Congratulations on the purchase of your new Phone Adapter 2 wireless accessory. Your Phone Adapter 2 is intended to be used together with Sonic SoundGate devices and Sonic hearing instruments. This enables you to communicate wirelessly with a phone conversation partner via a landline phone (analogue/PSTN). Great care and attention has been paid to ensure that your device has the highest quality and is easy to use and maintain.
Please read the entire contents of this booklet before using your Phone Adapter 2. It contains instructions and important information about its use and handling.

General Warnings
Familiarize yourself with the following general warnings before using your Phone Adapter 2.
Products to be connected to external equipment
The safety of the use of the Phone Adapter 2
with the auxiliary input cable is determined by the external signal source. When the input cable is connected to mains-operated equipment, this equipment must comply with IEC-60065, IEC-60601, IEC-60950, or equivalent safety standards.
The Phone Adapter 2 is designed to comply
with the most stringent Standards of International Electromagnetic Compatibility. However, the Phone Adapter 2 may cause interference with other medical devices. Please contact relevant personnel to obtain permission before using the Phone Adapter 2 in hospitals or similar venues.

The Phone Adapter 2 is not a toy and therefore
should be kept out of the reach of children or anyone else who might swallow parts or otherwise cause injury to themselves. Special attention should be paid to smaller components in order to prevent children from swallowing them and choking. If a part is swallowed, see a doctor immediately.
The Phone Adapter 2 is intended for residential
use with an analog phone line. The Phone Adapter 2 is not intended for use with digital phones that may be part of a digital/commercial system. Unintended use with a digital phone system may result in lack of functionality, malfunction or damage to the Phone Adapter 2 and will invalidate the warranty. If you are unsure of the type of phone system in use in your home, or at your workplace, we recommend that you contact your local phone company before installing the Phone Adapter 2.

Activating the Phone Adapter 2 for the First Time
Before using with your landline telephone, the Phone Adapter 2 must be connected to a power outlet and an active landline telephone.
The following pages offer easy step-by-step instructions on how to install and operate your Phone Adapter 2 device.

Setting Up the Phone Adapter 2
Ensure the Phone Adapter 2 is connected to a power outlet using the power adapter included in the Phone Adapter 2 packaging. The power indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 will illuminate green when power is connected.

Remove the telephone cable from an active landline telephone (or base station).*
Insert the telephone cable removed from the landline phone into the Phone “IN” connector of the Phone Adapter 2.

Insert one end of the standard analog phone cable included in the Phone Adapter 2 packaging into the Phone “OUT” connector of the Phone Adapter 2.
Insert the opposite end of the same standard analog phone cable into the landline telephone (or base station).*
Lift the handset from your landline phone. You should now be able to hear the dial tone from the handset speaker.
* If your telephone or base station does not have a detachable plug for the landline connection, you should either try using an alternative phone or a technician must be contacted to complete this installation.

Pairing SoundGate with the Phone Adapter 2
Phone Adapter 2 may be used with all versions of SoundGate. Please follow the instructions below, specific to the version of your SoundGate.

Pairing with SoundGate 2
Ensure the Phone Adapter 2 is connected to a power outlet and the SoundGate 2 battery is charged and powered ON. The power indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 and the SoundGate 2 should be illuminated green.
1. Press and hold the SoundGate 2 power key for 5 – 6 seconds until the SoundGate 2 status indicator starts flashing blue rapidly.
2. Place the SoundGate 2 on top of the Phone Adapter 2 – the pairing can take up to 60 seconds. The pairing is completed when the Phone Adapter 2 power indicator turns stable blue.

Pairing with SoundGate
Ensure the Phone Adapter 2 is connected to a power outlet and the SoundGate battery is charged and the key lock is in the unlocked (green) position. The power indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 should be illuminated green.
1. Press and hold the Bluetooth
®
key for 6 – 8 seconds
until the blue light flashes rapidly.
2. Place the SoundGate on top of the Phone Adapter 2 – the pairing can take up to 60 seconds. The pairing is completed when the Phone Adapter 2 power indicator turns stable blue.

For optimal use with the Phone Adapter 2, ensure the SoundGate is worn with the neck strap antenna and that the hearing instruments are powered on.
Make a phone call
1. Press the SoundGate phone key. You will hear a dial tone in the hearing instruments and the SoundGate phone key will illuminate green. The Phone Adapter 2 status indicator will also be illuminated green while streaming a call.
2. Pick up the handset from your landline phone and dial a phone number. Then return the handset to the landline phone cradle. You will now hear the call tone.
3. When the other party answers the call, the phone conversation can begin. To ensure optimal sound quality for the person you are speaking with, it is recommended to wear your neck loop and position the SoundGate microphone 4–12 inches (10–30 cm) from your mouth.

4. To end the phone call at any time, press the SoundGate phone key. The phone key on the SoundGate and the phone indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 will no longer illuminate and the previous listening program will resume in the hearing instruments.

Answer a phone call
1. You will hear a call tone in your hearing instruments when your landline telephone receives an incoming call. The phone indicator on the Phone Adapter 2 and the phone key on the SoundGate will blink green.
2. Press the SoundGate phone key to accept the call. The SoundGate phone key and the Phone Adapter 2 status indicator will illuminate green.
3. The call is now directed to the hearing instruments and the phone conversation can begin. To ensure optimal sound quality for the person you are speaking with, it is recommended to wear your neck loop and position the SoundGate microphone 4–12 inches (10–30 cm) from your mouth.

For SoundGate 2 only
If you wish to reject the incoming call, simply press and hold the volume down key on the SoundGate 2 for 2 – 3 seconds.

Additional Information
Turn off the Phone Adapter 2
If you do not wish to receive calls to your SoundGate, turn off the Phone Adapter 2 by disconnecting the power adapter. For normal use, the Phone Adapter 2 uses very little power so it is not necessary to turn it off.
Range
The Phone Adapter 2 has a range of up to around 98 feet (30 meters) to your SoundGate 2, depending on furniture and walls between the devices.

Due to the limited size available on the device, many of the relevant approval markings are found in this document.
The emission power from the Phone Adapter 2 is max. 39 dBμV/m @ 3 meters and is well below international emission limits for Human Exposure. The Phone Adapter 2 complies with international standards concerning Electromagnetic Compatibility.
