Owner's Record
The model number is located at the rear and the serial number is located in the battery compartment. Record the serial number in the space provided below. Refer to them whenever you call upon your Sony dealer regarding this product.

Listening to the radio

Set FUNCTION to FM or AM.

Set FUNCTION to TAPE/RADIO OFF.
To improve broadcast reception
Reorient the antenna for FM. Reorient the player itself for AM.

When opening and closing the cassette compartment lid, be sure to hold the player. Otherwise the player may fall over.

• For best results, move the player away from the TV.

Playing a tape

Set FUNCTION to TAPE/RADIO OFF.

Set MEGA BASS to ON.

Stop recording BSTOP
When the tape ends, the recording stops.
Tips
• For best results, use the AC power source.
• Adjusting the volume will not affect the recording level.
• If the AM programme makes a whistling sound, set ISS (Interference Suppress Switch) (at the rear) to the positicm that most decreases the noise. Normally set the switch to "2".
Note
While recording from the built-in microphone, you cannot monitor the sound through the headphones.

Insert the right corner of the lid and then insert the left comer aligning It to the groove of the battery compartment.
Notes
• To use the plaver on batteries, disconnect the AC power adaptor from the plaver. The plaver does not operate on batteries as long as the AC power adaptor is connected.
• Replace the batteries when the OPR/BATT indicator dims or when the player stops operating. Replace all the batteries with new ones.

Troubleshooting Precautions

There is no audio.
• Connect the .AC power adaptor securely.
• Insert the batteries properly.
• Replace all the batteries if they are weak.
• Unplug the headphones.
• Adjust the volume
• Set FUNCTION to the position vou want to operate.
Cassette cannot be inserted.
• Insert the cassette properlv.
• Press «STOP to release -^PLAY
The #REC button does not function.
• No cassette is in the tape compartment.
• Make sure the safety tab on the cassette is in place.
Poor playback,recording or erasing quality.
• Dirty heads. Clean the unit (as shown) with a cotton swab slightlv moistened with cleaning fluid or alcohol.
• Demagnetize the heads and all metal parts in the tape path with a commerciallv available tape head demagnetizer.

• Should any solid object or liquid fall into th plaver, unplug the plaver, and have it checl by qualified personnel before operating it a further.
• For .AC operation, use the supplied .AC pow'er adaptor,
do not use an\ Polarity of the plug other type.
• Unplug the plaver from the wall outlet whe is not to be used for an extended period of time.
• For battery operation, use four size AA (R6 batteries.
• When the batteries are not to be used, remo them to avoid damage that can be caused h' battery leakage or corrosion.

• Do not leave the plaver in a location near hi sources, or in a place subject to direct sunli;. excessive dust or mechanical shock.
• Do not place anything within 10 mm of the side of the cabinet. The ventilation holes m be unobstructed for the plaver to operate properlv and to prolong the life of its components.
• Since a strong magnet is used for the speak» keep personal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring-wound vxatches awa\' fror the player to pre\’ent possible damage from the magnet.
• If the player has not been used for a long tu set it in the playback mode to warm it up ft few minutes before inserting a cassette.

• The use of a cassette with more than 90 minutes of plav time is not recommended except for long, continuous recording or playback.
