1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Small children, elderly or infirm people: As with all naked flames, it is always advisable to have a protective guard in place for these groups of people Risk of burning! Never leave these groups of people unattended near the the fireplace when an ebios-fire is burning or has just been extinguished! The ebios-fire must never be left unattended while in operation!
Bio-ethanol is a hazardous substance and must always be stored in accordance with the specifications, and only in specified amounts.
Storage in the basement: max. 20 litres Storage in a residential space: max. 5 litres
1.1 SCOPE OF DELIVERY
The relevant specific regional and local directives and regulations, especially those relating to fire safety in a German federal state, and where applicable the fire safety stipulations of VKF governing the installation and operation of your ebios-fire must be observed.
The installation location must ensure that there is no possibility of the burner moving while in operation as a consequence of collision impacts or similar events.
All models may only be operated with the closed housing cover.
Please note that the fuel must not be topped up when the equipment is hot or in burning mode. Refilling must NOT take place via the burner channel but instead ONLY via the filler aperture (see Fig. 1). We advise you to put out the ebios-fire by running it until the fuel tank runs dry. When not in operation, the cover plate must always be over the burner.
Only permit people to fill the equipment with fuel who are familiar with the equipment and with the safety requirements, and who have received instructions from you in the operation of the unit.
The ebios-fire is not a heater, but is instead a decorative fire.

2. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Please be sure to observe the following carefully. Please bear in mind that bio-ethanol is a liquid fuel that, when combusted, can produce high local temperatures and is itself readily ignitable. Any failure to comply with the assembly and operating instructions can lead to hazardous situations, and even to explosive combustion of the fuel. With proper installation and proper handling, you can assure safe and reliable operation. The equipment must not tilt and must be aligned horizontally. Secure the wall-mounted equipment as well as the free-standing equipment to the wall and floor respectively. This is for your own safety.

2.2 FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENT FOR THE INSTALL ATION
When installing and operating the ebios-fire, due compliance with all applicable national and European standards as well as local stipulations (fire protection regulations, etc.) must be observed and applied. The following relevant provisions are listed here without any claim to completeness.
BetrSichV Operational safety directive
Vbf Flammable liquids directive
BsV Fire protection directive of the the relevant German federal state (Bundesland)
LBO Federal state construction directives
GefStoffV Dangerous Goods Act
The ebios-fire must only be installed in rooms and in places in which the location, construction situation and type of utilisation do not lead to hazards. The floor space of the site of installation has to be designed and sufficiently dimensioned to enable the ebios-fire to be operated properly and in accordance with its intended purpose.
For transportation of your ebios-fire, only use approved and sufficiently load-bearing transportation aids.
The following points must always be followed to assure safe and problemfree transportation:
Please note: CO ratio between CO
forms when ethanol is burnt. To guarantee a balanced
2
and atmospheric oxygen, ensure that the air in the room
2
in which the burner is installed is sufficiently exchanged now and then. To do this, open a window or door to air the room.
• Transportation aids (if required), specific sack trucks can only be picked
up from the back of the ebios-fire.
• During transportation, there must be no fuel in the tank.
Please report DAMAGE WHILE IN TRANSIT to your supplier immediately. During installation and transportation, protect the covering and the visible parts of the fireplace furniture item from dirt and damage.
GB 5
2.3 INSTALLATION SITE
During set-up and installation of the ebios-fire, ensure that the equipment is not located immediately beside major heat sources (radiators, chimney ovens etc.) or in installation spaces with high temperature loads (e.g. saunas). Outside heating of the ethanol fireplace when it is not in operation can cause the fuel in the tank to be forced out through the burner channel and then to collect in the safety tray. In such cases, before lighting the ebiosfire, remove the burner and empty the safety tray.
The fireplace inserts may only be installed in recesses with a sufficient load bearing capacity. If the load bearing capacity is not sufficient, suitable measures must be taken (e.g., plate for load distribution) to remedy this.
NO modifications may be made to the design of the ebios fireplace insert.
2.5 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION IN TAILOR-MADE FIREPLACE CLADDING
Your ebios-fire must not be set up:
• In stairways except in residential buildings with two or fewer flats.
• In hallways with general access.
• In garages
• Outside
• In rooms containing readily flammable or explosive substances or where mixtures are processed, stored or manufactured in such quantities that combustion or explosion could constitute a hazard.
• In insufficiently ventilated rooms.
• In publicly accessible areas without supervision.
• In areas not protected against lateral ventilation.
• On tables, furniture items, wall-mounted shelving units etc.
2.4 SET-UP AND ASSEMBLY
The ebios-fire Quadra Inside is a ready-to-use item of equipment for installation in the top panel of a customized item of furniture (combustible materials) or in an individually crafted, open fireplace (not combustible materials). In the case of individually crafted fireplaces with the Quadra Inside, no exhaust ducting is required.
The ebios-fire furniture item, whether free-standing or wall-mounted must be set up horizontally and secured to prevent tilting.
• When designing tailor-made items of furniture, all the minimum distances and installation dimensions must be observed.
• The installation recess must have a sufficient load bearing capacity
• The ebios fireplace insert must be aligned horizontally
• The furniture items must always be secure to the wall or to the floor respectively and secured to prevent accidental dislodgement, e.g. after a collision impact and/or from being lifted up. To accomplish this, choose appropriate fastening material.
• Installation in individually create fireplace cladding wood is permitted only up to a body length of 1000mm. A lining of the insertion niche with 40mm calcium silicate boards is always needed.
• All inlet air apertures and rear ventilation points must be kept clear and must not be obstructed because a heat build-up might otherwise occur.
Danger of fire!
• There must be an air gap of 10 mm around the body and be-tween the panel and mounting wall. An air gap of 20 mm must be provided to the rear (see the installation diagram fig. 1).
• The cross-section of the air intake opening for supplying air to and cooling the burner is based on the burner type and must be positioned in the direct vicinity of the body. Please refer to the relevant burner instruction manual (automatic or wick burner) and the instructions under Point 2.5.1.

2.7 COMBUSTION AIR SUPPLY
Your ebios-fire draws combustion air out of the installation space (dependent an ambient air in room). Ensure that the installation space is supplied with a plentiful amount of fresh air. With the windows and doors sealed (e.g. in conjunction with energy conservation measures), it is possible for the volume of fresh air entering the room to be insufficient. This can affect your well-being and under some circumstances, can also affect your health or also the combustion characteristics. Open a window to provide a sufficient supply of fresh air.
3. OPERATING MANUAL
Read this assembly and operating manual carefully prior to installation and/ or commissioning of your ebios-fire. All objects from the ebios-fire-Quadra Inside must be removed (except for the burner unit). Please observe the fire protection regulations and dangerous goods specifications!
• No combustible objects (decorative items, pieces of clothing etc.) must
be placed within the radiating area (300 mm). (see Fig. 3)
• No objects must be located between the fireplace and the room ceiling
(distance to ceiling >600 mm)! (see Fig. 4)

3.1 GENERAL INFORMATION ON WICK BURNER
• Small children, elderly or infirm people: As with all naked flames it is advisable to fit a guard (available from specialty traders as an accessory) for these groups of people. Danger of burn injuries! Never leave these groups of persons unattended near the ebios-fire when a fire is burning or has just been extinguished! Please make these groups of people aware of this source of danger.
• Do not place or keep any combustible objects on free surfaces of the ebios-fire-Quadra Inside. Never place items of laundry to dry on this furniture item. Clothes drying racks must only be erected outside the radiant area! Danger of fire!
• The burning process releases thermal energy that can lead to heating of the burner, the housing surfaces, the glass windows (depending on version) and of the safety glass panels. Touching these without the use
GB 8
of appropriate protection (e.g. insulated gloves) should be avoided at all times. Danger of burn injuries!
• While the fire is lit, never leave it unattended during the combustion process!
• With the Quadra Inside, ensure that the housing covers are closed and that the safety windows are fitted.
• During operation, it is advisable to open a window.
• Several decorative ethanol fireplaces may only be operated if the fuel throughput of all the devices together does not exceed 0.5 l/h and if measures to ensure sufficient ventilation have been taken. In this context, please refer to the table on page 8, under point 2.1. Technical data.
• The burner must only be operated with the burner mat and these wicks. No change in the number of wicks, the wick material or the burner mat is permissible.
• No modifications to ebios-fire furniture items are permitted.
• This is a decorative fireplace used in private households, that is not intended for heating, nor for continuous operation! Nonetheless, note that during the combustion process, as a by-product, heat (approx. 6 kW) is generated. This can in some cases cause heating of the installation space.
• If the burner is not being used, there should never be any fuel in the tank and the cover plate must be on the burner.
• The burners are intended to continue operating until all of the fuel is used up. If you only wish to enjoy the flame pattern for a short time, please will the unit with correspondingly less fuel.If you shut the equipment down prematurely, seal the burner using the cover plate, with the help of the ‚cold hand‘. After shutting down the burner, always allow at least 1 hour for it to cool down!
GB
• The burner must NOT be filled when hot or while burning and NOT via
the burner channel! DANGER TO LIFE!
• Working with fuel near the hot or still lit equipment harbours substantial risks and should be avoided at all costs!
• Only ever fill the burner through the filler aperture and never via the burner channel (see Fig. 1)!
• In the event of ethanol getting spilled accidentally, please clean it up immediately and before you light the burner!
• Please note that the lighting power of the flame can reduce to such a point until the flame is no longer clearly visible. Draw the attention of children and other people in the household to this fact.
• Minimum waiting time between shutting down the burner and refilling it = 1 hour!
• Do not smoke when working with fuel and the ebios-fire.
Non-observance of these basic rules can lead to uncontrolled combustion, and even to explosion!
3.2 FUEL
‚Bio-ethanol‘ is used as a fuel (chemical formula C2H6O) with an ethanol content of 96%. You can source this from your specialty trader. This is a hazardous substance as defined in ADR: Class 3 PG III, UN 1170.
Never use different fuels such as gasoline, methylated spirits or burning fluids, and never mix these fuels together or with other substances. The burners must always be operated with the specified fuel, failing which the warranty cover is voided and you may obtain unsafe or even hazardous operating characteristics.
GB 9
Ethanol is a readily combustible fluid that must be stored in firmly sealed containers, be protected against light sources, and far from fire sources. It is OK to store max. 5 litres in a residential apartment and max. 20 litres in a basement. Keep bio-ethanol stored beyond the reach of children. For safety purposes, do not fill the burners until shortly before you use them to prevent them from being ignited accidentally and by unauthorized persons, and/or causing the fuel to evaporate.
Please note that ethanol can only be used for combustion purposes and is not suitable for eating. Watch out for your children! If swallowed, please seek immediate medical attention and show the doctor the fuel label.
3.3 COMMISSIONING
The ebios-fire-Quadra Inside is supplied with an empty burner to ensure that during transportation, ethanol cannot escape or evaporate.
Please observe the enclosed instruction manual for either the wick or automatic burner during commissioning.
4. CLEANING AND CARE
The ebios-fire–Quadra Inside III SL must only be cleaned in cold condition.
4.1 CLEANING OF THE PANELLING PARTS
• When cleaning, first wait until the quipment has cooled down (at least 1 hour)!
• Metal decorative surfaces and the panelling parts can be cleaned with a damp cloth (do not use microfibre).
• Glass surfaces can be cleaned with a standard glass cleaner and a soft cloth (do not use microfibre!).
• Stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned with a standard stainless steel cleaning agent Only use this in direction of abrasive grinding marks.
Regularly remove dust on and under the ebios-fire furniture unit because the dust particles can burn and/or carburise. This can lead to contamination of the installation space and its equipment items.
