AMC 6030
AN IN-CEILING VERSION OF SNELL’S MOST SUCCESSFUL LCR To achieve the performance capabilities of a freestanding monitor, the flush-mount design used in the AMC 6030 overcomes three major factors that limited in-ceiling speaker performance. First, to insure predictable response, regardless of placement or construction type, the dual 5 1/4-inch woofers and low resonance tweeter are placed inside a sealed, aluminum enclosure, which defines bass response, just like a conventional loudspeaker’s enclosure, and reduces sound transfer through the ceiling cavity to other rooms. Second, specific materials are used to control resonance. The drivers are mounted to a well-braced and damped aluminum baffle, to enhance bass/midrange clarity and deaden wall resonance. The baffle is then welded to the well-damped, heavy gauge aluminum enclosure. Third, since flush mount speakers fail to produce a proper soundstage, the driver plane steers energy from above the ceiling line toward the listening area, at a 45-degree angle. The adjacent surfaces are lined with sound deadening materials to prevent cabinet reflections from causing distortion. The result is open and clear sound that appears to be coming from the front instead of overhead. These attributes combine for a music or theater experience unheard of from an in-ceiling speaker. Designed by Snell’s chief engineer Joe D’Appolito, the AMC 6030 shares drivers and crossover from Snell’s in-room LCR7, in-wall AMC 830 and in-cabinet ICS 1030, re-engineered for the boundary and placement of a ceiling mount enclosure. The benefit is a quartet of models that can be mixed and matched to deliver the best music and theater experience possible while blending in to any décor or room condition.
