Premium G Lens optical design
This 70-350mm (105-525mm full-frame equiv.) super-telephoto zoom lens weighs in at only 22oz.
(625g). The advanced G lens design includes an aspherical element and three ED (Extra-low
Dispersion) glass elements in a precision optical design suppress aberration throughout the zoom
range, including chromatic aberration that can be a problem at super-telephoto focal lengths.
Sharp, clear image quality is easy to achieve at all focal lengths, right out to the image edges.
Three ED (Extra-low dispersion) glass elements
Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements take axial chromatic aberration and chromatic
aberration due to dierences in magnication out of the picture, maximizing resolution and
bokeh while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration, while
signicantly reducing are and ghosting.
XD Linear Motor for fast, precise, quiet AF
Sony’s advanced XD (extreme Dynamic) linear motor technology - the same type used in G
Master series lenses - focuses on and tracks even fast-moving subjects with outstanding speed
and precision. Coupled with the advanced real-time AF capability of the latest compact APS-C
bodies, you have a high-performance, easy-handling system for landscapes, wildlife, and more.
7-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh
The 7-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens, contributing
to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground
and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light. Conventional aperture
blades have at sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light.
Alpha lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost
perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more
natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
Focus hold button, programmable for multiple functions
The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing,
but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to
Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview
or Bright Monitoring.
Linear Response MF
Linear Response MF realizes precise manual focus control, closely equivalent to mechanical
manual focus, which enables linear focus transition to ring rotation angle for repeatable and
accurate manual focus that is especially desirable for MF control during video capture.
Instant auto/manual focus selection
Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of
the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you, or
decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you chose.
Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability
The dust and moisture resistance design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use,
especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures1.
