The above “Memory Stick Micro” media and “Memory
Stick Micro” (Mark2) media are equipped with MagicGate
functions. MagicGate is copyright protection technology
that uses encryption technology. Data recording/playback
that requires MagicGate functions cannot be performed
with the camera.
Notes
• To ensure stable operations of the memory card, we
recommend that you use this camera to format any
memory card being used with this camera for the first
time. Note that formatting will erase all data recorded on
the memory card. This data cannot be restored. Be sure
to backup any important data to a computer or other
storage location.
• If you repeatedly record/delete images for a long period,
fragmentation of data may occur on the memory card.
Movies may not be able to be saved or recorded. In such
a case, save the images to a computer or other storage
location, then Format.
• A memory card formatted with a computer is not
guaranteed to operate with the camera.
• Data read/write speeds differ depending on the
combination of the memory card and the equipment
used.
• Data may be corrupted in the following cases:
– When the memory card is removed or the camera is
turned off during a read or write operation
– When the memory card is used in locations subject to
static electricity or electrical noise
• We recommend backing up important data to other
storage locations such as the hard disk of a computer.
• Do not attach a label on the memory card itself nor on a
memory card adapter.
• Do not touch the terminal section of the memory card
with your hand or a metal object.
• Do not strike, bend or drop the memory card.
• Do not disassemble or modify the memory card.
Cleaning
Cleaning the lens
If the lens becomes dirty (fingerprints, dust, etc.), gently
wipe clean with a soft cloth.
Cleaning the lens
Do not expose the camera to chemical products such as
thinner or benzine.
When cleaning the lens surface, remove dust, etc. with a
commercially available blower. If the lens becomes very
dirty, apply a lens cleaner on a soft cloth or a lens cleaning
tissue and wipe the lens in a circular motion from the
center of the lens. Do not apply a lens cleaner on the lens
surface directly.
Cleaning the inside of E mount body
Do not touch the internal parts (such as lens contacts) of
the E mount body. Remove dust away from the inside of E
mount body with a commercially available blower*.
* Do not use spray blowers that may cause a malfunction
of the camera.
12
Cleaning the camera surface
Clean the camera surface with a soft cloth slightly
moistened with water or lukewarm water, then wipe the
surface with a dry cloth. To prevent damage to the finish or
casing:
• Do not expose the camera to chemical products such as
thinner, benzine, alcohol, disposable cloths, insect
repellent, sunscreen or insecticide.
• Do not touch the camera with any of the above on your
hand.
• Do not leave the camera in contact with rubber or vinyl
for a long time.
• The battery will run out quickly if you use the zoom
frequently.
• We recommend having spare battery packs handy for
two times to three times the expected shooting time, and
taking test shots before taking the actual shots.
• The battery pack is not water-resistant. Do not expose
the battery pack to water.
• Do not leave the battery pack in extremely hot places,
such as in a car or under direct sunlight.
• You may not be able to turn on the camera or the battery
may not be effectively charged if the terminal section of
the battery is dirty. In this case, wipe any dust off lightly
using a soft cloth or a cotton swab to clean the battery.
Notes on charging the battery
• If the charge lamp of the camera flashes during charging,
remove the battery being charged, and then insert a
separate new battery into the camera to check that it
charges correctly. If the battery is charged correctly, a
battery error may have occurred.
• If the charge lamp flashes again, this indicates that the
charging has stopped temporarily and is on standby
because the temperature is outside of the recommended
temperature for charging. When the temperature returns
to the appropriate range, charging resumes and the
charge lamp lights up again. We recommend charging
the battery in an ambient temperature from 10 °C to
30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F).
Notes on the battery
About the supported battery
NP-FW50 (supplied) can be used for this camera.
About charging the battery
• Charge the battery pack (sold separately) before using
the camera for the first time.
• You can charge the battery even if it is not completely
discharged. In addition, you can use the battery even if it
is only partially charged.
• Charge the battery in an ambient temperature from 10 °C
to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F). The battery may not be
effectively charged in temperatures outside this range.
About battery life
• The battery life is limited. The battery capacity decreases
over time and through repeated use. If the available time
of the battery is shortened significantly, it is probably
time to replace it with a new one.
• The battery life varies according to how it is stored, the
operating conditions, and environment in which each
battery pack is used.
Effective use of the battery
• If the ambient temperature is low, the available time of
the battery is shortened because the battery performance
decreases. To ensure longer battery use we recommend
that you put the battery pack in a pocket close to your
body to warm it up, and insert it in the camera
immediately before you start shooting. If there are any
metal objects such as keys in your pocket, be aware of
short circuits.
How to store the battery pack
• If you do not use the battery pack for a long period, to
maintain the battery’s function, charge the battery and
then fully discharge it in the camera at least once a year.
After that, store the camera in a dry and cool place.
• To prevent staining the terminal, short-circuiting, etc., be
sure to use a plastic bag, etc. to keep the battery pack
away from metal materials when carrying or storing it.

ANY “DISPUTE” THAT IS NOT RESOLVED THROUGH THE INFORMAL NEGOTIATION
PROCESS DESCRIBED ABOVE SHALL BE RESOLVED EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH BINDING
ARBITRATION. “DISPUTE” is defined as any disagreement, cause of action, claim, controversy, or
proceeding between you and any Sony entity related to or arising out of the SOFTWARE or this EULA.
DISPUTE is to be given the broadest possible meaning that will be enforced. If a DISPUTE arises, you
agree to first give notice to SONY by contacting Sony Electronics Inc. at 16530 Via Esprillo, MZ 1105,
San Diego, CA 92127, Attn: Legal Department, and engaging in good faith negotiations to attempt to
resolve any DISPUTE for at least 14 days, except that you or Sony (or any of its affiliates) may skip
this informal negotiation procedure for DISPUTE enforcing, protecting, or concerning the validity of
intellectual property rights.
To begin arbitration, either you or SONY must make a written demand to the other for arbitration. The
arbitration will take place before a single arbitrator. It will be administered in keeping with the
Expedited Procedures of the Commercial Arbitration Rules, and the Supplementary Proceedings for
Consumer-Related disputes when applicable (“Rules”) of the American Arbitration Association
(“AAA”) in effect when the claim is filed. You may get a copy of AAA’s Rules by contacting AAA at
(800) 778-7879 or visiting www.adr.org.
The filing fees to begin and carry out arbitration will be shared between you and SONY, but in no event
shall your fees ever exceed the amount allowable by the special rules for Consumers Disputes provided
for by AAA, at which point SONY will cover all additional administrative fees and expenses. This does
not prohibit the arbitrator from giving the winning party their fees and expenses of the arbitration when
appropriate pursuant to the Rules. Unless you and SONY agree differently, the arbitration will take
place in the county and state where you live, and applicable federal or state law shall govern the
substance of any DISPUTE. The Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. § 1, et seq., will govern the
arbitration itself and not any state law on arbitration. The arbitrator’s decision will be binding and final,
except for a limited right of appeal under the Federal Arbitration Act. The arbitrator may award
declaratory or injunctive relief only in favor of the party seeking relief, and only to the extent necessary
to provide relief warranted by that party’s individual claim. Any court with jurisdiction over the parties
may enforce the arbitrator’s decision.
