ü Place your notebook computer on a clean, stable and covered surface to avoid damage to the
computer’s case.*
ü Follow the ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) damage prevention instructions:
o Hold parts by the edges, away from exposed circuitry when possible. o Do not walk around excessively as this promotes static build-up.
ü The appearance of the electronic components shown in the illustrations may be different from the
components shipped. This slight difference does not affect the accuracy of these instructions.
Step 1. Prepare the Computer.
computer is turned off, the lid is closed, and the AC Adapter is disconnected. Failure to do so can result in damage to the computer.
Place the computer upside down on a protected surface with the front edge facing you.

Step 2. Remove the Battery Pack.
1. Slide the left battery tab to the unlock position.
2. With your right thumb, slide the right battery tab in the release direction and hold.
3. Remove the battery by lifting the side where the arrow is pointing.
(HDD Removal) Steps 3-7
Step 3. Locate the HDD Bay. Using the
enclosed magnetic screwdriver, loosen the two (2) screws securing the HDD access cover.
To remove the HDD access cover, start by lifting from the side where the screws held it in place.

Step 5. Using the enclosed magnetic screwdriver, remove the two (2) screws securing the HDD assembly.
Step 8. To remove the drive, carefully detach HDD connector in the direction shown. Some force may be needed to unlock the HDD from the connector.
Step 6. Carefully lift the HDD assembly just enough to access the HDD connector.
CAUTION: Do not force the removal
of the HDD at this point as damage to the HDD cable/connector or drive may occur.
(HDD Reinstallation) Steps 10-12
Step 9. Replace the old HDD assembly
with the new one. Carefully attach the HDD connector to the replacement drive making sure that they are seated properly.

Step 7. Partially remove the black plastic cover to get access to the HDD connector.
NOTE: The black plastic cover uses a thin
layer of adhesive tape to properly secure the HDD to the connector. Slowly peel this portion of the cover to reveal the connector.

Wrap Over HDD Connector
Step 10. Peel off the w hite adhesive backing to expose the sticky portion of the mounting tape. Wrap the black plastic cover over the HDD connector to secure it in place.
Step 13. Reinstall the battery pack and reconnect the AC Adaptor.
Power on your computer and continue with the recovery process by following the instructions described on the back of the recovery disk’s case.
Return the old HDD to Sony following the included shipping instructions.
Step 11. Carefully place the HDD assembly inside the HDD Bay. Reinstall the two (2) previously removed screws.

Step 12. Re-attach the HDD access cover and secure it with the two (2) screws shown in the picture.
