• Attach the camera so that the tripod socket is directed downwards when shooting.
• The tripod socket and peripheral parts of the camera are designed for attaching to a tripod. If the camera is attached to an object other than a tripod, Sony will not guarantee the strength.
Temperature of the camera
When using the camera continuously, the temperature of main unit or battery becomes high. This is not a malfunction.
Temperature protection function
Depending on temperature of the camera or the battery, the power may turn off automatically or recording movies may not be available. In this case, turn off the power and wait until the temperature of the camera or the battery is sufficiently cools. If not sufficiently cooled, the power may turn off when turned on again or recording movies may not be available.
The recorded contents cannot be guaranteed
Sony will not be liable for the recorded contents that cannot be recorded or played due to failure of the digital still camera or memory cards.
About database files
When you insert a memory card without a database file into the camera and turn on the power, part of the memory card capacity is used to automatically create a database file. It may take some time before you can perform the next operation. If a database file error occurs, import all images to a computer, then format the memory card by using the camera.
• Do not aim the camera at the sun or other bright light. It may cause malfunction of the camera.
• Do not use the camera near a location that generates strong radio waves or emits radiation. Otherwise, the camera may not properly shoot images.
• Do not irradiate light beams such as a laser directly on the lens. The image sensor may be damaged and that may cause malfunction of the camera.
• Do not shake or strike the camera. It may cause a malfunction and you may not be able to record images. Furthermore, the recording media may become unusable or image data may be damaged.
• When the battery level becomes low, the lens may stop moving. Insert a charged battery and turn on the camera again.
Do not use/store the camera in the following places
• In places that are extremely hot, cold or humid In places such as in a car parked in the sun with shut windows, the camera body may become deformed and this may cause a malfunction.
• Storing under direct sunlight or near a heater The camera body may become discolored or deformed, and this may cause a malfunction.

Cleaning the lens
Do not expose the camera to chemical products such as thinner or benzine. When cleaning the lens surface, remove dust, etc. with a commercially available blower. If the lens becomes very dirty, apply a lens cleaner on a soft cloth or a lens cleaning tissue and wipe the lens in a circular motion from the center of the lens. Do not apply a lens cleaner on the lens surface directly.
Cleaning the inside of E mount body
Do not touch the internal parts (such as lens contacts) of the E mount body. Remove dust away from the inside of E mount body with a commercially available blower*. * Do not use spray blowers that may cause a malfunction
of the camera.
12
Cleaning the camera surface
Clean the camera surface with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water or lukewarm water, then wipe the surface with a dry cloth. To prevent damage to the finish or casing:
• Do not expose the camera to chemical products such as thinner, benzine, alcohol, disposable cloths, insect repellent, sunscreen or insecticide.
• Do not touch the camera with any of the above on your hand.
• Do not leave the camera in contact with rubber or vinyl for a long time.
• The battery will run out quickly if you use the zoom frequently.
• We recommend having spare battery packs handy for two times to three times the expected shooting time, and taking test shots before taking the actual shots.
• The battery pack is not water-resistant. Do not expose the battery pack to water.
• Do not leave the battery pack in extremely hot places, such as in a car or under direct sunlight.
• You may not be able to turn on the camera or the battery may not be effectively charged if the terminal section of the battery is dirty. In this case, wipe any dust off lightly using a soft cloth or a cotton swab to clean the battery.
Notes on charging the battery
• If the charge lamp of the camera flashes during charging, remove the battery being charged, and then insert a separate new battery into the camera to check that it charges correctly. If the battery is charged correctly, a battery error may have occurred.
• If the charge lamp flashes again, this indicates that the charging has stopped temporarily and is on standby because the temperature is outside of the recommended temperature for charging. When the temperature returns to the appropriate range, charging resumes and the charge lamp lights up again. We recommend charging the battery in an ambient temperature from 10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F).

About charging the battery
• Charge the battery pack (sold separately) before using the camera for the first time.
• You can charge the battery even if it is not completely discharged. In addition, you can use the battery even if it is only partially charged.
• Charge the battery in an ambient temperature from 10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F). The battery may not be effectively charged in temperatures outside this range.
About battery life
• The battery life is limited. The battery capacity decreases over time and through repeated use. If the available time of the battery is shortened significantly, it is probably time to replace it with a new one.
• The battery life varies according to how it is stored, the operating conditions, and environment in which each battery pack is used.
Effective use of the battery
• If the ambient temperature is low, the available time of the battery is shortened because the battery performance decreases. To ensure longer battery use we recommend that you put the battery pack in a pocket close to your body to warm it up, and insert it in the camera immediately before you start shooting. If there are any metal objects such as keys in your pocket, be aware of short circuits.
How to store the battery pack

Certain services available through the SOFTWARE may rely upon location information, including, but not limited to, the geographic location of the DEVICE. You acknowledge that for the purpose of providing such services, SONY, the THIRD-PARTY SUPPLIERS or their partners may collect, archive, process and use such location data, and that such ser vices are governed by the privacy policies of SONY or such third party. By using any such services, you agree that you have reviewed the privacy policies applicable to such services and consent to such activities.
SONY, its affiliates, partners and agents will not intentionally use Information to personally identify the owner or user of the SOFTWARE without your knowledge or consent. Any use of Information will be in accordance with the privacy policies of SONY or such third party. SONY’s current privacy policy is located at: www.sony.com/selprivacy.
Please contact applicable third parties for privacy policies relating to personally identifiable and other information you provide when you use or access third party software or services.
Information may be processed, stored or transferred to SONY, its affiliates or agents which are located in countries outside of your country of residence. Data protection and information privacy laws in certain countries may not offer the same level of protection as your country of residence and you may have fewer legal rights in relation to Information processed and stored in, or transferred to, such countries. From time to time, SONY or the THIRD-PARTY SUPPLIERS may automatically update or otherwise modify the SOFTWARE, including, but not limited to, for purposes of enhancement of security functions, error correction and improvement of functions, at such time as you interact with SONY’s or third parties’ servers, or otherwise. Such updates or modifications may delete or change the nature of features or other aspects of the SOFTWARE, including, but not limited to, functions you may rely upon. The failure of SONY to exercise or enforce any right or provision of this EULA shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any part of this EULA is held invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible so as to maintain the intent of this EULA, and the other parts will remain in full force and effect. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods shall not apply to the SOFTWARE or this EULA. Furthermore, this EULA will not be governed or interpreted in any way by referring to any law based on the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (UCITA) or any other act derived from or related to UCITA.
ANY “DISPUTE” THAT IS NOT RESOLVED THROUGH THE INFORMAL NEGOTIATION PROCESS DESCRIBED ABOVE SHALL BE RESOLVED EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH BINDING ARBITRATION. “DISPUTE” is defined as any disagreement, cause of action, claim, controversy, or proceeding between you and any Sony entity related to or arising out of the SOFTWARE or this EULA. DISPUTE is to be given the broadest possible meaning that will be enforced. If a DISPUTE arises, you agree to first give notice to SONY by contacting Sony Electronics Inc. at 16530 Via Esprillo, MZ 1105, San Diego, CA 92127, Attn: Legal Department, and engaging in good faith negotiations to attempt to resolve any DISPUTE for at least 14 days, except that you or Sony (or any of its affiliates) may skip this informal negotiation procedure for DISPUTE enforcing, protecting, or concerning the validity of intellectual property rights.
To begin arbitration, either you or SONY must make a written demand to the other for arbitration. The arbitration will take place before a single arbitrator. It will be administered in keeping with the Expedited Procedures of the Commercial Arbitration Rules, and the Supplementary Proceedings for Consumer-Related disputes when applicable (“Rules”) of the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) in effect when the claim is filed. You may get a copy of AAA’s Rules by contacting AAA at (800) 778-7879 or visiting www.adr.org. The filing fees to begin and carry out arbitration will be shared between you and SONY, but in no event shall your fees ever exceed the amount allowable by the special rules for Consumers Disputes provided for by AAA, at which point SONY will cover all additional administrative fees and expenses. This does not prohibit the arbitrator from giving the winning party their fees and expenses of the arbitration when appropriate pursuant to the Rules. Unless you and SONY agree differently, the arbitration will take place in the county and state where you live, and applicable federal or state law shall govern the substance of any DISPUTE. The Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. § 1, et seq., will govern the arbitration itself and not any state law on arbitration. The arbitrator’s decision will be binding and final, except for a limited right of appeal under the Federal Arbitration Act. The arbitrator may award declaratory or injunctive relief only in favor of the party seeking relief, and only to the extent necessary to provide relief warranted by that party’s individual claim. Any court with jurisdiction over the parties may enforce the arbitrator’s decision.
