Welcome to the world of the MiniDisc! Here are some of the capabilities and features you’ll discover with the new MiniDisc Player.

A single press of a switch on the side of the player causes the player lid to open and the MiniDisc to eject.

Keep the main unit in your pocket and operate the MiniDisc player through the “slim stick” remote control. The LCD displays disc and track information, playback mode as well as battery condition.

• The player operates on a single LR6 (size AA) dry battery.

When to replace the battery

You can check the battery condition with the battery indication which is displayed while using the player.

Battery life

Approximately 12 hours of playback can be expected with one LR6 (size AA) alkaline battery (not supplied).

Note

The battery life may be shorter depending on operating conditions and temperature of the location.

Insert an MD.

1 Press OPEN.

Play an MD.

Remote control

1 Connect the headphones to the remote control.

Plug it in firmly all the way.

2 Connect the headphones with the remote control to the i jack. 3 Press > N or . (or press the control towards N/> or . on the

remote control).

The OPERATE lamp on the player lights up and the player starts to play the first track. When using the remote control, a short beep sounds in the headphones.

4 Press VOL +/– to adjust the volume.

The volume indicator appears on the remote control to allow you to check the volume.

To stop play, press x.

The OPERATE lamp on the player goes off. The display on the remote control disappears after a while. When using the remote control, a long beep sounds in the headphones.

Tips

• The OPERATE lamp on the player lights up during playback. When you press x, the lamp goes off.

• The display on the remote control disappears after a while after you have pressed x.

Do not press OPEN during playback. If you do, the lid opens and playback stops.

When using optional headphones

Use headphones with a stereo-miniplug. You cannot use headphones with a microplug.

player during pause (X), the player resumes playback. If you hold down . or > N on the player (or press and hold the control towards . or N/> on the remote control) during pause (X), you can fast forward/rewind without listening to the playback sound.

Once you open the lid, the point to start playback will change to the beginning of the first track.

Playing tracks repeatedly

You can play tracks repeatedly in three ways — all repeat, single repeat, and shuffle repeat.

PLAYMODE

Press PLAYMODE while the player is playing an MD. Each time you press PLAYMODE, the play mode indication changes as follows.

Press DISPLAY on the remote control while the player is playing an MD. Each time you press DISPLAY, the display changes as follows.

To prevent the buttons from being accidentally operated when you carry the player, use this function.

Slide HOLD on the player in the direction of the . to lock the controls of the unit. Slide HOLD on the remote control in the direction of the . to lock the controls of the remote control.

To emphasize bass (DIGITAL MEGABASS) E

The DIGITAL MEGABASS function intensifies low frequency sound for richer quality audio reproduction.

DIGITAL MEGABASS

Set DIGITAL MEGABASS to 1 (weak) or 2 (strong). To cancel the effect, set DIGITAL MEGABASS to 0.

Note

If the sound becomes distorted when emphasizing bass, turn down the volume.

To protect your hearing (AVLS) F

The AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) function keeps down the maximum volume to protect your ears.

Set AVLS to LIMIT. The volume is kept at a moderate level, even if you try to turn the volume above the limited level.

Precautions

On heat build-up

Heat may build up in the player if it is used for an extended period of time. In this case, leave the player to cool down.

On installation

Never use the player where it will be subjected to extremes of light, temperature, moisture or vibration.

On the headphones

Road safety

Do not use headphones while driving, cycling, or operating any motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. It can also be potentially dangerous to play your player at high volume while walking, especially at pedestrian crossings. You should exercise extreme caution or discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.

Preventing hearing damage

Avoid using headphones at high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or discontinue use.

Caring for others

Keep the volume at a moderate level. This will allow you to hear outside sounds and to be considerate of the people around you.

On cleaning

• Clean the player casing with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water or a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzene as it may mar the finish of the casing.

• Wipe the disc cartridge with a dry cloth to remove dirt.

• Dust on the lens may prevent the unit from operating properly. Be sure to close the disc compartment lid after inserting or ejecting an MD.

On dry battery

Incorrect battery usage may lead to leakage of battery fluid or bursting battery. To prevent such accidents, observe the following precautions:

• Install the battery with the + and – poles aligned correctly.

• When the player is not to be used for a long time, be sure to remove the battery.

• If a battery leak should develop, carefully and thoroughly wipe away battery fluid from the battery compartment before inserting new ones.

• Do not carry the dry battery in your pocket or a bag, etc., with metallic objects such as key rings. The terminals of the battery may heat up from a short-circuit and can be dangerous.

On the lid of the battery compartment

The lid of the battery compartment is designed to detach from the main unit when handeled with great force. To reattach the lid to the main unit, follow the steps below:

On the MiniDisc cartridge

• Do not touch the internal disc directly. Forcing the shutter open may damage the internal disc.

• Do not place the cartridge where it will be subjected to light, temperature, moisture or dust.

On mechanical noise

The player gives out mechanical noise while operating, which is caused by the powersaving system of the player. This is not a malfunction.

If you have any questions or problems concerning your player, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.

Troubleshooting

Should any problem persist after you have made these checks, consult your nearest Sony dealer.

The player does not work or works poorly.

•You tried to play with no disc in the player (“NO DISC” flashes on the remote control).

Insert an MD.

•The hold function is activated and the controls are locked. (If you press any of the operation buttons on the player, “HOLD” flashes on the remote control.)

Slide HOLD against the direction of the arrow to release the hold function.

•Moisture has condensed inside the player.

Take the MD out and leave the player’s lid open for several hours until the moisture evaporates.

•The dry battery is weak (“LOW BATT” flashes on the remote control).

Replace the dry battery.

•The dry battery has been installed incorrectly.

Install the battery with correct polarity.

•An MD with no recording on it is inserted (“BLANKDISC” flashes on the remote control).

Insert a recorded MD.

•The player cannot read the disc (it’s scratched or dirty) (“DISC ERR” flashes on the remote control).

Reinsert or replace the disc.

•While operating, the player received a mechanical shock, too much static, abnormal power voltage caused by lightning etc.

Restart as follows. 1 Remove the battery from the

battery compartment.

2 Leave the player for about

30 seconds.

3 Insert the battery into the battery

compartment

The MD is not played normally.

•The player is set to the repeat mode (“ ” is displayed on the remote control).

Press PLAYMODE repeatedly until “ ” disappears, then start playing.

An MD is not played from the first track.

•Disc playing stopped before it came to the last track.

Press . repeatedly or eject and reinsert the MD once to go back to the beginning of the disc, and restart playing after checking the track number in the display.

The DIGITAL MEGABASS does not function.

•The DIGITAL MEGABASS switch is set to 0.

Set the switch to 1 or 2.

Playback sound skips.

•The player is placed where it receives continuous vibration.

Put the player on a stable place.

•A very short track may cause sound to skip.

Sound has a lot of static.

•Strong magnetism from a television or such device is interfering with operation.

Move the player away from the source of strong magnetism.

No sound comes through the headphones.

•The headphones plug is not firmly connected.

Connect the headphones plug firmly to the remote control.

Connect the headphones plug firmly to the i jack.

•Volume is too low.

Adjust the volume by pressing VOL +/– .

•AVLS is on.

Slide AVLS to NORM.

• El diseño de bajo consumo de energía prolonga la duración de las pilas.

¡Reproducción inmediata de un MD!

Se seleccionará automáticamente la reproducción estereofónica o monoaural en función de la fuente de sonido.

Inserte la pila.

Utilice una pila LR6 (de tamaño AA) (no suministrada) para alimentar el tocadiscos. Para una reproducción más larga, se recomienda utilizar una pila alcalina.

2 Inserte la pila.1 Deslice y abra el compartimiento de la pila como indica la ilustración.

Compruebe que los terminales + y – están correctamente orientados.

Cuándo sustituir la pila

Es posible comprobar la capacidad de la pila con la indicación de pila que aparece en el visor mientras se utiliza el tocadiscos.

e La pila se ha agotado. “LOW BATT” parpadea en el visor del mando a distancia y se

desactiva la alimentación.

Longevidad de la pila

Se pueden esperar aproximadamente 12 horas de reproducción con una pila alcalina LR6 (de tamaño AA) (no suministrada).

Nota

El indicador OPERATE del tocadiscos se apaga. El visor del mando a distancia se apaga transcurridos unos instantes. Cuando utilice el mando a distancia, se oirá un pitido largo en los auriculares.

• El indicador OPERATE en el tocadiscos se ilumina durante la reproducción. Se apaga cuando pulse x.

• La indicación del mando a distancia desaparecerá transcurridos unos instantes después de haber pulsado x.

Nota

No pulse OPEN durante la reproducción, ya que en caso contrario la tapa se abrirá y la reproducción se detendrá.

Cuando utilice auriculares opcionales

Utilice auriculares que dispongan de minienchufe estéreo. No es posible utilizar auriculares con microenchufe.

Cuando pulse . o > N en el tocadiscos durante una pausa (X), el tocadiscos continúa con la reproducción. Si mantiene pulsado . o > N en el tocadiscos (o mantiene pulsado el control a . o N/> en el mando a distancia) durante la pausa (X) se puede hacer un avance rápido/rebobinado sin escuchar el sonido reproducido.

Después de abrir la tapa, el punto de inicio de reproducción cambiará al principio del primer tema.

Aparece sólo con minidiscos etiquetados electrónicamente.

Reproducción repetida de temas

Existen tres formas de reproducción repetida de temas — repetición de todos los temas, de un tema y aleatoria.

Utilice esta función para evitar el empleo accidental de los botones al transportar el tocadiscos.

Deslice el interruptor HOLD del tocadiscos en la dirección de . para bloquear los controles del tocadiscos. Deslice el interruptor HOLD del mando a distancia en la dirección de . para bloquear los controles de dicho mando.

Para enfatizar los graves (DIGITAL MEGABASS)

La función DIGITAL MEGABASS intensifica el sonido de baja frecuencia para obtener reproducciones de sonido de mayor calidad.

Deslice DIGITAL MEGABASS. Elija 1 (suave) o 2 (intenso). Para cancelar el efecto, ajuste DIGITAL MEGABASS en la posición 0.

Para proteger los oídos (AVLS)

La función AVLS (Sistema de limitación automática de volumen) limita el volumen máximo para proteger los oídos.

Calentamiento interno

Es posible que se produzca un calentamiento interno del tocadiscos si se utiliza durante mucho tiempo. En este caso, deje que se enfríe.

Instalación

No utilice nunca el tocadiscos en un lugar donde esté expuesto a la luz excesiva, altas temperaturas, humedad ni vibraciones.

Auriculares

Seguridad en carretera

No utilice los auriculares mientras conduce, monta en bicicleta o maneja cualquier vehículo motorizado, ya que supone un peligro en la carretera y es ilegal en algunas zonas. Asimismo, puede ser potencialmente peligroso escuchar el tocadiscos con el volumen alto mientras camina, especialmente en los cruces de peatones. Tenga extrema precaución o deje de utilizarlo en situaciones potencialmente peligrosas.

Prevención de daños a los oídos

Evite utilizar los auriculares con el volumen alto. Los expertos en audición desaconsejan el uso continuo y con el volumen alto. Si oye pitidos en los oídos, reduzca el volumen o deje de utilizar la unidad.

Respeto por los demás

Mantenga el volumen a un nivel moderado. Esto le permitirá escuchar los sonidos del exterior y ser considerado con aquellos que se encuentren a su alrededor.

Limpieza

• Limpie el tocadiscos con un paño suave ligeramente humedecido con agua o con una solución detergente poco concentrada. No utilice estropajos abrasivos, detergentes concentrados ni disolventes como alcohol o bencina, ya que pueden dañar el acabado de la unidad.

• Limpie el cartucho de disco con un paño seco para eliminar la suciedad.

• Si se ha concentrado polvo en la lente, es posible que se produzca un funcionamiento defectuoso de la unidad. Asegúrese de cerrar la tapa del compartimiento de discos después de insertar o expulsar un MD.

Pila común

Es posible que el uso incorrecto de la pila produzca fugas o explosión de la misma. Para evitarlo, tome las siguientes precauciones:

• Instale la pila con los polos + y – alineados correctamente.

• Si no va a utilizar el tocadiscos durante mucho tiempo, asegúrese de extraer la pila.

• Si se producen fugas, limpie a fondo y cuidadosamente el compartimiento de pila para eliminar el líquido derramado antes de insertar otra nueva.

• No transporte la pila común en el bolsillo o en un bolso, etc., con objetos metálicos como llaveros. Los terminales de la pila pueden calentarse debido a un cortocircuito y puede ser peligroso.

Tapa del compartimiento de pila

La tapa del compartimiento de pila suministrada con este tocadiscos se sale cuando se maneje con fuerza excesiva. Para volver a fijar la tapa al tocadiscos, realice los siguientes pasos:

Cartucho del MiniDisc

• No toque directamente el disco en el interior. Si se fuerza el obturador para que se abra, puede dañarse el disco en el interior.

• No coloque el cartucho donde esté expuesto a la luz, a altas temperaturas, a la humedad ni al polvo.

Nota sobre el ruido mecánico

Debido al sistema de ahorro de energía del tocadiscos, éste produce ruido mecánico durante el funcionamiento. Esto no es un fallo de funcionamiento.

Si desea realizar alguna consulta o solucionar algún problema referente al tocadiscos, póngase en contacto con el proveedor Sony más próximo.

Solución de problemas

Si el problema persiste después de realizar las comprobaciones sugeridas, póngase en contacto con el proveedor Sony más próximo.

El tocadiscos no funciona o funciona incorrectamente.

•Ha intentado realizar la reproducción sin haber insertado un disco en el tocadiscos (“NO DISC” parpadea en el mando a distancia).

Inserte un MD.

•La función de retención se activa y los controles están bloqueados. (Si pulsa cualquiera de los botones de funcionamiento en el tocadiscos, parpadea “HOLD” en el mando a distancia.)

Deslice nuevamente HOLD en el sentido de la flecha para soltar la función de retención.

•Se ha condensado humedad en el interior del tocadiscos.

Extraiga el MD y deje abierto el tocadiscos durante varias horas hasta que se evapore la humedad.

•La pila común está descargada (“LOW BATT” parpadea en el mando a distancia).

Sustituya la pila.

•Se ha instalado la pila incorrectament.

Instale la pila con la polaridad correcta.

•Ha insertado un MD sin grabación (“BLANKDISC” parpadea en el mando a distancia).

Inserte un MD grabado.

•El tocadiscos no puede leer el disco (está arañado o sucio) (“DISC ERR” parpadea en el mando a distancia).

Vuelva a insertar el disco o sustitúyalo.

•Durante el funcionamiento, el tocadiscos recibió un golpe mecánico, demasiada electricidad estática, tensión de alimentación anormal causada por relámpagos, etc.

Vuelva a poner la unidad en funcionamiento de la siguiente forma.

1 Saque la pila del compartimiento. 2 No utilice el tocadiscos durante

30 segundos aproximadamente.

3 Coloque la pila en el

compartimiento.

El MD no se reproduce con normalidad.

•El tocadiscos está ajustado en el modo de repetición (aparece “ ” en el mando a distancia).

Pulse PLAYMODE varias veces hasta que “ ” desaparezca y, a continuación, inicie la reproducción.

El MD no se reproduce desde el primer tema.

•El disco en reproducción se ha detenido antes de llegar al último tema.

Pulse . varias veces o expulse y vuelva a insertar el MD una vez para retroceder al comienzo del disco y, a continuación, vuelva a iniciar la reproducción después de comprobar el número de tema en el visor.

No funciona el DIGITAL MEGABASS.

•El interruptor DIGITAL MEGABASS está en 0.

Mueva el interruptor a 1 ó 2.

El sonido de reproducción se omite.

•El tocadiscos está situado en un lugar donde recibe vibraciones constantes.

Sitúe el tocadiscos sobre una superficie estable.

•Es posible que un tema muy corto produzca omisión de sonido.

El sonido presenta mucha electricidad estática.

•El magnetismo intenso de un televisor o dispositivo similar interfiere en el funcionamiento del tocadiscos.

Aléjese de la fuente que emite el magnetismo intenso.

No se escucha el sonido de los auriculares.

•No ha conectado el enchufe de los auriculares con firmeza.

Conecte el enchufe de los auriculares firmemente al mando a distancia.

Conecte el enchufe de los auriculares firmemente en la toma i.

•El volumen es demasiado bajo.

Ajuste el volumen pulsando VOL +/– .

•La función AVLS está activada.

Deslice AVLS a la posición NORM.
