SECTION 1: SYSTEM OVERVIEW
SECTION 1
Systems Overview
Thank you for purchasing a Solstice™ Network Video Recorder! Solstice is a standalone NVR for systems with IP cameras, including the latest multi-megapixel resolution cameras in the industry. This NVR denes a new generation of network recording solutions, characterized by easy usage, wide device support, compact dimensions, low power consumption, and reliable operation.
You can watch and store video from your IP cameras, easily nd, play and export recorded videos. In addition to the exibility of recording modes denitions, this NVR can react on specic events such as recording video only when the door is locked, turning PTZ cameras, control external devices etc. The NVR uses surveillance grade SATA hard drives to record data.
1.1 System description
The Solstice NVR is a network based device that provides administration of digital security devices (cameras, sensors) and their data. The user (administrator or security monitor user) communicates with NVR via a web browser interface from their PC. The number of devices that can connect to the NVR concurrently diers according to the specic Solstice model.
The NVR provides a centralized repository for collection of and access to video from the devices. The system administrator can dene the conditions under which the video recording made and for how long. The records are stored in the central le system that can be searched and browsed. Videos and pictures from the cameras can be stored in a le by a few clicks.
The system displays current data in a uniform manner, independent of the given equipment. It is possible to simultaneously display outputs from various devices while playing back recorded information. The user initially selects the devices from which he/she want to see the outputs simultaneously (i.e. view), and can save the setup. Views can be stored and edited, so it is not necessary to redene your view each time.
Your NVR was designed with several advanced features, including:
Live View and Playback
Simultaneous Live View and Playback display
Drag and drop customizable viewing grid (live views, recordings, values)
Full screen mode and support for multiple viewing screens
Automatic or manual video stream selection
Digital zoom feature with digital pan/tilt

SECTION 4: SYSTEM / REMOTE ACCESS
SECTION 4
System / Remote Access
This section includes some general guidelines for accessing your NVR remotely, such as from a computer on the same LAN, or from the internet. Consider the following:
Remote access to the SLS-ENVR based camera system requires conguration of router port forwarding of SLS-ENVR (two
ports) and also for all connected devices (two ports per camera)
Remote access should be congured after you congure the cameras and other devices in the system
Automatic router control considerations: SLS-ENVR tries to setup port forwarding automatically via UPnP Port Forwarding feature (preferred option) Must be enabled in router Sometimes remote is not allowed due to security risks, or because the router is not capable of enabling this kind of
remote access setup.
In general, there are two types of remote access to your system - each has its advantages:
Access to cameras and other devices through the NVR, and
Access to the NVR and other devices directly (recommended for Solstice system).
Remote access to devices through the NVR Direct remote access to devices
Advantages:
Live video to client is re-streamed through NVR:
high performance demand = high cost
Simplied client design, number of clients limited by NVR
Less channels per NVR
Easier router setup
Advantages:
Live view directly from device:
less powerful NVR hardware needed = lower cost
Number of clients limited by camera
UPnP Port Forwarding enabled router recommended
Direct access to camera conguration settings
69SLS-ENVR Series NVR V2.1 User Manual
SECTION 4: SYSTEM / REMOTE ACCESS
4.1 Router setup guidelines
To enable the NVR to communicate with networks beyond a router, the router must be congured for Port Forwarding. For manual router setup:
After selecting this method and conrmation, please “Download static tunnels info“ . This link contains information about
the port forwarding setup you need to apply to your router.
Several ports required to congure on a router, so the router must have enough entries available in a Port Forwarding table.
Router must support Network Address Port Translation (NAPT). I.E., they must be able to translate not only IP addresses, but
also ports X:Y. For example: 95.47.107.164:60000 (WAN) -> 192.168.10.123:80
NOTE
Usually the SLS-ENVR will automatically determine whether the client is connecting locally or remotely and uses proper addressing. Sometimes (ie. with VPN access) it may be dicult to detect automatically. Use the “Force local / remote access“ option on login dialog screen.
4.2 NVR setup guidelines
The SLS-ENVR can be congured to connect to external networks even when it is located on a LAN separated from other networks by a router. Both the NVR and router must be congured to enable this feature. To congure the NVR for remote access, go to Settings - Conguration - Remote Access
In the menu Settings - Remote access menu, two options are provided:
Automatic setting of the router - If your router supports control via UPnP protocol 4, the SLS-ENVR can set up the remote
access automatically. With this option, the SLS-ENVR makes the cameras accessible dynamically when viewing live video using the SLS-ENVR.
70
SECTION 4: SYSTEM / REMOTE ACCESS
Manual setting of the router - If your router does not have UPnP protocol support, it is necessary to make access to the
device from the Internet using static settings.
In the Preferred web port eld, enter the number of the port through which the SLS-ENVR will be visible from the external network. If your router has an external address, e.g. 194.114.132.12, the Preferred Web Port shall be set at 1024, then for access from the external network, enter the address http://194.114.132.12:1024 in the browser. The web port must be inside the range stated in the Port range elds.
If you use Manual router settings, the SLS-ENVR generates a table containing the values for manual entry into the web interface of the router. The table can be listed using the Download static tunnel information button.
71SLS-ENVR Series NVR V2.1 User Manual
SECTION 4: SYSTEM / REMOTE ACCESS
Example of a listing of static tunnels
In the window shown above, columns are dened as follows:
Device - device (camera) name, for which it is necessary to create a translated record.
IP address - address of the target device to which the data should be sent in combination with the IP address that denes the
destination of the data. On routers, this is often marked Target port or To port.
Protocol - IP family protocol to be used. On the routers, it is often marked Protocol.
Gateway port - port on the external side of the router, to which data from outside should be sent. This is a port in a given
range, which is often marked on the router as the Source port or From port.
Timestamp - time of last change of the settings. Check the SLS-ENVR network settings frequently. If a camera is added or
the network settings or a camera are changed, the router must be setup to reect the table containing the latest data.
From the external network, the device is accessible at the address in the format public-address:port. The data from this table must be entered in the settings Port Forwarding or NAT in the router.

APPENDIX A: STATUS MONITOR DEFINITIONS
APPENDIX A Status Monitor Denitions
The SLS-ENVR can display the current values of several variables in the system, cameras and sensors (e.g. fps, free disk space or temperature) in the individual cells. For this purpose, status monitors for the SLS-ENVR can be dened. These monitors can then be added to the view just like the live picture from the camera. You can create a status monitor in several ways:
In the device group panel, switch from the current device tree to Status Monitors. Here, you can create, rename and delete
status monitors.
Click the Add icon to add a new status monitor to an empty cell in the view just like the camera. Switch to the device tree you want to use. By dragging and dropping the icons of the devices (from the device tree or
Camera List Panel) above the cell containing the status monitor, you create a monitor for the device variables.
You also create the status monitor by dragging and dropping the values from the device tree into a new cell. The status
monitor can contain the variables of the SLS-ENVR and other devices, mainly cameras. The SLS-ENVR monitors the following variables:
