
Sources connected to the Left and Right Line Level or LFE Inputs can be forwarded to other components or ampliers by connecting
to the corresponding Line Level or LFE Output jacks. These outputs are not altered by any of the TIME Mini Amp/Controller controls or settings.
CAUTION: Only make connection when the TIME Mini Amp/Controller is turned off at the switch or power is unplugged.
NOTE 1: The LFE Input accepts the LFE Subwoofer Output signal from your receiver/pre-amp (if so equipped), but the signal bypasses
the crossover in the TIME Mini Amp/Controller. This is appropriate for use with the low-pass ltered audio signal from the receiver/preamp. Signal smoothness through the critical crossover area is maximized since the low and high pass ltering both take place within the receiver/pre-amp. This ltering more precisely prevents overlapping of the crossover points that may occur if the LPF and HPF
limits are set too close together.
NOTE 2: The L&R Line Level Input connectors on the back panel accept the signal from your receiver/pre-amp and lter it using the TIME Mini Amp/Controller’s internal LPF crossover ltering. This method is appropriate if you’re certain the audio signal to the Amp/ Controller is not already crossover-ltered (meaning there is no low-pass ltering).
4
CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS
NOTE: When connecting the subwoofer to the TIME Mini Amp/Controller, for best results follow this guide: for runs up to 75’, use speaker
wire of at least 16-gauge; for runs exceeding that distance, it is recommend to use 14-gauge wire. Wire larger than 14-gauge is not
recommended because it may not t into the subwoofer terminals.
1. Run the Subwoofer speaker wire from the installed or planned subwoofer location to the location of the TIME Mini Amp/ Controller.
2. Strip 3/8” of the insulation from the end of each of the speaker wires.
3. Connect the wires from the subwoofer to the back panel of the TIME Mini Amp/Controller . Please observe the proper polarity of
the connections, matching positive (+) to positive and negative (-) to negative.
4. Connect each of the TIME Mini Loudspeaker Power Cables to each of the TIME Mini Loudspeakers in accordance with the loudspeaker installation instructions. Plug each of these cables into the RJ45 connectors on the rear of the TIME Mini Amp/Controller.
The Sub Amplier accepts and powers up to 8 TIME Mini Loudspeakers.
CAUTION: Do not use parallel connections to attach more than 8 TIME Mini Loudspeakers as the Loudspeaker may not work properly and you may cause damage to the TIME Mini Amp/Controller.
OTHER CONNECTIONS AND SETTINGS
1. Trigger In. When a 3.5mm plug is inserted into the Trigger In jack, the TIME Mini Amp/Controller can be turned On and Off by an
external voltage source of 12 to 30V AC/DC. Such a trigger source may be a trigger output on your receiver/amp or a small DC power supply plugged into an Aux. AC outlet that is switched On and Off with the receiver/amp.
Note: Audio Sense is always on, so if the unit is in trigger mode and you remove the trigger while audio is still being sensed at the
amplier, the speakers will remain lowered into the room and will not be retracted. This insures that the speakers are always in the
down position while music is playing through them.
2. IR Control. The sensor for the internal IR Receiver on the TIME Mini Amp/Controller front panel is located next to the LPF control. It can be used for direct IR control of the TIME Mini Amp/Controller using the included remote control, if you have a direct, line-ofsite view to the IR sensor when using the remote. If you do not have a direct, line-of-site view to the TIME Mini Amp/Controller, use a SpeakerCraft SmartPath
NOTE: The IR sensor on the TIME Mini Amp/Controller will still function when the IR RCVR and/or Ext. IR Inputs are connected.
3. IR RCVR jack. This jack permits the use of SpeakerCraft’s SmartPath
as models IRC-1.1, IRC-2.1, etc. This is particularly useful when room conditions do not allow a direct view of the built-in IR sensor on the TIME Mini Amp/Controller front panel. Simply plug the IR receiver into the IR RCVR jack and place it on a shelf, table top or other location that permits direct, line-of-sight reception from the handheld remote control.
4. Ext. IR Input. The External IR Input connector on the TIME Mini Amp/Controller back panel is provided so that the unit can be controlled along with the other components in a network IR-controlled entertainment system. Simply connect a 3.5mm mini plug cable from an IR output port on the IR network to this Ext. IR Input jack.
Once all Loudspeaker Control Cables, external controls, subwoofer and accessories are connected to the TIME Mini Amp/Controller you can turn the unit on and operate it as shown below.

OPERATION
Power
To turn the AC Power ON to the TIME Mini Amp/Controller (after all connections have been made), use the Power switch on the front
panel. This places the TIME Mini Amp/Controller in a standby “Off” mode. The Power indicator on the front panel will illuminate red. To switch the TIME Mini Amp/Controller into the “Active” mode, use the POWER button on the included remote control, supply an audio signal to the unit or apply an appropriate voltage to the trigger input. The Power indicator on the front panel will turn green, the connected subwoofer will be active and the connected TIME Mini Loudspeakers will be lowered into the room. When you press POWER again, the TIME Mini Amp/Controller returns to the “Off” or standby mode and the Power indicator turns red. When this happens the
amplier is put into standby immediately, but the attached TIME Mini loudspeakers will be retracted into the room only if the audio has stopped playing and the delay is over. When the audio is removed from the amplier, the amplier goes into the standby mode
after 5 minutes, but the TIME Mini Loudspeakers will not retract for until about 2 minutes more.

Equalization (EQ)
Use this control or the one on the remote to set the overall frequency balance of the subwoofer bass frequencies with the higher frequencies of other speakers in the system, so that it suits the listening environment and the type of audio being played. Press the Equalization button to select between Movie, Rock and Jazz in combination with various audio inputs. Repeatedly pressing the front panel button on the TIME Mini Amp/Controller cycles through the available EQ settings. On the remote, simply press the EQ button you desire.
Low Pass Filter (LPF)
Use this front panel control to adjust the high limit of the frequency range of the TIME Mini Amp/Controller’s Subwoofer output. Different types of loudspeakers can produce signals inside the range of the subwoofer. In general the goal is to achieve a good crossover point between the subwoofer and the rest of the loudspeakers in the system. If the speakers cannot reproduce very much low frequency, then rotate this control to a higher frequency setting. If the main speakers are large and can reproduce lower frequencies, then rotate this control to a lower setting.
Phase
This front panel control toggles the phase of the bass frequencies fed to the subwoofer between 0° and 180°. Press the Phase button
to try the two modes in combination with various audio materials. Choose the setting that offers the best presence and denition in
the Subwoofer output. In general, the best position will be the one that results in the heaviest bass output at your primary listening location. You can do this from the listening location by using the remote control to switch between the two phase settings.
USING THE REMOTE TO CONTROL TIME MINI LOUDSPEAKER MOVEMENT
The remote control for the TIME Mini Subwoofer amplier can control the TIME Mini Speakers manually so that they can be brought into
the room and retracted without audio present at the Amp/Controller. Simply press the UP button to retract the loudspeakers into the ceiling and the DOWN button to lower the loudspeakers into the room. The speakers will retract automatically after about 2 minutes.
