INFORMATION

Precautions

On batteries

• Do not carry dry batteries with coins or other metallic objects.

It can generate heat if the positive and negative terminals of

the batteries are accidentally contacted by a metallic object.

• When you are not going to use your Walkman for a long time,

remove the batteries to prevent damage from battery leakage

and corrosion.

On handling

• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sources, or in a

place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust or sand,

moisture, rain, mechanical shock, or in a car with its windows

closed.

• Do not use cassettes longer than 90 minutes except for long

continuous playback.

• The LCD display may become hard to see or slow down when

using the unit at high temperatures (above 40°C/104°F) or at

low temperatures (below 0°C/32°F). At room temperature, the

display will return to its normal operating condition.

• If the unit has not been used for a long time, set it in the

playback mode to warm it up for a few minutes before

inserting a cassette.

On headphones/earphones

Road safety

Do not use headphones/earphones while driving, cycling, or operating any motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. It can also be potentially dangerous to play your headphones/earphones at high volume while walking, especially at pedestrian crossings. You should exercise extreme caution or discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.

Preventing hearing damage

Do not use headphones/earphones at high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use.

Caring for others

Keep the volume at a moderate level. This will allow you to hear outside sounds and to be considerate to the people around you.

On maintenance

To clean the tape head and path

Use the cleaning cassette CHK-1W (not supplied) every 10 hours of use. Use only the recommended cleaning cassette.

To clean the exterior

Use a soft cloth slightly moistened in water. Do not use alcohol, benzine or thinner. Clean the headphones/earphones plugs periodically.

Troubleshooting

The volume cannot be turned up.

• Set AVLS to NORM.

The display shows incorrect information.

• The batteries are weak. Replace the batteries with new ones.

The display and the operation are not normal.

• Remove the batteries for 30 seconds or more, and then insert them again. If this does not solve the problem, remove the batteries and leave the unit without batteries for 30 minutes or more, and then insert them again. In either case, preset the stations again, since the preset stations are erased from the memory.

To Insert Batteries A

1 Slide and open the battery compartment

lid, and insert two R6 (size AA) dry batteries with correct polarity.

Replace the batteries with new ones when " " flashes in the display.

Precauciones

Pilas

• No lleve las pilas con monedas ni otros objetos metálicos. Si los polos positivo y negativo de las pilas se conectasen accidentalmente, podría generarse calor.

• Cuando no vaya a emplear el Walkman durante mucho tiempo, extraiga las pilas para evitar el daño que podría causar el electrólito de las mismas.

Manejo

• No deje la unidad cerca de fuentes térmicas, ni en un lugar sometido a la luz solar directa, a polvo excesivo, a arena, a la humedad, a la lluvia, ni a golpes, ni en el interior de un automóvil con las ventanillas cerradas.

• No utilice cassettes de más de 90 minutos, excepto para reproducción larga y continua.

•Es posible que el visualizador de cristal líquido sea difícil de ver, o que la velocidad de visualización se reduzca, cuando utilice la unidad a temperaturas altas (más de 40°C) o bajas (menos de 0°C). A la temperatura normal, la visualización volverá a las condiciones normales de funcionamiento.

• Cuando no haya utilizado la unidad durante mucho tiempo, póngala en el modo de reproducción y deje que se caliente durante algunos minutos antes de insertarle un cassette.

Sobre los auriculares con casco/ auriculares

Seguridad en la carretera

No utilice los auriculares con casco/auriculares cuando conduzca, vaya en bicicleta, o maneje cualquier vehículo motorizado. Esto podría suponer un peligro para el tráfico, y es ilegal en ciertas zonas. También puede resultar potencialmente peligroso escuchar a través de los auriculares a gran volumen mientras camine, especialmente en pasos cebra. En situaciones potencialmente peligrosas, deberá tener mucho cuidado o dejar de utilizar los auriculares.

Cuidado de sus oídos

Evite utilizar los auriculares con casco/auriculares a gran volumen. Los expertos en oídos desaconsejan la escucha prolongada a gran nivel. Si experimenta un silbido en sus oídos, reduzca el volumen o deje de escuchar a través de los auriculares.

Mantenimiento

Para limpiar el cabezal y recorrido de cinta

Utilice el cassette de limpieza CHK-1W (no suministrado) cada 10 horas de uso. Utilice únicamente el cassette de limpieza recomendado.

Para limpiar el exterior

Utilice un paño suave ligeramente humedecido con agua. No utilice alcohol, bencina ni diluyente. Limpie periódicamente los enchufes de los auriculares.

Solución de problemas

El volumen no aumenta.

• Ajuste AVLS en NORM.

El visualizador muestra información incorrecta.

• Las pilas están débiles. Reemplace las pilas por otras nuevas.

La indicación y el funcionamiento no son normales.

• Extraiga las pilas durante 30 segundos o más y, a continuación, insértelas. Si el problema persiste, vuelva a extraer las pilas y deje la unidad sin pilas durante 30 minutos o más, y después insértelas. En ambos casos, puesto que las emisoras memorizadas se han borrado de la memoria, almacénelas de nuevo.

Preparativos

Para insertar pilas A

1 Deslice y abra la tapa del compartimiento

Playing a Tape B

1 Insert a cassette and set NORM•CrO2/

METAL to match the tape type.

2 Press NPLAY.

Adjust the volume with VOLUME.

If you leave the unit after the tape has been wound or rewound, the batteries will be consumed rapidly. Be sure to press x STOP.

•Do not open the cassette holder while the tape is running.

Switch MODE to select the desired mode.

Listening to the Radio

1 If the HOLD function is turned on, slide the

HOLD switch in the opposite direction of the arrow to unlock the controls.

Make sure that the tape has stopped completely.

2 Press TV, FM or AM to select the desired

band.

3 Press TUNING +/– to tune in to the

desired station. If you keep pressing TUNING+/– for a few seconds, the Walkman will start tuning to the stations automatically.

To turn off the radio

Press OFF.

To improve broadcast reception C

•For TV/FM: Extend the headphones/earphones cord (antenna) or adjust DX•LOCAL.

•For AM: Reorient the unit itself.

Presetting Radio Stations

You can store radio stations in the unit’s memory. You can preset up to 35 stations (7 for TV, 21 for FM and 7 for AM ). First preset the stations received with automatic scanning. Then tune in the stations that are not received automatically and preset them manually.

Presetting Automatically Scanned Stations

1 Press TV, FM or AM to turn on the radio

and select the desired band.

2 Press ENTER for more than 3 seconds.

Preset number 1 will flash in the display and the Walkman starts scanning the stations from the lower frequencies and stops for about 3 seconds when a station is received.

3 If you wish to preset the received station,

press ENTER while the preset number is flashing.

The received station is preset on preset number 1 and the unit starts scanning for the next receivable station.

4 Repeat Step 3 until all receivable stations

are preset.

To stop scanning

Press OFF. The radio is turned off at the same time.

Note

•If stations are already stored, the newly preset stations replace the old ones when the above procedure is completed.

Presetting Stations Manually

1 Press TV, FM or AM to turn on the radio

and select the desired band.

2 Press ENTER.

The frequency digits and a preset number flash in the display.

3 While the frequency digits and the preset

number are flashing, tune in to a station you wish to store using TUNING+/–, and select a preset number using PRESET+/–.

4 While the frequency digits and the preset

number are flashing, press ENTER.

Notes

•If you cannot complete step 3 or 4 while the indications are flashing, repeat from step 2.

•If a station is already stored, the new station replaces the old one.

To play the preset radio stations

1 Press TV, FM or AM to turn on the radio

and select the desired band.

2 Press PRESET+/–.

Using Other Functions

To lock the controls

Set the HOLD switch in the direction of the G mark to lock the controls. The hold function only locks the radio operation buttons and MEGA BASS.

To emphasize bass sound

Press MEGA BASS. “MEGA BASS” appears in the display.

Notes

•If the sound is distorted when MEGA BASS is activated, turn down the volume of the main unit or select normal mode.

•Bass emphasis may not show great effect if the volume is turned up too high.

To protect your hearing — AVLS

Set AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) to LIMIT. The maximum volume is kept to down to protect your ears, even if you turn the volume up.

3 Pulse TUNING+/– para sintonizar la

emisora deseada. Si mantiene presionada TUNING+/– durante algunos segundos, el Walkman comenzará a sintonizar automáticamente emisoras.

Para desconectar la radio

Pulse OFF.

Para mejorar la recepción de la emisión

• Para TV/FM: Extienda el cable (antena) de los auriculares, o ajuste DX•LOCAL.

Memorización de emisoras de radio

Es posible almacenar emisoras de radio en la memoria de la unidad. Puede memorizar hasta 35 emisoras (7 para TV, 21 para FM y 7 para AM). Primero memorice las emisoras recibidas con la exploración automática. A continuación, sintonice las emisoras que no se reciban automáticamente y memorícelas de forma manual.

Memorización de las emisoras exploradas automáticamente

1 Pulse TV, FM o AM para activar la radio y

seleccione la banda que desee.

2 Pulse ENTER durante más de 3 segundos.

El número de memorización 1 parpadeará en el visor y el Walkman comenzará a explorar las emisoras desde las frecuencias más bajas, parando unos 3 segundos al recibir una emisora.

3 Si desea memorizar la emisora recibida,

pulse ENTER mientras parpadea el número de memorización.

La emisora recibida se memorizará con el número de memorización 1 y la unidad comenzará a buscar la siguiente emisora.

4 Repita el paso 3 hasta que se memoricen

todas las emisoras que puedan recibirse.

Para detener la exploración

Pulse OFF. La radio se desactivará al mismo tiempo.

Nota

•Si ya hay emisoras almacenadas, las emisoras recién memorizadas sustituirán a las anteriores al realizar el procedimiento anterior.

4 Mientras parpadean los dígitos de

frecuencia y el número de memorización, pulse ENTER.

Notas

•Si no puede completar los pasos 3 o 4 mientras las indicaciones estén parpadeando, repita la operación desde el paso 2.

•Si la emisora ya está almacenada, la nueva reemplazará a la antigua.

Para sintonizar emisoras memorizadas

1 Pulse TV, FM o AM para activar la radio y

seleccione la banda que desee.

2 Pulse PRESET+/– .

Utilización de otras funciones

Para bloquear los controles

Para bloquear los controles, ajuste el interruptor HOLD en la dirección de la marca G. La función HOLD sólo bloquea los botones de empleo de la radio y MEGA BASS.

Para acentuar el sonido de graves

Pulse MEGA BASS. El visor mostrará “MEGA BASS”.

Notas

•Si el sonido se distorsiona con MEGA BASS activado, disminuya el volumen de la unidad principal o seleccione el modo normal.

•La acentuación de los graves puede no tener mucho efecto si el volumen está ajustado a un nivel demasiado alto.

Para proteger sus oídos — AVLS

Ajuste AVLS (Sistema de limitación automática del volumen) en LIMIT. El volumen máximo se mantendrá a un nivel determinado con el fin de proteger sus oídos, aunque aumente el volumen.
