INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISPOSAL – OUR ENVIRONMENTAL CARE
Non-polluting materials are used in the packaging of our fridge freezers to ensure that they are environmentally friendly and recyclable. Please help by disposing of the packing correctly. Ask your supplier or the relevant organisations in your area for the addresses of collection, recycling and disposal centres. Do not throw the packing or any part of it away. It can present a risk of suffocation for children, especially in the case of plastic bags.
Your old appliance also needs to be disposed of correctly. Important: hand over your appliance to the local agency authorised for the collection of electrical appliances no longer in use. Proper disposal will enable valuable materials to be recovered. Refrigeration appliances contain gases that can be harmful to the environment, so you need to ensure that the tubes in the coolant loop are not damaged before the competent organisation takes the appliance away.
Before disposing of your fridge it is important to remove doors and leave shelves in position as for use, to ensure that children cannot accidentally become trapped inside during play. The power grid connection cable must also be removed and disposed of separately together with the plug.
THIS APPLIANCE IS IDENTIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH EUROPEAN DIRECTIVE 2002/96/EC ON WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (WEEE). THIS GUIDELINE IS THE FRAME OF A EUROPEAN-WIDE VALIDITY OF RETURN AND RECYCLING ON WASTE ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT.

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Keep the instruction booklet in a safe place as it contains important instructions which must be followed when installing, using and maintaining the fridge freezer. The manual must be kept so that it can be handed over to any future owners of the appliance. The manufacturer cannot be held liable if the following notices are not respected:
- The appliance should always be transported in a vertical position.
- Do not start up an appliance which appears incomplete or damaged: if in doubt, consult the supplier.
- If the appliance has been exposed to the cold (to a temperature below +12°C) wait for two hours before connecting it to the electricity supply.
- The appliance must not be connected to the electricity supply until all the transport and packaging coverings have been removed.
- The appliance must be installed and connected to the power grid fully in accordance with the instructions in the manual. The electrical connection conditions must match the data provided on the identification plate located at the bottom left inside the fridge compartment. The electrical safety of the appliance is only guaranteed if the electrical equipment is properly earthed.
- Do not use single or multiple adaptors or extension cables.
- Disconnection from the electricity supply must be possible either by pulling out the plug or via a bipolar circuit breaker located upline of the plug socket.
- Do not allow the rear panel of the appliance to push against the plug of the electrical cable.
- Do not place any heavy objects such as refrigeration systems, furniture or other household appliances near the appliance, to avoid them crushing or damaging the electrical cable.
- Ensure that repairs and maintenance are carried out by authorised technicians from Smeg's technical support service only. Always disconnect the appliance from the power grid in the event of a breakdown, maintenance, when replacing the light bulb or during cleaning. Never use electrical equipment or steam cleaners for defrosting. Do not remove frost or ice using sharp objects, as these
may cause irreparable damage to the walls of the fridge freezer.
- If the appliance has been disconnected (to be cleaned or moved, etc.) it can switched on again after 15 minutes.
- Do not attempt to move the fridge freezer by pulling on the door or the handle.
- Keep alcoholic liquids with a high alcohol content hermetically sealed and exclusively vertically. Do not keep liquids in tins or glass containers in the freezer compartment, especially carbonated drinks. Do not keep products containing gases, flammable propellants or explosive substances in the freezer: danger of explosion!
- The appliance must be used only to freeze and to store food products.
- Electrical appliances (e.g. ice cream machines or blenders) may not be used inside the appliance.
- Do not obstruct or cover the air circulation pipes in any way as these are required for the proper operation of the fridge freezer.
- Do not touch frozen products removed straight from the freezer or put them in your mouth. There is a risk of burns due to the ultra-low temperatures.
- Protect the internal surfaces and plastic parts of the appliance from fats, acids and sauces.
- Do not consume food with an abnormal appearance or smell.
- Do not place operating electrical devices (microwave ovens, hair driers, irons, kettles or other electrical devices) on top of the appliance: this could cause the plastic parts to catch fire.
- This appliance is not intended for the use of people (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities, or who lack experience and knowledge of such appliances, unless they are supervised or instructed in the use of the appliance by another person who is responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Do not climb or sit on the appliance, not to lean against or hang from the doors of the appliance, and do not allow children to do so.
- Install the product and ensure that it is level on a floor that is capable of bearing its weight and in a suitable environment for its size and use.

Safety instructions
- Do not place dishes containing liquids on the top part of the appliance and do not to leave vases of flowers or other liquid containers on the appliance.
- Do not leave the doors of the appliance open.
- The product must be moved and installed by two or more people.
- The appliance must not rest on heating, gas or water pipes, or on any other electrical appliance.
- Do not damage the fridge freezer coolant loop tubes.
- Do not ingest the (non-toxic) liquid in the coolant accumulators (if there are any).
If there is a power cut, open the door(s) as little as possible. Frozen food which has been partially or completely defrosted must not be refrozen.
Attention:
the fridge freezer contains a small quantity of isobutane (R600a), a CFC-free gas refrigerant. During the fridge transport, installation, cleaning and repair phases, pay attention to avoiding damage to any part of the coolant loop in order to prevent a gas leak. In the event of damage, avoid naked flames and sparks, do not switch on electrical or lighting appliances, and ventilate the area where the appliance is located.

2. TRANSPORT

Attention: THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO THE APPLIANCE CAUSED BY FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE TRANSPORT INSTRUCTIONS.
- The appliance should always be transported in a vertical position!
- During transport, the appliance must be protected against atmospheric agents (rain, snow, humidity).
- In the transport vehicle, the appliance must be secured solidly and in a correct position, to avoid it sliding or being knocked.
- If the appliance has not been transported in a vertical position, it cannot be connected to the electricity supply for at least 4 hours. Otherwise, the compressor of the appliance could get damaged.

3. INTENDED USE OF THE FRIDGE

This is a combined appliance with two compartments (fridge + freezer): The fridge compartment is intended for storing fresh foods; the freezer compartment is intended for freezing and long-term storage of foods.
Attention: THE MANUFACTURER GUARANTEES RELIABLE OPERATION OF THE FRIDGE FREEZER WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS BETWEEN +16 AND +32 DEGREES CELSIUS AND THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF THE AIR IS NO GREATER THAN 70 PERCENT.
The appliance has not been designed and manufactured for professional use. The fridge freezer has undergone the necessary leakage tests for the coolant loop and meets the safety requirements applicable to electrical appliances.
Attention: the manufacturer cannot be held liable for any personal injury or property damage caused by failure to observe the above requirements or by tampering with any part of the appliance or using non-original spare parts.

4. INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION

4.1 Choice of location

Always locate the fridge freezer in a dry, sufficiently ventilated area. Ensure that it is not directly exposed to the sun's rays and do not locate it outside (for example: an unheated room or a balcony).
Do not cover the ventilation slots on the upper part: good air circulation must be maintained inside the appliance. There must be a distance of at least 10 cm between the upper part of the body of the appliance and any furniture unit placed above it (Fig. 1). Do not locate the fridge freezer near a heat source. If this is unavoidable, in order to prevent the proper operation of the product from being compromised, a suitable insulation board must be used. Otherwise, locate the appliance at least 3 cm away from electrical or gas cookers and at least 30 cm away from combustion heaters or radiators. If this requirement is not observed the appliance will consume more electricity and its compressor may overheat. If the appliance in positioned in a corner, a space of at least 1 cm must be left between the body of the appliance and the wall, so that the door of the freezer compartment (1) can be opened enough to allow the freezer drawer (2) to be pulled out (see Fig. 1). The appliance must be placed on a flat surface and must not be in contact with the wall. Depending on the climate class to which it belongs (indicated on the identification plate inside the fridge), the appliance can be used in various temperature conditions:
Class Room temperature
SN (Subnormal) from + 10°C to + 32°C
N (Normal) from + 16°C to + 32°C
ST (Subtropical) from + 18°C to + 38°C
T (Tropical) from + 18°C to + 43°C
Take care when installing the appliance on parquet or linoleum to avoid scratching or otherwise damaging the floor. If necessary, when positioning the fridge freezer, use pieces of wood or carpet to slide it to the appropriate point for connection to the power grid.

4.2 Preparing the appliance for use

It is recommended to prepare the appliance for use with the help of another person.
- Remove the packaging.
- Lift up the appliance in order to remove the polystyrene base.
- Remove the adhesive tape.
- Remove all the systems for holding the shelves in place (Fig. 2 pos. 2). Remove all the adhesives from the object holder shelves: they are only necessary for the transport of the appliance.
- NOTE: When the fridge compartment door is opened a small red-coloured packing component will fall out: THIS IS ONLY NECESSARY FOR TRANSPORT.
- Dispose of the packaging materials appropriately.
- To ensure that the condenser cools properly, the top part of the fridge freezer must not be located too close to the wall. To avoid this, the product is equipped with two plastic spacers (Fig. 2 pos. 1) which must be mounted on the upper part of the condenser at the back of the appliance as shown in figure 2.

4.3 Positioning and levelling the appliance

When positioning the product, ensure that it does not damage the supply cable. Two rollers are provided on the base of the product at the back (Fig. 3) to make it more stable and easier
to move, and therefore to make it possible to position it properly. However, you are advised to be very careful when moving the product so that the sliding motion does not damage the floor (e.g. if the fridge freezer is placed on a parquet floor). Place the fridge freezer on a stable, level base. The fridge freezer is equipped with two adjustable feet at the front (Fig. 4) to compensate for any irregularities in the flooring. In case of necessity, adjust the height of the appliance by screwing the adjustable feet in or out (Fig. 4): turn them clockwise to raise the front part of the appliance, or turn them counter-clockwise to lower it. Leaning the appliance towards the rear part facilitates correct closing of the doors.
Fig. 3 Fig. 4
If the feet are not high enough to stabilise the fridge freezer (e.g. if the floor is very uneven), or to tilt it backwards, a shim made of a rigid material (plastic or wood) will need to be inserted underneath the feet in order to further raise the front of the appliance. A proper installation will allow the doors to close properly. A check must be made to ensure that the door seals close hermetically, especially at the corners. If they do not close properly, check to make sure that there are no product processing residues or packaging residues between the seal and the fridge freezer doors. If necessary, adjust the seals with your fingers as in figures 5 and 6.
Attention: Force should not be used in adjusting the seals. Do not tear or detach the seals from the doors.
A few days after installation, check that the initial level adjustment is still correct. Make sure that the fridge freezer is still stable and the door seals still close hermetically when it is in operation and loaded with food. If necessary, re-adjust the level and the door seals as shown below.
