QUICK START INSTRUCTIONS
In order to configure a system, you must have a PC with an Internet browser installed and one free serial port.
To configure the system, use the following procedure
1. Using the supplied Interface Cable, connect the free serial port on your computer to the “Debugger”port on the Control 2.
2. Disable any PC software that uses the serial port.
3. Insert the Navigator Network CD into your computer.
A local web server will run, and your browser will be started.
(If it does not start automatically,run the “winstart.bat” file from the CD.)
4. Follow the instructions displayed in your browser.
5. When prompted to log in,use the following login informa­tion: User = Admin
Password = sonance
The login information is case sensitive. You must use a cap­i t a l “A” w h e n t y p i n g i n “Ad m i n ,” a n d “ s o n a n c e” m u s t a p p e a r in all lowercase letters.
6. The online instruction will lead you through the rest of the configuration procedure.

CONFIGURING THE NAVIGATOR NETWORK
Introduction
The Sonance Navigator Network makes multi-room audio distribution and con­trol simple and reliable. With a simple press of a button on the keypad, your customer can listen to any configured audio source (TV, CD player, radio, etc.). There is nothing complex to learn.
You can configure the Navigator Network system using a standard PC and web browser. Just wire it up,point,click ,dis­connect the PC, and turn it over to the client. Future client changes or repairs are just as easy: plug a laptop computer into the system,and you can make changes or restore settings.
We strive to make simple things easy, so complex things are possible. At the heart of the system is a powerful multi-tasking
computer, and a network that can support many additional devices. Once you have set up a few simple systems,we encour­age you to explore available expansion devices.
Configuring the Navigator Network
The system is configured using a standard web browser. You connect a cable from your PC to the control system, and run a special web server right on your computer.
Completing a configuration requires:
A PC with a working Internet browser installed
An available and working 9-pin serial port
The cable from your dealer kit
The Dealer Kit CD
A Control 2 processor, with or without attached devices
Note: Your PC must have a working web browser. While you will not be connecting to the Internet during the configuration, your computer must have working Internet capabilities. The minimum browser requirement is Netscape 4.5 or Internet Explorer 5. Computers with either Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems are supported.
We recommend connecting your computer to the Control 2 only. later, once everything is working, you can connect all the keypads and other devices. For customer installations, you have your choice of configuring the Control 2 in isolation, or configuring it with all the devices live and interactive.
To configure the system, use the following procedure:
Step 1: Hook power to the Control 2 processor. Verify the light
on the front winks dim, then returns to bright.
Step 2: Using the supplied cable, hook your PC to the Control
2. It is easiest to use serial port COM1, but any func­tioning serial port is OK.
Step 3: Close down all other programs that are using the seri-
al port. If you have a palm handheld organizer, or another similar brand,disable the hot sync” utility.
Step 4: Insert the Sonance Navigator Network CD. The CD will
start automatically, running first the web server soft­ware and then starting your browser.

If the software does not start automatically, run “win- start.batfrom the CD.
During this process you may be asked to make a con­nection to the Internet. This is optional. You may accept or decline this request.
Step 5: If all goes well, you will see a page similar to the one
shown above. Press “Configure & Test Connection”to get started. Solutions to any problems will be shown in your browser window.
Step 6: You must enter a user name and password to start con
figuring the system. When prompted to log in, use the following login information:
User = Admin Password = sonance
The login information is case sensitive. You must use a capital “A” when typing in “Admin,” and “sonance must appear in all lowercase letters.
Step 7: Configure the system. All instructions are provided in
your browser window.
Note: all configuration information is stored within the Control 2 processor. You cannot configure anything unless you are connected to a Control 2.
TROUBLESHOOTING
I can’t see the Welcome page in my browser.
Windows 95 Issues
If you see the error box shown below,your Windows 95 instal­lation requires an update. Direct your browser to http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads. Download and install the file labeled “Windows Socket 2 Update.” Te s t your Internet connection again before proceeding.
A JavaScript Error Message
JavaScript must be enabled in your browser. A recent browser version is required. If you need to update your browser, instal­lation files for the Netscape browser can be found on the CD.
Use of a Proxy to Connect to the Internet
Some internet connections are not direct. They use a “proxy” server that sits in between the PC and the Internet. Check your web browser options or preferences to see if a proxy is enabled. If a proxy setting is present,there are two options:
1. You may disable the proxy server during configuration. This will also disable your Internet connection.
2. You may configure the proxy settings to exclude your local machine.
Conflicts with Other Software
Serial ports on the PC cannot be shared by multiple programs. You must quit any software that uses the serial port. In rare cases, you must exit other networking software.
If you have a personal handheld organizer (such as a Palm),be sure to exit the synchronization utility. With Windows com­puters,when in doubt, reboot. We recommend rebooting your computer before attempting to run the supplied software.

Bad Serial Port
Are you sure the serial port actually works? Some PCs ship with serial ports that are disabled (in the BIOS configuration). Sometimes PC serial ports conflict with each other. Twenty­five pin serial ports require a 25 to 9 pin adapter. A working and reliable 9 pin serial port is required to use this software. Please resolve any serial port reliability concerns before con­tacting technical support. Most common “PC Doctor”packages include a special loopback connector that can be used to diag­nose serial port problems.
Backing Up Your Work
After you have spent time configuring a system, you probably want to save your work. The web interface provides a way to save a complete backup of the configuration.You should keep a few things in mind when backing up data.
Don’t rely on leaving a floppy at the customer site.
You should name each backup file with a unique identifier;
it is easy to get an old and new backup confused.
Without a good system for storing backup files, it can be a real challenge to find the proper files a few years later. Make sure that by the time you need the backup,you’ll still be able to find it.
Interface Cable Description
The cable required to configure the system has a six conductor modular plug on one end and a D9 female plug on the other end. Flat six conductor telephone conductor cable is used. The pinout is shown in the diagram.
The communications settings are as follows: 19.2kbps,no par­ity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit,no flow control.
You may use any terminal emulation program to check the cable and connection. With the cable and software connected, press reset on the Control 2. You should see a welcome message and a “Debug>” prompt. For a quick check of the software, type PING: 100; the Control 2 should respond with PING:101.
