About the International ENERGY STAR
Office Equipment Program
The following information is applicable to ENERGY STAR qualified products only.
As an ENERGY STAR Partner, Sony has determined that this product meets the ENERGY
STAR guidelines for energy efficiency.
The International ENERGY STAR Office Equipment Program is an international program
that promotes energy saving through the use of computers and office equipment. The
program backs the development and dissemination of products with functions that
effectively reduce energy consumption.

This computer is designed in compliance with the ENERGY STAR standards and delivered
with the following power saving settings that apply to the computer running on AC power:
❑The LCD backlight is turned off automatically after about 10 minutes of inactivity.
❑The computer enters Sleep mode automatically after about 30 minutes of inactivity.
Press any key to bring the computer back into Normal mode.
ENERGY STAR and the ENERGY STAR mark are registered U.S. marks.

VAIO Computer Information
Safety information
❑Warning: This apparatus must be earthed. (Except the products with a 2-pin type plug.)
❑Turning off your computer with the power button or the power switch does not
disconnect the computer completely from mains voltage. To disconnect it completely,
unplug the AC adapter or the power cable from mains. The socket-outlet shall be
installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.
❑Opening or dismantling the main unit or any of its accessories, for whatever reason,
could lead to damages that are not covered by the guarantee.
❑To avoid electrical shock, do not open the cabinet. Refer servicing to qualified
personnel only.
❑To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose your computer or any of its accessories
to rain or moisture.
❑Do not short-circuit the metal terminals of the battery pack or wet them with any liquid,
for example water, coffee or juice.
❑Locations directly exposed to sunlight or heaters should be avoided. Internal
overheating could result in fire or damage of the unit.
❑Do not block the air exhaust or intake vents while the computer is in operation.
❑Blocking the air vents leads to restriction on air circulation, which can cause internal
overheating, resulting in deformation of the computer, a malfunction, or a fire hazard.
❑Observe the following precautions to provide adequate air circulation and to ensure
normal reliable operation.
❑Do not use the computer on any cloth-covered surfaces such as rugs, cushion or
blankets, near draperies, or on dusty surfaces that may block its air vents. Always
use the computer on flat surfaces.
❑Do not use the computer and/or the AC adapter while covered or wrapped in cloth.
Ensure the AC adapter operates in a clear environment.
❑Turn off the computer and make sure the power indicator light is unlit before
putting the computer into a bag or a carrying case.
❑When holding the computer, be sure to wait until it cools down. The surface around the
air exhaust vent may be extremely hot.
❑It is recommended that you do not use your computer directly on your lap. The
temperature of the base of the unit may rise during normal operation and over time
could result in discomfort or burns.
❑Do not place the AC adapter in contact with your skin. Remove the AC adapter away
from your body if it becomes warm and causes discomfort.
❑This apparatus is also designed for IT power system with phase to phase voltage 230V,
for customers in Norway.
❑Audio and picture distortion may occur if this equipment is positioned in close proximity
to any equipment emitting electromagnetic radiation.

On viewing 3D images
Some people may experience discomfort (such as eye strain, fatigue, or nausea) while
watching 3D video images or using stereoscopic 3D-related software. Sony recommends
that all viewers take regular breaks while watching 3D video images or using stereoscopic
3D-related software. The length and frequency of necessary breaks will vary from person
to person. You must decide what works best. If you experience any discomfort, you should
stop watching the 3D video images or using stereoscopic 3D-related software until the
discomfort ends; consult a doctor if you believe necessary.
You should also see the instruction manual of any other device or software used with this
computer.
The vision of young children (especially those under six years old) is still under
development. Consult your doctor (such as a pediatrician or eye doctor) before allowing
young children to watch 3D video images or use stereoscopic 3D-related software. Adults
should supervise young children to ensure they follow the recommendations listed above.
VAIO notebooks only
Check for and respect airline restrictions on use of wireless capabilities.
If use of the wireless function is prohibited on the airline, turn off the WIRELESS switch
on your computer before boarding.
Radio waves may cause a malfunction of the aircraft’s equipment, resulting in a serious
accident.

Laser Caution
The optical disc drive of your computer is classified as a CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT and
complies with the Laser Products Safety Standard IEC/EN 60825-1.
Caution - Repair and maintenance of this equipment should be made only by Sony
authorised technicians. Improper use and repairs can create a safety hazard.
Caution - Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those
specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
For incorporated optical disc drive
Caution - Class 3B visible and invisible laser radiation when open. Avoid direct exposure to
the beam.
-Maximum power: 390 W ( 650nm), 563 W ( 780nm), 39 W ( 405nm)

authorised technicians. Improper repairs and use can create safety hazards.

The CLASS 1 label is located on the bottom of the notebook near the model number.
The CLASS 3B warning label is located on the back of the optical disc drive tray.

For VAIO Computers with the wireless mouse VGP-WMS30
This mouse is classified as a CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT and complies with the Laser
Products Safety Standard IEC/EN60825-1(2007).
Caution - Repair and maintenance of this equipment should be made only by Sony
authorised technicians. Improper repairs and use can create safety hazards.
Caution - Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those
specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

VAIO notebooks and VAIO desktops with AC adapters
❑VAIO notebooks are designed to operate only with genuine Sony batteries. Therefore,
and in order to guarantee a safe usage of your VAIO notebook, only a genuine Sony
rechargeable battery pack should be used. Also, it is highly recommended that you use
a genuine Sony AC adapter supplied by Sony for your VAIO computer.
❑This AC adapter is intended for use with VAIO IT products only. Please do not use it
for any other purpose. If the power cable of the AC adapter bundled with your computer
comes with a 3-pin plug, please make sure that the electrical connection will be
properly earthed.
❑To disconnect your computer completely from mains voltage, unplug the AC adapter
from mains. The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily
accessible.
❑i.LINK, PC Card, monitor and DVI connectors are not supplied with Limited Power
Sources, if such connectors are provided.
❑To prevent possible damage and risk of ignition to your computer during transportation,
first attach any supplied connector covers and slot protectors in their appropriate
locations, and secure the battery pack in the battery compartment.
❑When travelling to and within the United States of America, please be aware that the
U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently published new regulations that
apply to passengers travelling with lithium metal batteries and lithium ion batteries.
