Introduction
More and more devices such as flat screen TVs and
computers are equipped with digital audio outputs
for connection to hi-fi systems. Digital transmission
of audio signals has many benefits. Typical applications are:
Q Prevention of Ground Loops When connecting
digital devices such as computers, flat screen
TV sets or satellite receivers to analogue hi-fi
systems ground loops may occur. Ground
loops cause hum, noise and interference with
the audio signal, thus significantly reducing
listening quality. By using optical-digital con
nections to connect audio sources to ampli fiers, ground loops can be efficiently avoided
(due to the galvanic separation that comes
with such connections). For further in-depth
information about ground loops see http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_loop_(electricity).
Q Connecting Digital Devices to Analogue
Hi-Fi Systems
There are diverse reasons to connect a device
that features both digital and analogue outputs
to an analogue system through its digital output.
Many mobile audio devices offer bad sound
quality at their analogue output, however
some do feature an optical-digital output. The
audio systems of computers are usually inside
the computer‘s housing and easily prey to
interference that can cause noise.
Q The applications are diverse and many, and so
we are always happy to know, how you are
using the Solisto.DAC-4all.
Sadly, normal hi-fi systems feature no such inputs.
Then again there are devices that feature digital outputs only, such as many flat screen TVs.
In all of these cases the Solisto.DAC-4all helps by
adding an optical-digital input to your hi-fi system
or any other kind of analogue amplifier). The Solisto.
DAC-4all should be placed as close to your hi-fi system as possible. Another advantage is the stylish,
high-quality aluminium housing with a blue light at
the front indicating an audio signal is present, thus it
is not necessary to hide it.
Please note that the Solisto.DAC-4all cannot
convert signals such as Dolby Digital, AC3, DTS,
5.1 etc. In such cases, the device – e.g. a flat screen
TV – needs to be switched to a normal stereo signal.
