Getting Started

Hooking up the system

Perform the following procedure 1 to 4 to hook up your system using the supplied cords and accessories.
AM loop antenna
FM antenna

1 Connect the speakers.
Connect the speaker cords to the SPEAKER terminals as the following.

2 Connect the FM/AM antennas.
Set up the AM loop antenna, then connect it.

3 For models with a voltage selector, set
VOLTAGE SELECTOR to the local power line voltage.
4 Connect the power cord to a wall outlet.
The demonstration appears in the display. If the plug of the power cord does not fit
your wall outlet, attach the supplied adapter on to the plug (for models with a plug adapter). To turn on the system, press ?/1.
When carrying this system
Perform the following procedure to protect
the CD mechanism.
1 Make sure that the disc is removed from
the system.
2 Press ?/1 while holding down CD u
until “STANDBY” appears. When you release the buttons, “LOCK” appears.
3 Unplug the power cord.

Inserting two R6 (size AA) batteries into the remote

Tip
When the remote no longer operates the system, replace both batteries with new ones.
Note
If you do not use the remote for a long period of time, remove the batteries to avoid possible damage from battery leakage.

Attaching the speaker pads

Attach the supplied speaker pads to the bottom of the speakers to stabilize the speakers and prevent them from slipping.

Setting the clock

1 Turn on the system.
2 Press CLOCK/TIMER SET on the
remote.
“CLOCK” appears.
3 Press . or > on the remote to set
the hour.
4 Press ENTER.
The minute indication flashes.
5 Press . or > on the remote to set
the minute.
CD

Loading a CD

1 Press Z.
The disc tray opens.
2 Place a CD with the label side up on the
disc tray.
When you play a CD single (8 cm CD), place it on the inner circle of the tray.
6 Press ENTER.
The clock starts working.
Tip
If you make a mistake while setting the clock, press x, then start over from step 2.
To adjust the clock
1 Press CLOCK/TIMER SET on the remote. 2 Press . or > on the remote to select
“CLOCK”, then press ENTER.
3 Do the same procedures as step 3 to 6
above.
Note
You cannot set the clock in the Power Saving Mode.
3 Press Z again to close the disc tray.

Playing a CD
— Normal Play/Shuffle Play/Repeat
Play
This system lets you play the CD in different play modes.

1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly (or press
CD on the remote) to switch the function to CD.
2 Press PLAY MODE/TUNING MODE in
stop mode repeatedly until the mode you want appears in the display.
Select To play
no display (Normal Play)
SHUFFLE (Shuffle Play)
PGM (Program Play)
The tracks on the CD in original order.
The tracks on the CD in random order.
The tracks on the CD in the order you want them to be played (see “Programing CD tracks” on page 10).

Tip
You can start playing from the desired track in Normal Play or Program Play. Slide the knob to l or to L (or press . or > on the remote) until the desired track number appears after step 1.

play until “REPEAT” or “REPEAT 1” appears. REPEAT: For all the tracks on the CD up to five times. REPEAT 1: For a single track only. To cancel playing repeatedly, press REPEAT/FM MODE until “REPEAT” or “REPEAT 1” disappears.

Programing CD tracks
— Program Play
You can make a program of up to 25 tracks.
1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly (or press
CD on the remote) to switch the function to CD.
2 Press PLAY MODE/TUNING MODE
repeatedly until “PGM” appears.
3 Slide the knob to l or to L (or
press . or > on the remote) until the desired track number appears.

4 Press ENTER.
The track is programed.
5 To program additional tracks, repeat
steps 3 and 4.

Clear a track from the end
Add a track to the end of the program in stop mode
Tips
• The program you made remains after Program Play finishes. To play the same program again, press CD NX.
• “- -.- -” appears when the total CD program time exceeds 100 minutes, or when you select a CD track whose number is 21 or over.
Press PLAY MODE/TUNING MODE repeatedly until “PGM” and “SHUFFLE” disappear.
Press CLEAR on the remote in stop mode.
Perform steps 3 and 4.
6 Press CD NX (or N on the remote).
