This document provides the latest information on supported and recommended peripherals for the SD-500, SD-1000, and SD-2000 Encoders on Windows. It supersedes any previous information you may have and includes the following topics:

SD-500 Encoder Requirements

SD-500 System Requirements

The minimum system requirements for the SD-500 include.
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1
Microsoft DirectShow 8.1
1.7 GHz CPU
512 MB system memory
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
Monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution (1280 x 1024 recommended), 24-bit color (32-bit color recommended)
200 MB of hard drive space on system drive for the SD-series encoder application and related files
Separate hard drive for video and audio files (9–18 GB recommended)

SD-500 CPU Requirements

The following CPUs are recommended for use with the SD-500. Other CPUs may also be compatible but these are the ones recommended by Sonic.

You can use the SD-500 with the following recommended display adapters.

SD-500 Sound Card Requirements

A sound card is required when using an SD-500. The following sound cards from Creative Labs are recommended.

Machine Control Adapters for the SD-500

If using an SD-500 to control a video machine via its RS-422 port, Sonic recommends the following RS-232 -> RS-422 converters.

SD-1000/2000 Encoder Requirements

SD-1000/2000 System Requirements

The minimum system requirements for the SD-1000 and SD-2000 include:
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1
Microsoft DirectShow 8.1
Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 or later
1.7 GHz CPU
1 GB system memory
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
Monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution (1280 x 1024 recommended), 24-bit color (32-bit color recommended)
200 MB of hard drive space on system drive for the SD-series encoder application and related files
Separate hard drive for video and audio files (9–18 GB recommended)
Note: If using an SD-1000/2000 with Windows XP, you must enable Bus Mastering in the BIOS settings. For
information on changing BIOS settings, refer to the manufacturer’s documentation included with your computer.

SD-1000/2000 CPU Requirements

The following CPUs are recommended for use with the SD-1000 and SD-2000. Other CPUs may also be compatible but these are the ones recommended by Sonic.
