A breakthrough in digital imaging realism for ultra-fine detail and truly natural color
Images of singular be auty, from a sensor like no other
Only a company like Sony, with extende d experience in semi conductor and microprocessor manufacturing, could have developed the 90 0’s remarkable new 24.6- megapixel
1
35mm full-frame Exmor
™
CMOS sensor. Designed specifically to take advantage of the superb power of t he high-prec ision series lenses, its high pixel count and large size assu re enhanced image d etail and a wid er dynamic range that en ables colors and subtle tonal gradatio ns to be captured just as the human eye perceives them.
24.6-megapixel Exmor™ CMOS 35mm full-frame imaging
The DSLR A900 came ra image sensor is designed from the grou nd up for 35mm full-frame imaging, and is produced using proprietary Sony
®
planarization technologies to ensure an ultra-flat sur face across the entire imaging area. Instead of a si ngle analog/digital converter, the sensor uses over 6000 o n-chip column-p arallel analog/digital converters to convert analog signals to nois e-resistant digital signals at the earl iest possible stage. In addition, noise reduction is appli ed both before and after ana log/digital conversion to ensure cleaner signal output. The result is not only high er image quality, but also b lazingly fast sensor response.
Dual BIONZ™ image processing for truly lifelike and natural colo r
Image processing on t he 900 gets a big boost in speed a nd power from new Dual BIONZ imag e processing engines. As a result, the 90 0’s massive amount of image data capture d by the
24.6-meg apixel Exmor CMOS sensor can be processed instantl y, assuring you of quick shooting respons e and truly natural, what-you-see-is-what-you-get color and tonal gradati on. In addition, the Dual BIONZ en gines apply user selectable noise redu ction algorithms twice — once prio r to RAW data conversion and again du ring image processing — to ensure an absol ute minimum of noise in final i mage data.

D-Rang e Optimizer for rich tone gradations in high-contra st light
When photographing scen es that contain extremes of light and shadow, it can be difficul t to capture the fu ll range of tonal gradations th at the human eye can see. But with the 900’s D-Ra nge Optimizer function, the camera analyzes t he scene for you, and automatically adjusts gradation reproduction parameters to assure optimum exposure bala nce, with richer highli ght and shadow detail.
In Standard mode, the D -Range Optimizer analyzes th e overall imag e before performing th e optimization, and in Advanced mode,5 it analyzes each area of the compos ition separately. On the 900, improved algorithms provide even b etter performance, wit h a choice of Advanced Auto and Advanced Level
3 high-prec ision metering modes for greater shooting versatilit y
The 90 0 is equipped with a 40- segment honeycomb-pattern metering sensor that uses advanced algor ithms to ensure balanced exposures under a wide ran ge of lighting conditions. A convenient 3- way switch on the back of the ca mera allows you to choose between 40 -segment honeycomb-pattern metering, centerweighted metering, or spot meterin g according to your shooting ne eds.
Versatile white balance sett ings for superior color in any light
The 900’s versatile range of white balance settin gs can be instantly accessed via a but ton on the top of the camera. In additio n to Auto white balance mode the re are user-tunable presets for Daylight, Shade, Clou dy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, and Flash lighting, as well as an adju stable Color Temperature mode and th ree user-configurab le Custom modes. White balance bracketing, which records a single frame at th ree different white balan ce settings, can also be set via the Drive mo de menu for easy best-shot sel ection.
Exposure effect simu lation
Another advanced function introduced for the first time on the 90 0 is Intelligent Preview. Using this funct ion, you can simulate the ef fect of various D-Rang e Optimizer, exposure compensation, and white balance settings, and display the result on the LCD monitor without actuall y taking a picture. It’s a great way to fine-t une image adjustments in a dvance when working with a tripod an d complex shooting setups.
Quick access to exposure mode s.
Standard exposure modes acc essible from the top-mou nted mode di al include Program Auto, Apert ure priority, Shutter-speed priority, Manual, and Auto.
Exposure bracketing up to ±2EV for secure “best-shot” capture
Exposure bracketing can be set vi a the Drive mode button to enab le bestshot selection from a seri es of images. In keeping with the 90 0’s high performance stan dards, the range of
selectabl e options includes 3-frame or 5-frame brac keting in 0.3EV, 0.5EV, or 0.7EV increments, as well as new 3-frame ±2EV brac keting that makes it easy to create stunningly re alistic high dynamic range co mposite images.
