3. ENVIRONMENTAL CARE

3.1 Our environmental care

Pursuant to Directives 2002/95/EC, 2002/96/EC, 2003/108/EC, relating to the reduction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic appliances, as well as to the disposal of refuse, the crossed out bin symbol on the appliance indicates that the product, at the end of its useful life, must be collected separately from other refuse. Therefore, the user must consign the product that has reached the end of its working life to the appropriate selective collection centres for electrical and electronic refuse, or deliver it back to the retailer when purchasing an equivalent product, on a one for one basis. Adequate selective collection for the subsequent forwarding of the decommissioned product to recycling, treatment and ecologically compatible disposal contributes to avoiding possible negative effects on the environment and on health and promotes the recycling of the materials of which the appliance consists. The illicit disposal of the product by the user results in the application of administrative sanctions.
The product does not contain substances in quantities sufficient to be considered hazardous to health and the environment, in accordance with current European directives.

3.2 Your environmental care

Our product's packaging is made of non-polluting materials, therefore compatible with the environment and recyclable. Please help by disposing of the packaging correctly. Find the addresses of collection, recycling and disposal centres from your retailer or from the competent local organisations.
Do not discard the packaging or any part of it, or leave it unattended. It can constitute a suffocation hazard for children, especially the plastic bags.
Your old appliance also needs to be disposed of correctly. Important: hand over your appliance to the local agency authorised for the collection of household appliances no longer in use. Correct disposal enables intelligent recovery of valuable materials. Before disposing of your appliance, it is necessary to cut the connecting cable to the power grid, removing it along with the plug.

5. BEFORE FIRST USE

Before cooking for the first time, all labels and protective films applied to the outside of the appliance must be removed and the cooking surface subsequently cleaned. Then switch on the plate on maximum for at least 5 minutes. This treatment is necessary in order to get rid of the "new smell" and to make evaporate any humidity that may have accumulated during the manufacturing process. To switch on the plate, follow the instructions provided in paragraph “6 Description of controls”.

6. DESCRIPTION OF CONTROLS

THERMOSTAT KNOB
The cooking temperature is selected by turning the knob clockwise to the required setting, between 50°C and 400°C.
THERMOSTAT LIGHT
The light comes on to indicate that the toaster is heating up. When it goes out, the preset heating temperature has been reached. When the light flashes, the temperature on the plate is steady.
ON-OFF BUTTON
This button is used to switch the appliance on and off. The plate temperature is adjusted by turning the thermostat knob to the required temperature.
Important:
The plate does not heat when the thermostat knob is in position 0, even if the appliance is set to position ON (1).
Important:
Check the fat drip tray during and after cooking. Empty it if necessary and reposition it as described in chapter “7.6 Cleaning the fat drip tray”.

Instructions for the user

7. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Before performing any operations requiring access to powered parts, switch off the power supply to the appliance.
Never steam clean the appliance.
Do not immerse the product in water to clean it.

7.1 Cleaning stainless steel

To keep stainless steel in good condition it should be cleaned each time the plate is used. Let it cool first.

7.2 Ordinary daily cleaning

To clean and preserve the stainless steel surfaces, always use only specific products that do not contain abrasives or chlorine-based acids. How to use: pour the product onto a damp cloth and wipe the surface, rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth or a microfibre cloth.

7.3 Food stains or residues

Do not use metallic sponges or sharp scrapers: they will damage the surface. Use normal non-abrasive products and a wooden or plastic tool if necessary. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth or a microfibre cloth.

7.4 Cleaning the glass ceramic hot plate

The glass ceramic hot plate must be cleaned regularly, if possible after every use.
Remove any burnt residues after cooking with the scraper provided; rinse with water and dry thoroughly with a clean cloth. Regular use of the scraper considerably reduces the need for chemical detergents for the daily cleaning of the plate. Never use abrasive or corrosive detergents (e.g. powder products, oven sprays, spot-removers and wire sponges).
Changes in colour do not affect the functioning and stability of the glass ceramic. These are not alterations to the material of the cooking surface but just residues which have not been removed and have then carbonised.
Shiny surfaces can form due to the use of unsuitable detergents. These are difficult to remove with standard cleaning products. It may be necessary to repeat the cleaning process several times. Using aggressive detergents may lead to the formation of stains.

Instructions for the user

7.5 Weekly cleaning

Clean and maintain the hot plate once a week using a standard glass ceramic cleaning product. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions. The silicon in these products creates a protective, water-repellent membrane which also resists dirt. All marks stay on the membrane and can therefore be easily removed. After cleaning, dry the surface with a clean cloth. Make sure that there is no detergent left on the cooking surface as it will undergo an aggressive reaction when heated up and could modify the structure of the cooking surface.

7.6 Cleaning the fat drip tray

Under the plate, at the front, there is a steel tray for collecting the grease that comes out of the food as it is heated and drains through the hole “A”. Before switching on the appliance, it is advisable to put a little water in the tray to make it easier to clean. The tray can be completely removed by sliding it off its guides. It is also dishwasher safe. Once the tray has been cleaned, return it to position.

7.7 Adjusting the clutch

Over time the clutch mechanism designed to protect the appliance against rapid or accidental closure may loosen. In that event, simply tighten the clutch located on the back of the
appliance using an Allen key
On models with dual clutch the adjustment must be made on both sides to avoid unbalancing the appliance.
